Book Mainstreaming Statistics in the Poverty Reduction Strategy Approach to Provide for More Effective Technical Assistance

Download or read book Mainstreaming Statistics in the Poverty Reduction Strategy Approach to Provide for More Effective Technical Assistance written by Mr.Robin D. Kibuka and published by INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND. This book was released on 2007-11-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper reviews the Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS) approach and efforts to build institutional statistical capacity to permit evidence-based monitoring of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs). Integrating the PRS approach and statistical development strategies could provide significant synergies in improving the monitoring of the PRSP goals. Mainstreaming the statistical strategies in such development plans should enhance the national priority for statistical reforms and provide a basis for costing such reforms for their incorporation into the medium-term expenditure framework. The paper concludes that such an outcome is likely to facilitate funding for the implementation of these reforms and boost the effectiveness of statistical technical assistance.

Book The General Data Dissemination System GDDS A Reflection on its First 12 Years and Plans for Taking it Forward

Download or read book The General Data Dissemination System GDDS A Reflection on its First 12 Years and Plans for Taking it Forward written by Mr.Charles Enoch and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2009-12-01 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper reviews the developments in the last 12 years that have influenced the evolution of the IMF's General Data Dissemination System, leading to reforms to enhance its role. The GDDS itself is part of a broader IMF Data Standards Initiative launched in 1996 to help address macroeconomic data deficiencies, which contributed to the emerging economies' financial crisis during the early 1990s. The review takes stock of the experience with statistical technical assistance provided to member countries and the ongoing reforms, within and outside the IMF, to strengthen the GDDS. Such reforms are particularly relevant in the context of the ongoing economic and financial crisis, which once again underscores the role of statistics in guiding policymakers to strengthen defenses against future crises.

This book was released on 2007-07-25 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The IMF's work on data dissemination standards consists of two tiers: the General Data Dissemination System (GDDS), which applies to all IMF member countries, and the Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS), for those members having or seeking access to international capital markets. The GDDS framework provide governments with guidance on the overall development of the macroeconomic, financial, and sociodemographic data that are essential for policymaking and analysis in an environment that increasingly requires relevant, comprehensive, and accurate statistical data. It provides national statistical authorities with a management tool and a framework to foster sound statistical methodology, professional data compilation, and data dissemination. The Guide supersedes the version updated in March 2002 and incorporates the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as specific elements of the GDDS sociodemographic component, which was articulated with the collaboration of the World Bank.

This book was released on 2010-04-29 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. At the practical level, it presents the results of case studies focusing on assistance provided by the European Union and key member states and the climate needs articulated by developing countries. At the political level, it highlights the sensitivities between developed and developing countries and examines the mainstreaming debate in various fora. This book is valuable for policymakers, academics, politicians and non-state actors working in the fields of development studies, international law, politics, international relations, economics, climate change, and environmental studies.
