Download or read book Malo s Amazing Adventures written by Washington M. Osiro and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2014-12-22 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discovering Kwanzaa and Beyond with Friends is the 2nd book in the Malo's Amazing Adventures! series. It is dedicated to Malo's 4th Grade Class of 2012 at Wicklund Elementary School and to Kylie Johnson and the students of Woodside Parents Nursery School Class of 2013. Both classes were gracious enough to invite me to their respective class to speak about Kwanzaa. The book is also dedicated to all the other inquisitive little souls who are not afraid to ask the questions: How? What? When? Who? Where? and the all-important Why? While preparing to speak to the two classes, Malo's father discovers that Kwanzaa is more than a cultural celebration. It embodies principles or "nguzo" that are universal, enhance personal growth and development and promote good citizenship. In the process, he discovers and shares the richness of Kwanzaa and its appeal beyond the traditional and mainly African-American audience. Maybe you don't speak or understand a foreign language such as Kiswahili. Maybe you have difficulties pronouncing foreign words such as "eng-oo-zoo saba" or "vitu saba" i.e. the seven principles and symbols of Kwanzaa - all Swahili words. Don't let that prevent you from learning about the richness and beauty of celebrations such as Kwanzaa and their relevance to everyday life. Read on to discover the joy of learning a different language or experiencing a different culture.

Download or read book The Arguments of Aquinas written by J.J. MacIntosh and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-04-07 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Arguments of Aquinas is intended for readers with philosophical interests, who may not be specialists in medieval philosophy. Some think that a medieval saint must be, as such, wrong, dated, and boring; others feel that a saint, any saint, must be right, relevant, and inspirational. Both groups are likely to misread Aquinas, if indeed they read him at all. The works of great philosophers are products of their times, but that does not lessen their value for us. We profit by reading the works of St Thomas in the same interested but critical way that we read the works of our contemporaries. MacIntosh does not hesitated to compare Thomas's arguments with those of later philosophers as well as with those of his contemporaries and earlier philosophers. He chooses topics from a variety of still interesting problem areas: the existence and attributes of God, including God's foreknowledge and human free will, causality and the origin of the universe, time and necessity, human souls, angels, and the problem of evil. Additionally, the volume looks at his views on honesty and lying, and on human sexuality, on which he is, as ever, philosophically interesting whether or not we accept his conclusions.
Download or read book Comrade Papa written by Gauz' and published by Biblioasis. This book was released on 2024-10-08 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Booker-nominated satirist GauZ’ returns with a panoramic journey into the colonization of the African interior. Mourning the recent deaths of his parents, a young white man in nineteenth-century France joins a colonial expedition attempting to establish trading routes on the Ivory Coast and finds himself caught between factions who disagree on everything—except their shared loathing of the British. A century later, a young Black boy born in Amsterdam gives his account, complete with youthful malapropisms, of his own voyage to the Ivory Coast, and his upbringing by his father, Comrade Papa, who teaches him to always fight "the yolk of capitalism." In exuberant, ingenious prose, GauZ' superimposes their intertwined stories, looking across centuries and continents to reveal the long arc of African colonization.
Download or read book Adventures on the Wine Route written by Kermit Lynch and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The newly designed twenty-fifth anniversary edition of the classic volume, brought up-to-date "Wine is, above all, about pleasure. Those who make it ponderous make it dull. If you keep an open mind and take each wine on its own terms, there is a world of magic to discover." So wrote the renowned wine expert Kermit Lynch in the introduction to Adventures on the Wine Route, his ultimate tour of France, especially its wine cellars. The "magic" of wine is Lynch's subject as he takes the reader on a singular journey through the Loire, Bordeaux, the Languedoc, Provence, Northern and Southern Rhone, and Burgundy. In Adventures on the Wine Route, the wine lover will find wisdom without a trace of pretension and hype. As Victor Hazen wrote, "In Kermit Lynch's small, true, delightful book there is more understanding about what wine really is than in everything else I have read." Praise for Lynch and for Adventures on the Wine Route has not ceased since the book's initial publication a quarter century ago. In 2007, The New York Times called it "one of the finest American books on wine." And in June 2012, The Wall Street Journal proclaimed it "the best book on the wine business." Full of vivid portraits of French vintners, memorable evocations of the French countryside, and, of course, vibrant descriptions of French wines, this new edition of Adventures on the Wine Route updates a modern classic for our times"--

Download or read book Of Stones and Man written by Jean Kerisel and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-09-16 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of Stones and Man explores the many errors of judgement made by civilizations both ancient and modern across the world. Arrogance and a penchant for excess drove mankind to build ever greater and more ambitious edifices. The author analyzes these works from a scientific and historically-sensitive perspective, highlighting the hydro-geological background to repeated infamous disasters, from the faults inherent in the Sphinx to the leaning Tower of Pisa. Beautifully illustrated throughout, Of Stones and Man is a testament to the impermanence of our surroundings. It questions how the earth and its resources have borne the cumulative burden placed upon it over the ages by one civilization after another, and how, in turn, the earth has exacted its inevitable revenge on the great constructions of our ancestors. Of Stones and Man is the final work of Jean Kerisel (1908-2005) who served as President of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering from 1973 to 1977, and who worked worldwide as a consultant on many ambitious engineering projects. Driven by his great passion for Ancient Builders and Egyptology, Kerisel here extends his professional knowledge into the realms of historical architecture.
