Book excerpt: Originally published in 1975, Man and Wildlife traces the evolution of man from pre-hominid ancestors, and his influence in modifying the environment and its flora and fauna as technical knowledge grew. The development of civilization allowed man to dominate the environment; its advance led to the discovery and exploitation of the world’s resources. In spite of all the discoveries of science, man’s battle with the adverse forces of wildlife remain un-won and seems likely to stay so for the foreseeable future. The book traces the beginnings of environmental consciousness in the decades preceding its publication. It examines the extent of the human devastation of the environment, which has increased with rapid expansion of the world’s human population, and the belated efforts to halt the destruction and help wildlife preservation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sky Man (1910) is a novel by Henry Kitchell Webster. Written at the height of Webster’s career as a popular author of magazine serials, The Sky Man is a story of invention, mystery, and murder. Inspired by recent advances in human aviation, Webster crafted a thrilling work of science fiction that continues to entertain and astound over a century after it appeared in print. “For many hours—Cayley was too much of a god today to bother with the exact number of them—he had been flying slowly northward down a mild southerly breeze. Hundreds of feet below him was the dazzling, terrible expanse of the polar ice pack which shrouds the northern limits of the Arctic Ocean in its impenetrable veil of mystery.” Looking on the world below, Philip Cayley entertains thoughts he has never had before. Is he human, or something greater? What limits stand before him now that he has mastered the sky? A seasoned veteran of the United States army, Cayley is an aviator and self-taught inventor who struggled for years to perfect human flight. Now equipped with an aerodynamic wingsuit, he soars above the Arctic on a research mission. Crossing the expanse of ice, he sees a man below in similar leather clothing. Behind him, a group of men in walrus skin jackets begins to gain ground. From the safety of the sky, Cayley watches in horror as the man in the lead is struck by a deadly dart, tumbling down an immeasurable crevasse. Careful to avoid discovery, Cayley circles back to his ship, entirely unprepared for what lies ahead. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Henry Kitchell Webster’s The Sky Man is a classic of American literature reimagined for modern readers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does the Bible teach about sexual relationships between people of the same sex? Does true love require that we accept all forms of sexual expression? No, real love does not rejoice in sin, but rejoices in the truth. In the Bible, God reveals that He created gender, sex, and marriage, and we may not alter them at our will. Through His laws and works in history, God has made it clear that homosexual practices violate His holy purposes for mankind. The New Testament reaffirms God’s created order and moral laws. It too warns that homosexual practice, like any other sin that we cherish, is the pathway to God’s judgment. However, the Lord Jesus Christ saves sinners by His Spirit and gives them a new identity, forgiveness, life, and power to live according to His commandments. This is the message that all people need to hear: God’s laws have not changed, but God’s grace offers hope to sinners through Jesus Christ. Table of Contents: 1. Introduction 2. Foundations: Love, Authority, and Sexuality 3. Directions: God’s Word to Ancient Israel about Homosexuality 4. Expectations: The Power of Sin and the Power of Christ 5. Conclusions: Grace and Truth

Book God did not create Man Man Created God

Download or read book God did not create Man Man Created God written by Sudhansu S. Tunga and published by Blue Rose Publishers. This book was released on 2023-10-11 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is our common belief – and conviction for most people – that God created this universe and all that it possesses, including mankind. This knowledge is obtained from the religious literature of most religions which is hardly five thousand years old. But the universe was born 13.8 billion years earlier and man has appeared on earth just two hundred thousand years ago. At that time there was no God. Religious beliefs stand upon man’s ignorance and superstitions, not on any sound scientific examination, ascribing that it is man who has created God in his fancy and not the other way round. Therefore, the concept of God and religion should be forsaken for the betterment of all.The book deals with this subject in an objective and rational way, analyzing all the relevant literatureincluding religious books, history, archaeology, as also physical sciences and other relevant subjects.

