Book excerpt: This book attempts to equip the reader with a holistic and accessible account of Islam and evolution. It guides the reader through the different variables that have played a part in the ongoing dialogue between Muslim creationists and evolutionists. This work views the discussion through the lens of al-Ghazālī (1058-1111), a widely-known and well-respected Islamic intellectual from the medieval period. By understanding al-Ghazālī as an Ash’arite theologian, a particular strand of Sunni theology, his metaphysical and hermeneutic ideas are taken to explore if and how much Neo-Darwinian evolution can be accepted. It is shown that his ideas can be used to reach an alignment between Islam and Neo-Darwinian evolution. This book offers a detailed examination that seeks to offer clarity if not agreement in the midst of an intense intellectual conflict and polarity amongst Muslims. As such, it will be of great interest to scholars of Science and Religion, Theology, Philosophy of Religion, Islamic Studies, and Religious Studies more generally. *Winner of the International Society for Science & Religion (ISSR) book prize 2022 (academic category)*

Book excerpt: Sharp, lyrical poems celebrating the Black vernacular—its influence on pop culture, its necessity for familial survival, its rite in storytelling and in creating the safety found only within its intimacy “Terrific . . . illuminates life in this country in a strikingly original way.”—Ron Charles, The Washington Post NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR • The New York Public Library • Tordotcom Definition of finna, created by the author: fin·na /ˈfinə/ contraction: (1) going to; intending to [rooted in African American Vernacular English] (2) eye dialect spelling of “fixing to” (3) Black possibility; Black futurity; Blackness as tomorrow These poems consider the brevity and disposability of Black lives and other oppressed people in our current era of emboldened white supremacy, and the use of the Black vernacular in America’s vast reserve of racial and gendered epithets. Finna explores the erasure of peoples in the American narrative; asks how gendered language can provoke violence; and finally, how the Black vernacular, expands our notions of possibility, giving us a new language of hope: nothing about our people is romantic & it shouldn’t be. our people deserve poetry without meter. we deserve our own jagged rhythm & our own uneven walk towards sun. you make happening happen. we happen to love. this is our greatest action.

Book Malik s Tribe The Journal Of Truth

Download or read book Malik s Tribe The Journal Of Truth written by Wael Bolbol and published by Wael Bolbol. This book was released on 2023-06-18 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It seems that the Satanists have won, doesn't it? Everything has been turned upside down. The world is frolicking within the death throes of the new age. It's an era of depravity, insolence, and evaporated dreams that have turned into nightmares. The Godless gorge themselves on an unwary comatose public, infatuated with reckless and vain desires, the war has begun. The 7 realms have been infiltrated by demonic generals and Satanic soldiers. All facets of life have been confiscated. Economies, traditions, entertainment, and teaching institutions have been taken over and mutated into something sinister and without mercy. Cities that were once the pearls of the old world have become nothing but ruins of smoke, poverty, and dilapidated infrastructures. Nothing was the same after Babylonia the Great waged a nuclear war on it's rivals.....and even before the Greatest War Waged, the world showed signs of madness and confusion. The GWW was mentioned by the religious scholars of the old world, Armageddon or Malhama Al Kubra, was prophesied by messengers of GOD in periods of time forgotten and lost. Only a few remained vigilant and faithful towards GOD, the balance of the world fell into the clutches of a Satanic regime determined to destroy the essential core of man. Within these perilous times the emergence of the Anti-Christ took center stage. The One-Eyed Chief deceiver became the prominent influencer for the detrimentally lost. The engine of evil. The demonic forces beckoned this diabolical leader's arrival......and when he arrived he unleashed his baggages of debauchery and hatred towards humans. The world was in complete chaos and division..." Although, the Light of the Ineffable can never be extinguished, this is a spiritual law. The demonic insurgence couldn't anticipate the resistance that took place. The psychological nets of stupidity and vanity were supposed to suppress the citizens of the 7 realms...but somehow a band of good humans broke through the indoctrination programs of Babylonia the Great. Some said that they were led by Angels. Some rumors suggested that they were the literal moving hand of GOD. Whatever the gossip, the Satanic generals couldn't have fathomed that there would be a counter force so efficient and surgical in their executions. This is a story of perseverance and an example of the human potential when unity is the defining factor.

Book We Need New Stories

Download or read book We Need New Stories written by Nesrine Malik and published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson. This book was released on 2020-08-20 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is becoming clear that the old frames of reference are not working, that the narratives used for decades to stave off progressive causes are being exposed as falsehoods. Six myths have taken hold, ones which are at odds with our lived experience and in urgent need of revision. Has freedom of speech become a cover for promoting prejudice? Has the concept of political correctness been weaponised to avoid ceding space to those excluded from power? Does white identity politics pose an urgent danger? These are some of the questions at the centre of Nesrine Malik's radical and compelling analysis that challenges us to find new narrators whose stories can fill the void and unite us behind a shared vision.

Book Love Me as I Am

Download or read book Love Me as I Am written by Garcelle Beauvais and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2022-04-12 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Dishy, warm, and entertaining.”—Kirkus Reviews ?The beloved Black pop culture icon, entrepreneur, Hollywood actress and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star bares her life in this frank, funny, and fearless memoir about life, love and the pursuit of true happiness. Love Me As I Am is Garcelle Beauvais’s smart, inspiring, and raw memoir—an entertaining and unforgettable emotional rollercoaster ride that moves from her early childhood years in Haiti to her adolescence in Boston; from her heady days as a young model in New York—her first taste of real freedom—to Los Angeles and the many ups, downs, and then more ups, both personal and professional, she experienced in her three-decade acting career, including her massive fame as a star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Throughout her life, Beauvais has suffered from an emotional battle between her wild, rebellious nature and her desire to be a “good girl.” No matter how many cover stories she earned, “Most Beautiful” lists, or coveted roles in iconic series such as The Jamie Foxx Show and NYPD Blue, Beauvais could not cure herself of her “disease to please” or learn to put herself first. She also had to learn how to unapologetically put herself first. In Love Me As I Am, she brings together the voices of both the good girl and the rebel to deliver an unflinching examination of her successes and ongoing challenges as a mother, wife, daughter, sibling, and friend. Beauvais fearlessly talks about how she boldly embraced her sexuality in her 40s, and her determination to break free of the stereotypes that define and limit African American women in popular culture. Most importantly, she reveals how finally putting herself first led to better relationships with her three sons and even her ex-husband. Beauvais dishes too—offering juicy behind-the-scenes stories from movie sets, red carpet events, and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Love Me As I Am is an unflinching look at one woman’s extraordinary journey to create a new and more exciting life—and to become the woman she was meant to be.
