Book Electronic Raman Scattering Theory in Rare Earth Garnets

Download or read book Electronic Raman Scattering Theory in Rare Earth Garnets written by Joan L. Lewis and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work involves the calculation of the relative Raman scattering intensities of low-lying electronic transitions in rare earth garnets. An evaluation is made as to the usefulness of such calculations in testing the crystal field wavefunctions of rare earth garnets. The garnets studied are paramagnetic YbGaG, YbAlG, DyGaG, and DyAlG, DyAlG is also studied at temperatures below its ordering temperature (T sub N = 2.5 degrees K) and with an applied magnetic field. In order to obtain crystal field wavefunctions necessary for the relative Raman intensity calculations, crystal field analysis are done in this work for DyGaG and DyAlG. For YbGaG and YbAlG the wavefunctions of Pearson (1971) are used in the intensity calculations. Simple expressions of the relative scattering intensities are derived for the paramagnetic and the antiferromagnetic cases. Such expressions are obtained for several different combinations of the polarizations of the incident and scattered light. (Author).

Book Spectroscopy of Crystals Containing Rare Earth Ions

Download or read book Spectroscopy of Crystals Containing Rare Earth Ions written by A.A. Kaplyanskii and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 767 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ``Spectroscopy of Crystals Containing Rare Earth Ions'' contains chapters on some key problems selected from a broad range of spectroscopic studies of RE-activated solids including both crystalline and glassy materials. Progress in crystal field theory is surveyed, an area which is basic to our understanding of the energy levels. The treatment of dynamical properties includes studies of coherence phenomena in isolated ions, energy transfer between ions and co-operative phenomena associated with ion-ion and ion-lattice interactions. In addition, the role of electron spins and nuclear spins is studied by light scattering and double resonance techniques. The presence of inhomogeneous broadening of spectral lines is observed and studied in many contexts, leading to new insights into general problems of the disordered state. Considerable attention is devoted to describing new experimental techniques whose development is of prime importance for progress in the spectroscopy of RE-activated solids. Many of these rely on the development and application of tunable lasers. At the moment this is a very active field of spectroscopy with more exciting developments likely to occur in the future.

Book Resonance Electronic Raman Scattering in Rare Earth Crystals

Download or read book Resonance Electronic Raman Scattering in Rare Earth Crystals written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intensities of Raman scattering transitions between electronic energy levels of trivalent rare earth ions doped into transparent crystals were measured and compared to theory. A particle emphasis was placed on the examination of the effect of intermediate state resonances on the Raman scattering intensities. Two specific systems were studied: Ce/sup 3 +/(4f1) in single crystals of LuPO4 and Er/sup 3 +/(4f11) in single crystals of ErPO4. 134 refs., 92 figs., 33 tabs.

Book Laser Raman Scattering Studies of Crystals

Download or read book Laser Raman Scattering Studies of Crystals written by Herman Z. Cummins and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laser excited Raman scattering has been explored as a technique for studying crystals containing impurities, particularly the rare-earth doped crystals widely used as laser materials. Spectra obtained with both an A(+)4880 A laser and a He-Ne 6328 A laser are given for CaF2 and CaWO4 crystals, both pure and doped with various rare earths. To date, the doped crystals studied have either produced strong fluorescence or else given spectra which are indistinguishable from those of the pure crystals. Modification of the instrumentation is discussed which is currently in progress. With the improved apparatus, further efforts are planned to look for electronic Raman structure of the rare earth ions as well as modification of the vibrational Raman structure due to perturbation of the lattice by the impurities. Book Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering

Download or read book Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering written by Katrin Kneipp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-21 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost 30 years after the first reports on surface-enhanced Raman signals, the phenomenon of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is now well established. SERS gained particular interest after single-molecule Raman spectroscopy had been demonstrated. This book summarizes and discusses present theoretical approaches that explain the phenomenon of SERS and reports on new and exciting experiments and applications of the fascinating spectroscopic effect.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Raman Scattering on Emerging Semiconductors and Oxides presents Raman scattering studies. It describes the key fundamental elements in applying Raman spectroscopies to various semiconductors and oxides without complicated and deep Raman theories. Across nine chapters, it covers: • SiC and IV-IV semiconductors, • III-GaN and nitride semiconductors, • III-V and II-VI semiconductors, • ZnO-based and GaO-based semiconducting oxides, • Graphene, ferroelectric oxides, and other emerging materials, • Wide-bandgap semiconductors of SiC, GaN, and ZnO, and • Ultra-wide gap semiconductors of AlN, Ga2O3, and graphene. Key achievements from the author and collaborators in the above fields are referred to and cited with typical Raman spectral graphs and analyses. Book Electronic Raman Spectra Iv Relation Between the Scattering Tensor and the Symmetry of the Crystal Field

Download or read book Electronic Raman Spectra Iv Relation Between the Scattering Tensor and the Symmetry of the Crystal Field written by J. A. Koningstein and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scattering tensor for the electronic Raman transitions of the trivalent europium ion has been calculated for cases in which the rare-earth ion experiences a crystal field of cubic, hexagonal, and tetragonal symmetry. It is shown that such crystal fields give rise to Raman spectra of which polarization features are direct indications of the symmetry of the environment. The heptuplet F(1)-heptuplet F(0) transitions are all related to the antisymmetry of a scattering tensor, whereas the heptuplet F(2)-heptuplet F(0) transitions are related to a symmetric tensor. According to theory, the latter transitions should be more intense than the former. (Author).
