Soon it became clear he needed major surgery that could either save his life--or result in his death on the operating table. The young couple prepared for the worst. When Ryan survived, they both realized that they still had a future together. But the near loss changed the way they saw all that would lie ahead. They would live and love fiercely, fighting for each other and for a Christ-centered marriage, every step of the way. Fierce Marriage is their story, but more than that, it is a call for married couples to put God first in their relationship, to measure everything they do and say to each other against what Christ did for them, and to see marriage not just as a relationship they should try to keep healthy but also as one worth fighting for in every situation. With the gospel as their foundation, Ryan and Selena offer hope and practical help for common struggles in marriage, including communication problems, sexual frustration, financial stress, family tension, screen-time disconnection, and unrealistic expectations.

Book The Cure for Today s Dying Church

Download or read book The Cure for Today s Dying Church written by Dr. Meyer Janse Van Rensburg and published by XinXii. This book was released on 2018-02-01 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The church is in the desert today!! The arid conditions existing in the church leave the people parched, thirsty and longing for refreshing. Many church leaders do not know how to get the spiritual water for themselves and therefore they cannot lead God’s people into the Promised Land of true fellowship and discipleship. This sad state of the church causes many church buildings to stand empty because people are tired of church leaders committing gross indecencies and leading people astray with messages that “tickle their ears” or boring them to tears with sermons that contain no life-changing truths. In The Wellspring of Life: Why the Church is Dying of Thirst, Dr. Meyer van Rensburg addresses the issue by pointing out many of the mistakes that have been made (from spraying people with “Doom” insecticide in Africa to church leaders refusing to be criticised because they see themselves as “little gods”, as well as the vacuous Sunday services that leave people in the same state that they came to church, instead of inspiring them and changing their lives). The church is dying of thirst in the desert and the condition can only be treated by discovering the living water to quench that thirst. Too many church leaders do not know how to hear the voice of God and therefore cannot lead people to the living water. By following the listing of the well in the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, this book demonstrates that the church needs the living water the Wellspring of Life provides. Each mention of the well is dealt with separately to show the significance of what is revealed there, to prove how these Scriptures were specifically put in this order to provide a systematic study of the importance of the well to the church and to point out the mistakes people in the church make. For instance, with Hagar, the fact that the well existed in the desert is first explored and then the fact that it had to be revealed for her to see it. Many people live next to the Well, but it has never been revealed to them that it can change their lives. Further revelations follow with each mention of the well: from Abraham, Isaac and Jacob through to David and the prophets. This continues to the New Testament and the Book of Revelation to show how God will provide for us if we can but follow His instructions regarding the Wellspring of Life. The truths discovered are applied as lessons for the church today. Pastors and ministry professionals will find this book illuminating as it covers new ground, yet it is aimed at the church-going public. It can also serve as a handbook in colleges, as it has many references and quotes, yet it is not written in high academic language.

Book Deeper Waters

  • Author : Rev. Nibs Stroupe
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2017-09-06
  • ISBN : 1532631391

Download or read book Deeper Waters written by Rev. Nibs Stroupe and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-09-06 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deeper Waters is a sermon collection--but also a manifesto. Its sermons sound forth a call for Christian preaching that is evangelical and emancipatory: unashamed of the good news about Christ's death and resurrection and resolute in resistance to white supremacy, male domination, and redemptive violence. The author, pastor Nibs Stroupe, is a white son of the segregated South, nurtured in its twin traditions of anti-black white racism and Christian faith. But through the courageous witness of black Americans engaged in the Civil Rights movement, Stroupe experienced conversion to a new theological vision. God's loving claim on humanity in Jesus Christ abolishes oppressive idols and breaks down dividing barriers. This conviction propelled Nibs into a lifelong ministry of gospel proclamation and antiracist struggle. For thirty-four years, Stroupe pastored at Oakhurst Presbyterian Church, a multiracial congregation in metropolitan Atlanta. The sermons of this collection present the mature fruit of that ministry, and they offer a gift and example to the next generation of preachers and workers summoned as witnesses of Jesus Christ to the American context.

Book The Contemporary Parallel Bible

Download or read book The Contemporary Parallel Bible written by John R. Kohlenberger (III) and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 1538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique volume displays the parallel texts of a pair of today's most popular evangelical Bible editions. Together, the New King James Version and New International Version represent the two major approaches to modern Bible translation. The New King James Version, an updating of the renowned King James Version, is technically known as a formal equivalent translation (often referred to as "word-for-word"). This means that scholars rendered the Hebrew, Aramaic and koine Greek of the biblical text into English that is as close as possible to its original meaning. The result is a translation that is particularly valuable for careful analysis of the text. The New International Version represents the "thought-for-thought" school of Bible translation (technically known as dynamic or functional equivalent). This method places the priority on the intended meaning of the original vocabulary, adapting it to English syntax and grammar. Such a translation tends to be easier to read and understand. The NKJV and NIV texts are arranged in two columns on each page of the Contemporary Parallel Bible, enabling readers to easily compare the word and phrasing choices made by the scholarly committees that brought these highly regarded translations into being.
