Book Making Takshila in California

Download or read book Making Takshila in California written by Ryan Baidya and published by California Takshila University Press. This book was released on 2019-02-06 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making Takshila in California is an account of my journey to make a Takshila in California. It is a tale of revealing corruption, collusion, and abuse of power by the State of California. The Bureau for Private Post Secondary Education (BPPE), and Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) of California engaged in abusive and unconstitutional activities. Takshila: One of the best performing innovative start-up institutions that trained high-tech professionals successfully. Silicon Valley and rest of the country happily employed them. Yet CTU has been bullied, threatened and subjected to injustice, prejudice, and discrimination. And the question is WHY? This WHY took us to the land where State Assembly members, Senators, the U.S. Congressman, and some media did not want to go. We questioned. We exposed wrongdoings of BPPE, DCA, California Attorney General (Kamala Harris and Xavier Becerra). We were, thus, systematically bullied, threatened, discriminated against and violated of our constitutional rights. We are not a unique situation. There are over several hundred may be near thousands of California institutions have a similar story to tell. Someone needs to ASK.

Book excerpt: In recent decades, there has been a new surge of interest in the history and legacies of the Silk Roads both within academic and public discourses. A field of Silk Roads Studies has come into its own. Consciously mirroring the temperament of its subject, the field has moved out of the narrow niches of particular disciplines to become a truly interdisciplinary endeavor. New research findings about the historical operations of the Silk Roads and interpretations of their legacies for the modern and contemporary world have broken down geographical and temporal divides that once demarcated the Silk Roads as primarily pre-modern and Old World-centered conduits of globalization. In light of these developments, the time is ripe to begin formulating a new definition of the contour of Silk Roads Studies and laying a new foundation for further work in this field. Silk Roads: From Local Realities to Global Narratives brings together leading scholars in multiple disciplines related to Silk Roads studies. It highlights the multiplicity of networks that constituted the Silk Roads, including land and maritime routes, and approaches the Silk Roads from Antiquity to China’s One Belt One Road Initiative from Afro-Eurasia to the Americas. This holistic approach to understanding ancient globalization, exchanges, transformations, and movements - and their continued relevance to the present - is in line with contemporary academic trends toward interdisciplinarity. Indeed, the Silk Roads is such an expansive topic that many approaches to its study must be included to represent accurately its many facets. The volume emphasizes exchange and transformation along the Silk Roads - moments of acculturation or hybridization that contributed to novel syncretic forms. It highlights the multiplicity of networks that constituted the Silk Roads, including land and maritime routes, and approaches to the Silk Roads from Antiquity to China’s One Belt One Road Initiative from Afro-Eurasia to the Americas.

Book The Last Matriarchs of Hastinapura Fall of the Kurus Book II

Download or read book The Last Matriarchs of Hastinapura Fall of the Kurus Book II written by Kamesh Ramakrishna and published by Leadstart Publishing Pvt Ltd. This book was released on with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Bronze Age world of 2000 B.C.E., Hastinapura is a male-governed trading outpost, in the midst of many smaller matriarchies. This novel is the untold story of Hastinapura, narrated through the voices of three women whose desires, hopes and actions drive the dramatic events of the ancient city and introduces the reader to the possibly unfamiliar world of matriarchal power and matrilineal inheritance. Shantanu, the Kuru ruler of Hastinapura, has given his word to his consort Satyavati, that her descendants will rule as Matriarchs. But decades pass without a daughter or grand-daughter being born. Instead, sons inherit, extending the customs of a caravan to create a patrilineal tradition. I have no daughter, becomes Satyavati's lifelong lament and that of Kunti, Matriarch of Bhojpura, as her city collapses. It also echoes in the heart of the blindfolded Gaandhaari, who endures countless agonizing childbirths, hoping for a daughter. But when the girl child finally comes, Gaandhaari’s own position hangs in the balance of destiny. The Last Matriarchs of Hastinapura, Book II of the Fall of the Kurus series, follows the lives of Satyavati, Gaandhaari, and Kunti, as they manoeuvre to ensure that their descendants rule the burgeoning Hastinapura Empire. When compromise fails, partition seems the only solution - Hastinapura for the Kauravas, and Indraprastha for the Pandavas. But, like other partitions before and since, this too provides no permanent solution.

Book Dharma and Ecology of Hindu Communities

Download or read book Dharma and Ecology of Hindu Communities written by Pankaj Jain and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Indic religious traditions, a number of rituals and myths exist in which the environment is revered. Despite this nature worship in India, its natural resources are under heavy pressure with its growing economy and exploding population. This has led several scholars to raise questions about the role religious communities can play in environmentalism. Does nature worship inspire Hindus to act in an environmentally conscious way? This book explores the above questions with three communities, the Swadhyaya movement, the Bishnoi, and the Bhil communities. Presenting the texts of Bishnois, their environmental history, and their contemporary activism; investigating the Swadhyaya movement from an ecological perspective; and exploring the Bhil communities and their Sacred Groves, this book applies a non-Western hermeneutical model to interpret the religious traditions of Indic communities. With a foreword by Roger S Gottlieb.
