This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change is becoming top threat to biodiversity and it is the fastest-growing cause of species loss in the world. The rising sea level and increased extreme weather events of climate change---fires, floods, pestilence and drought---have already caused widespread harm to biodiversity. India has continuously demonstrated its responsibility towards acknowledging the emerging threats from climate change and implementing the climate actions on the basis of the Principle of Equity and Common but Differentiated Responsibilities for improving efficiency of the economy and its engines of growth. India has been actively promoting clean energy and clean technology as well as continuing the flagship schemes on combating climate change in both adaptation and mitigation fronts. In conformity with the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC), the State of Manipur has also prepared its own Manipur State Action Plan on Climate Change (MSAPCC) in 2013 to combat climate change and revised 2nd version was prepared in 2019 to combat climate change. The Manipur Vision Document 2030 was also released in 2019 with a view to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. India has adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog instead of the half century old Economic Planning. From the North Eastern States Manipur stood at 7th in the composite SDG Index, that is, 59 as against the All-India score of 57.

Download or read book I am HIV Positive So What written by Jayanta Kalita and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-10-25 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until December 15, 2007, Khundrakpam Pradipkumar Singh was nobody. The very next day he was known across his state as 'Mr Manipur'. Pradip's incredible story of how an HIV-positive person mended his failing health, overcame psychological trauma, fought stigma and discrimination to become an international bodybuilding champion is told in the pages of this book. Like legendary basketball player Magic Johnson, Pradip too disclosed his HIV status through the media, not giving a damn about society's shocked reaction. However, there is something unique in Pradip's story. While Johnson called it quits after being diagnosed with HIV, Pradip remained undaunted in the face of all odds. He was determined to excel in his chosen field despite warnings from doctors and adverse comments from society. And he went on to win several medals and titles, defeating the virus in his body. Pradip's extraordinary courage and sheer determination caught everyone by surprise. He became a role model for people living with HIV in India and other parts of the globe. He was made Brand Ambassador for HIV/AIDS by the Manipur State AIDS Control Society and was roped in by the India chapter of a global non-profit to lead a pan-India HIV awareness campaign from Delhi. Pradip also took up the cudgels to sensitise people to the ill-effects of drug abuse, to which Manipur is the biggest victim in Northeast India. Given the fact that he contracted the 'deadly virus' through sharing of needles, he sincerely appeals to youngsters to say no to drugs. Pradip has been living with HIV for more than 15 years and continues to be unbelievably strong in mind and body. A true iconoclast, Pradip never gets tired of saying: 'HIV does not kill people, it's society that kills HIV positive people.

This book was released on 2021-11-09 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People from India’s Northeast have crafted distinct as well as diverse cultural cryptograms, discernments and personality which is frequently at loggerheads with the power politics from outside the region. Thus, attention is often on the societies of the Northeast India as they putter with transforming institutions and more intensive resource consumption in the wake of modernization and development activities. This volume is an examination into questions of who exercises control, who constructs knowledge/ideas about the region and how far such discourses are people-centric. It inspects how India’s Northeast have been understood in colonial and post-colonial contexts through the contributions from research scholars and faculties from different academic spaces. These contributions are both from within the region as well as from neighbourhood. Thus, presenting a cross-dimensional gaze on social, political, economic as well as issues related to space-relation. Download or read book Cultural Constellations Place Making and Ethnicity in Eastern India c 1850 1927 written by Swarupa Gupta and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Cultural Constellations, Place-Making and Ethnicity in Eastern India, c. 1850-1927, Swarupa Gupta outlines a fresh paradigm moving beyond stereotypical representations of eastern India as a site of ethnic fragmentation. The book traces unities by exploring intersections between (1) cultural constellations; (2) place-making and (3) ethnicity. Centralising place-making, it tells the story of how people made places, mediating caste / religious / linguistic contestations. It offers new meanings of ‘region’ in Eastern Indian and global contexts by showing how an interregional arena comprising Bengal, Assam and Orissa was forged. Using historical tracts, novels, poetry and travelogues, the book argues that commonalities in Eastern India were linked to imaginings of Indian nationhood. The analysis contains interpretive strategies for mediating federalist separatisms and fragmentation in contemporary India.
