Book Anatomy of the Bear

Download or read book Anatomy of the Bear written by Russell Napier and published by Harriman House Limited. This book was released on 2016-01-18 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does one spot the bottom of a bear market? What brings a bear to its end? There are few more important questions to be answered in modern finance. Financial market history is a guide to understanding the future. Looking at the four occasions when US equities were particularly cheap - 1921, 1932, 1949 and 1982 - Russell Napier sets out to answer these questions by analysing every article in the Wall Street Journal from either side of the market bottom. In the 70,000 articles he examines, one begins to understand the features which indicate that a great buying opportunity is emerging. By looking at how markets really did work in these bear-market bottoms, rather than theorising how they should work, Napier offers investors a financial field guide to making the best provisions for the future. This new edition includes a brand new preface from the author and a foreword by Merryn Somerset Webb.

Book Great Western Castle Class 4 6 0 Locomotives 1923 1959

Download or read book Great Western Castle Class 4 6 0 Locomotives 1923 1959 written by David Maidment and published by Pen and Sword Transport. This book was released on 2023-02-16 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Great Western Castles were one of the most successful locomotive designs of the twentieth century in terms of both performance and efficiency. Designed by Charles Collett in 1923, based on the 1907 Churchward ‘Star’ class, 155 were constructed almost continuously, apart from the war years, between 1923 and 1950, in addition to fifteen rebuilt ‘Stars’ and one rebuilt from the Great Bear pacific. Many were modernised with increased superheat and double-chimneys in the late 1950s and the class continued to be the mainstay of all Western Region express passenger services to the West Country, South Wales, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and the West Midlands until replaced by the WR diesel hydraulic fleet in the early 1960s. This book covers their design in a chapter written by Bob Meanley, who masterminded the restoration at Tyseley Works of the Castles Earl of Mount Edgcumbe and Clun Castle, and their history, operation and performance from the high speed of the 1930s through to their rejuvenation in the 1950s, leaving experience of their last years and preservation to another volume. David Maidment had close experience of the class when working at Old Oak Common between 1957 and 1962 and includes his personal experiences there and on the road from his first encounter with one as a six-year old boy. The book includes 350 photographs, some 40 in color, and 23 detailed Swindon technical drawings.

Book Ancestral Chains DNA Part VI of VIII Meers Bloodline

Download or read book Ancestral Chains DNA Part VI of VIII Meers Bloodline written by Mark D Bishop and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-06-29 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Refugees have been part & parcel of the social history & landscape of the British Isles since time immemorial. They have come in waves and they have arrived in droves. They have melted into the DNA pot, enhancing and enriching all aspects of society. Growing up in the Thames Valley, the author would often hear the Italian name Gagette, one or several refugees who arrived on these shores as a result of the French Revolution. One Gagette descendant married into the Meers family of Dickensian Bethnal Green; and they were poor by the standards of some of his other ancestors. It was when Eliza Priscilla Meers married a hard working and enthusiastic young man who was to work as an engineer in Gibraltar and later as the Thames Conservancy Engineer for the area between Teddington and Windsor, that fortunes changed for the better. But in ancestral research, change is never far away it seems and tragedy can be found just around the next bend of Old Father Thames. For, like that river, life has its currents and eddies.

Book German Strategy and the Path to Verdun

Download or read book German Strategy and the Path to Verdun written by Robert T. Foley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-01-06 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost 90 years since its conclusion, the battle of Verdun is still little understood. German Strategy and the Path to Verdun is a detailed examination of this seminal battle based on research conducted in archives long thought lost. Material returned to Germany from the former Soviet Union has allowed for a reinterpretation of Erich von Falkenhayn's overall strategy for the war and of the development of German operational and tactical concepts to fit this new strategy of attrition. By taking a long view of the development of German military ideas from the end of the Franco-German War in 1871, German Strategy and the Path to Verdun also gives much-needed context to Falkenhayn's ideas and the course of one of the greatest battles of attrition the world has ever known.

Book Controversy and Consensus Nuclear Beta Decay 1911 1934

Download or read book Controversy and Consensus Nuclear Beta Decay 1911 1934 written by Carsten Jensen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1920s, a long-lasting controversy on the interpretation of nuclear beta spectrum arose between Lise Meitner and Charles Drummond Ellis. This controversy, and the reactions from the contending parties when it was settled, reflect clearly the difference between the scientific communities in Berlin and Cambridge at that time. The Meitner-Ellis controversy ended in 1929, and it left an anomaly that attracted leading theoretical physicists. A new dispute, this time between Niels Bohr and Wolfgang Pauli, broke out. It concerned the explanation of the continuity of the primary beta particles and dominated the discussions for the next five years. Pauli argued for a new particle, and Bohr for a new theory; both suggestions were radical steps, but they reflected two different ways of doing physics.

Book Allan Dwan and the Rise and Decline of the Hollywood Studios

Download or read book Allan Dwan and the Rise and Decline of the Hollywood Studios written by Frederic Lombardi and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2013-03-05 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It could be said that the career of Canadian-born film director Allan Dwan (1885-1981) began at the dawn of the American motion picture industry. Originally a scriptwriter, Dwan became a director purely by accident. Even so, his creativity and problem-solving skills propelled him to the top of his profession. He achieved success with numerous silent film performers, most spectacularly with Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and Gloria Swanson, and later with such legendary stars as Shirley Temple and John Wayne. Though his star waned in the sound era, Dwan managed to survive through pluck and ingenuity. Considering himself better off without the fame he enjoyed during the silent era, he went on to do some of his best work for second-echelon studios (notably Republic Pictures' Sands of Iwo Jima) and such independent producers as Edward Small. Along the way, Dwan also found personal happiness in an unconventional manner. Rich in detail with two columns of text in each of its nearly 400 pages, and with more than 150 photographs, this book presents a thorough examination of Allan Dwan and separates myth from truth in his life and films.
