Book excerpt: This IBM® Redbooks® publication helps you install, customize, and configure an IBM z13® and build z/OS® environments. This book is intended for those readers who are new to the platform and are faced with the task of installing a mainframe for the first time. By the term mainframe in this instance, we refer to the hardware and the system software. The intention is to show you how this installation can be done. Volume 1 shows you how we set up a mainframe and installed z/OS V2R2 and IBM DB2® V11. The starting point is a basic hardware configuration of an IBM z13 and DS8000® as shipped from the factory. Volume 1 shows you how the following milestones were achieved: Creating a configuration for the Customized Offering Driver (COD) system Stand-alone restoration of the COD Expanding the configuration Installing the z/OS V2R2 ServerPac Loading and running IVPs for z/OS ServerPac Installing DB2 ServerPac and IVPs This publication includes figures that show you how the initial builds were achieved. For this book, we designed a scenario and show you how to build that scenario step-by-step. Although your requirements likely differ from our scenario, we intend to provide you with an example to show you how it can be done and samples and downloadable materials that you can choose to modify to bring you closer to meeting your needs. This book is divided into the following parts: Part 1: Overview and Planning In this part, we introduce you to how we approached the project. Part 2: Configuration and builds In this part, we describe the tasks that must be completed to create the initial build for the scenario that is described in Part 1.

Book Nothing Ventured Everything Gained

Download or read book Nothing Ventured Everything Gained written by Dileep Rao and published by Greenleaf Book Group. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it possible for entrepreneurs to succeed at growing ventures without early-stage venture capital? Based on the fact that more than 9 out of 10 of America’s billion-dollar entrepreneurs did take off without early-stage VC, Dileep Rao says YES! In Nothing Ventured, Everything Gained, Dileep Rao shatters the dominant myth that entrepreneurs need early-stage venture capital to build a giant business. In fact, says Rao, by avoiding or even delaying VC, billion-dollar entrepreneurs can control their companies and the wealth created by them—and retain more of that wealth. The book is based on 30 of Rao’s interviews with billion-dollar entrepreneurs (BDEs) and hundred-million-dollar entrepreneurs (HMDEs) and the analysis of the strategies of 85 BDEs. The author introduces the finance-smart skills, opportunity secrets, and strategy secrets of BDEs who took off without VC, and proves his points via stories of successful giants like Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Steve Jobs. Every entrepreneur will do well to read and benefit from Rao’s invaluable insights and expertise. Dileep Rao, PhD, financed the growth of hundreds of businesses and real estate projects over the twenty-three years he was VP of financing and business development at a venture development and finance institution. He advises entrepreneurs, governments, Fortune 1000 corporations, and financial institutions on building big businesses with finance-smart strategies. Dr. Rao is a clinical professor of entrepreneurship at Florida International University and has taught at Stanford University, the University of Minnesota, and in executive MBA programs in Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

Book Democratizing Innovation

Download or read book Democratizing Innovation written by Eric Von Hippel and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2006-02-17 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The process of user-centered innovation: how it can benefit both users and manufacturers and how its emergence will bring changes in business models and in public policy. Innovation is rapidly becoming democratized. Users, aided by improvements in computer and communications technology, increasingly can develop their own new products and services. These innovating users—both individuals and firms—often freely share their innovations with others, creating user-innovation communities and a rich intellectual commons. In Democratizing Innovation, Eric von Hippel looks closely at this emerging system of user-centered innovation. He explains why and when users find it profitable to develop new products and services for themselves, and why it often pays users to reveal their innovations freely for the use of all.The trend toward democratized innovation can be seen in software and information products—most notably in the free and open-source software movement—but also in physical products. Von Hippel's many examples of user innovation in action range from surgical equipment to surfboards to software security features. He shows that product and service development is concentrated among "lead users," who are ahead on marketplace trends and whose innovations are often commercially attractive. Von Hippel argues that manufacturers should redesign their innovation processes and that they should systematically seek out innovations developed by users. He points to businesses—the custom semiconductor industry is one example—that have learned to assist user-innovators by providing them with toolkits for developing new products. User innovation has a positive impact on social welfare, and von Hippel proposes that government policies, including R&D subsidies and tax credits, should be realigned to eliminate biases against it. The goal of a democratized user-centered innovation system, says von Hippel, is well worth striving for. An electronic version of this book is available under a Creative Commons license.

Book excerpt: As a higher functioning autistic exploring the fascinating world of Scientific truths as it applies to extrapolating future events. Differentiating between Science Fiction or Science Future depends on a politically driven propaganda as it pertains to the prevailing insurgent narratives. Politics is benign, unless there's a technological force driving whatever social engineering is desirable. EATES SOP (Earth's Alien Technological Expeditionary Service -Standard Operating Procedure) marks a division between Earth's immobile existence and EATES' need to explore. The Earth's indoctrinating Internet represents the new permanence, where immobility festers a subjugated quarantine. The need for constant information has replaced resourcefulness, until Earth's scientists rediscovered Reverse Engineering.of alien technology. How we challenge ourselves beyond political expectations is why humanity wrestles with the idea of individual ingenuity and creativity. Ultimately, EATES decided to go it alone as scientists wanted something better out of life than an indentured existence. And to that end, EATES was born.. The culmination of 200 years has brought us to this point where science needs to decide, should politicians determine the fate of Science, or real Scientists on a mission?

Book Murach s Mainframe COBOL

Download or read book Murach s Mainframe COBOL written by Mike Murach and published by Mike Murach & Associates. This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the latest edition of our classic COBOL book that has set the standard for structured design and coding since the mid-1970s. So if you want to learn how to write COBOL programs the way they're written in the best enterprise COBOL shops, this is the book for you. And when you're done learning from this book, it becomes the best reference you'll ever find for use on the job. Throughout the book, you will learn how to use COBOL on IBM mainframes because that's where 90% or more of all COBOL is running. But to work on a mainframe, you need to know more than just the COBOL language. That's why this book also shows you: how to use the ISPF editor for entering programs; how to use TSO/E and JCL to compile and test programs; how to use the AMS utility to work with VSAM files; how to use CICS for developing interactive COBOL programs; how to use DB2 for developing COBOL programs that handle database data; how to maintain legacy programs. If you want to learn COBOL for other platforms, this book will get you off to a good start because COBOL is a standard language. In fact, all of the COBOL that's presented in this book will also run on any other platform that has a COBOL compiler. Remember, though, that billions of lines of mainframe COBOL are currently in use, and those programs will keep programmers busy for many years to come.
