Book God Grades and Graduation

Download or read book God Grades and Graduation written by Ilana M. Horwitz and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It's widely acknowledged that American parents from different class backgrounds take different approaches to raising their children. Upper and middle-class parents invest considerable time facilitating their children's activities, while working class and poor families take a more hands-off approach. These different strategies influence how children approach school. But missing from the discussion is the fact that millions of parents on both sides of the class divide are raising their children to listen to God. What impact does a religious upbringing have on their academic trajectories? Drawing on 10 years of survey data with over 3,000 teenagers and over 200 interviews, God, Grades, and Graduation (GGG) offers a revealing and at times surprising account of how teenagers' religious upbringing influences their educational pathways from high school to college. GGG introduces readers to a childrearing logic that cuts across social class groups and accounts for Americans' deep relationship with God: religious restraint. This book takes us inside the lives of these teenagers to discover why they achieve higher grades than their peers, why they are more likely to graduate from college, and why boys from lower middle-class families particularly benefit from religious restraint. But readers also learn how for middle-upper class kids--and for girls especially--religious restraint recalibrates their academic ambitions after graduation, leading them to question the value of attending a selective college despite their stellar grades in high school. By illuminating the far-reaching effects of the childrearing logic of religious restraint, GGG offers a compelling new narrative about the role of religion in academic outcomes and educational inequality"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Spectrum of Religion Not even the deathless interest in the subject of religion could warrant this book if it were theoretical or speculative. Grant that this writer were prepared to produce such a treatise - an assumption which he emphatically denies - the needs of our day do not include a compilation of a priori arguments for religion. That our needs do include, however, such an understanding of religion as to interpret it in terms of modern life even the unthinking understand. The general volume in the library of the "Men and Religion Forward Movement," that wave of religious zeal which swept America a half dozen years ago, is entitled Making Religion Efficient. Here that talismaniac word of modern times, "efficiency," is coupled with religion in the obvious effort to give such spinal strength to religious doctrine and such corpuscular vigor to religious action that the mightiest and sturdiest manhood of the generation might be enlisted in the propaganda of religion. Book Faith Based Marketing

Download or read book Faith Based Marketing written by Bob Hutchins and published by John Wiley and Sons. This book was released on 2009-04-06 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most businesses don’t have a good understanding of the faith community and how to market to this huge audience in effective, culturally sensitive ways. Many attempts to market to Christians have backfired, because the marketers had little understanding of Christians’ values, taboos, and "hot buttons". Yet the size of the opportunity is enormous. Faith-Based Marketing provides everything business leaders need to understand 140 million Christian consumers and effectively reach them. It explains who Christians are, what they want, and provides traditional, new media, and word-of-mouth strategies to communicate with and engage them and their churches. The book also includes a valuable directory of top Christian organizations, churches, and events, to help marketers and business leaders find out whom to contact and how. The book includes a free subscription to a companion website with bonus content.
