No obstante, la mejor forma de empezar la educación emocional es desarrollar las propias competencias emocionales en la interacción con el aula, porque ello permite no solo actuar de modelo de competencia, sino también acompañar al alumnado en su propia vivencia y regulación emocional. El seguimiento de este programa, que consta de siete sesiones, facilita conocer, desarrollar y aplicar un modelo de educación emocional basado en las cuatro competencias emocionales del modelo de Inteligencia Emocional de Mayer y Salovey (1996), además de otras habilidades relacionadas como la empatía, asertividad y solución de problemas. El modelo de educación emocional propuesto por las autoras incorpora tres elementos transversales fundamentales: el modelado, el andamiaje y el aprendizaje significativo. Enmarcado en un paradigma humanista-existencial, el programa plantea el diálogo como herramienta fundamental del aprendizaje, el cual se desarrolla en una secuencia que se inicia con la vivencia o exploración de la experiencia, sigue con su comprensión o simbolización y termina con la transferencia y aplicación de lo aprendido a otros ámbitos de la vida. La obra concluye con un resumen sobre los beneficios observados por los docentes participantes de un estudio piloto sobre la implementación del programa.

We then discuss the prevalence of faculty incivility (FI) and students’ incivility (SI) in academic settings and focus on the dyadic relationships between faculty and students in the broader context of incivility in academia, with an added focus on faculty incivility. The second part introduces the main contributors to academic incivility. Personal factors, in this case, social-emotional competencies, and contextual factors, in this case, learning environments, are explored by combining up-to-date research data, personal stories and interviews with lecturers and students. A deep understanding of the precursors of academic incivility is critical to the examination of possible coping strategies within academic settings and elsewhere. In the third part, we explore the potential and practical remedies that can mitigate incivility in academic settings and, in particular, the enhancement of emotional and social competencies and the modification of learning environments.
