Book excerpt: Scotto Moore's Wild Massive is a glorious web of lies, secrets, and humor in a breakneck, nitrous-boosted saga of the small rejecting the will of the mighty. Welcome to the Building, an infinitely tall skyscraper in the center of the multiverse, where any floor could contain a sprawling desert oasis, a cyanide rain forest, or an entire world. Carissa loves her elevator. Up and Down she goes, content with the sometimes chewy food her reality fabricator spits out, as long as it means she doesn’t have to speak to another living person. But when a mysterious shapeshifter from an ambiguous world lands on top of her elevator, intent on stopping a plot to annihilate hundreds of floors, Carissa finds herself stepping out of her comfort zone. She is forced to flee into the Wild Massive network of theme parks in the Building, where technology, sorcery, and elaborate media tie-ins combine to form impossible ride experiences, where every guest is a VIP, the roller coasters are frequently safe, and if you don’t have a valid day pass, the automated defense lasers will escort you from being alive. Wild Massive: The #1 destination for interdimensional war. During these dire times of the darkness that has yet to consume the realm of Tannrias, full of life, some groups since the beginning of their establishment have revealed to the world themselves as holy, righteous folk based on their appearances and actions, but looks and actions can always be deceiving. Sidgbrienn Trosgrid, the son of Chief Rogradin Trosgrid of the island Throzgar, suffered an ill-fated omen according to Throzgarian culture. However, fate may not yet have fully abandoned the young Throzgarian. It may indeed show him another path which will use him as one of the prime pieces Tannrias may depend on for delaying the darkness that is growing there. In addition, fate may have Sidgbrienn cross paths with folk who are willing to help him against the forces of wickedness and corruption for the same reason Sidgbrienn defies the two conflicts while others may simply join him for their own agenda. Can these different agendas affect the future of Tannrias and others in the long run, and can some factions established in Tannrias be involved with the mysterious darkness that has yet to reveal itself?

Book Magical Epistemologies

Download or read book Magical Epistemologies written by Anannya Dasgupta and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-07-22 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book began with a simple question: when readers such as us encounter the term magic or figures of magicians in early modern texts, dramatic or otherwise, how do we read them? In the twenty-first century we have recourse to an array of genres and vocabulary from magical realism to fantasy fiction that does not, however, work to read a historical figure like John Dee or a fictional one he inspired in Shakespeare's Prospero. Between longings to transcend human limitation and the actual work of producing, translating, and organizing knowledge, figures such as Dee invite us to re-examine our ways of reading magic only as metaphor. If not metaphor then what else? As we parse the term magic, it reveals a rich context of use that connects various aspects of social, cultural, religious, economic, legal and medical lives of the early moderns. Magic makes its presence felt not only as a forms of knowledge but in methods of knowing in the Renaissance. The arc of dramatists and texts that this book draws between Doctor Faustus, The Tempest, The Alchemist and Comus: A Masque at Ludlow Castle offers a sustained examination of the epistemologies of magic in the context of early modern knowledge formation. Please note: Taylor & Francis does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