Book Agents Transmissible from Simians to Man

Download or read book Agents Transmissible from Simians to Man written by Manfred Brack and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contacts between man and nonhuman primates enable the transmission of mic roorganisms from one species to the other. Such contact may occur at quite differ ent levels: man and nonhuman primates may share the same ecosystem including the presence of vectors in the countries of origins of monkeys and apes; the animals are captured to be sold or used for food; field researchers have to stay near the ani mals in the wild; an uncontrolled human population gets close enough to almost touch the animals in zoological gardens around the world; pet owners establish bodily contact and finally researchers doing surgery or necropsies are exposed to an increased number of pathogens liberated from the organs and body fluids. Usually monkeys and apes are more threatened with catching the microorgan isms indigenous to man than vice versa, but nevertheless outbreaks of true zoonoses with nonhuman primates as the source of infection have occurred. Also the retrans mission of originally human pathogens via nonhuman primates to man may pose a considerable risk to human health. Unfortunately the information on the different agents transmissible between man and his relatives is too disseminated for practical use, as it involves quite differ ent scientific disciplines such as virology, bacteriology, parasitology, primatology, laboratory animal science etc. It seemed therefore necessary to compile the current knowledge concerning this topic in a single publication. Human infections of simian origin may be caused by several viruses, bacteria, fungi or endoparasites. Ectoparasites, in comparison, are of little importance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Michael Jeremiah and his family are professing Christians fulfilling their life dreams. As good Bible students they know that: Some 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ was crucified, buried, and on the third day rose from the dead. He died with a mortal body and was resurrected with an immortal body. Over 500 persons witnessed Him in His resurrected form. After 40 days He gathered His Apostles, and gave orders for their mission on the earth. After He had spoken He was lifted up, as the Apostles watched, a cloud received Him out of their sight as he ascended into Heaven. Two angels standing beside the Apostles said, "This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into Heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into Heaven." Other scriptures tell us that some day He will return to the earth. But sometime prior to this, Christ will descend from Heaven with a shout and the trumpet of God to call all true Christians to be caught up in the clouds to meet Him in the air and be taken to Heaven. At the moment of this event, often called the Rapture, Michael and his family look forward to being changed from mortal to immortal bodies and to dwell with God in Heaven forever. THEIR LIVES ARE DISRUPTED by 9/11 and the War on Terror Michael Jeremiah, the Supreme Council and his family are thrust into positions of power in order to save the teetering United States from economic, social and moral collapse. Michael relies on his family ties, placing many of them in key leadership positions. Dr. Tandatina Allio, Michael's wife (a world renown brain surgeon), is his second in command. His father, Vice Admiral John is Director of NSA; his grandfather, Admiral Peter, is Director of Intelligence; his brother Thomas is Secretary General of the UN; and his sister Rebecca is Director of the Red Cross. All the while, Michael Jeremiah and his family move through life with the understanding that the Rapture is near. But, we are getting ahead of ourselves. Let's go back to the beginning of this story. AMERICA IS IN CRISIS. This was the newspaper headline. "America in Crisis". Polls show Americans are fearful of both the present and the future. There seems to be no hope. Americans want - demand that they be rescued, that our nation's many problems be solved. Rescued from what? Solve what problems? A respected panel published a white paper on the subject. They reported: "It is near the end of the George W. Bush administration. The country is being torn apart over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. At least, at times, it appears to be President Bush's private war. He never asked Congress for a Declaration of War, nor asked the Nation to be directly involved, as it was during World War II. Our military's hands tied by politics. The Nation is in chaos with almost everyone demanding their rights, their freedom to do whatever they wish. Terrorists have attacked again in four cities: more than 30,000 killed. Vicious gangs and drug pushers demand their rights: our police are handcuffed. Purveyors of filth shout freedom of speech; pornography is called art; Christians and Jews are muzzled. Our founding fathers knew that everything has limits and boundaries. The Judeo-Christian ethic provided the moral foundation to go with our rights and freedoms and moral boundaries were set. But now, these moral boundaries are absent and freedoms are turning to license, edging closer and closer to anarchy. Our people do not feel safe sending their children to school, leaving their homes. Fear is everywhere; faith in government is near zero. The People pray for a man a superman a bold knight, to rescue them and the nation." MICHAEL JEREMIAH and the Supreme Council OFFER HOPE During times of crisis, l
