Book The Genealogy of Kingsley William Macomber Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Genealogy of Kingsley William Macomber Classic Reprint written by John Kingsley Macomber and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-03 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Genealogy of Kingsley William Macomber As these pages are written by the author, more particularly for the benefit of his own family, it need not surprise anyone to find that the historical sketches of some persons are much longer than for others, and if the biogra phies of my father and mother and of others of my own kin are somewhat laudatory, it must not be forgotten that I am the man who pays for the printer's ink. And as in this age one can always get praise for himself. And his relations by writing them and footing the bills. This will be sent to those who have assisted in procuring information and others of the name. Persons who can furnish additions to the early history of the family are requested to do so, and errors and omissions in this history will be gladly received. As it is the intention, at some future time, to publish a supplement. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Gatherings Toward a Genealogy of the Coffin Family AT the anniversary meeting of the Coffin family at Nantucket in 1881 a committee on genealogy was appointed. Nothing has yet been heard from the committee, and probably nothing ever will be heard from it. Meanwhile I have made such extensive gatherings concerning the branch of the family which remained at N ewbury, that I have determined to print them for preservation, and as a help to him who shall ever undertake a complete genealogy of the family. I will not assert that this record is free from mistakes, but they certainly are very few indeed. I have had the benefit of an examination of the papers of the late Joshua Coffin, which helped me much. From the papers of the late Thomas Coffin Amory I have also learned some facts relating to the Boston branch. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Gifford Genealogy, 1626-1896 The next] find to be William Gifford who, according to Huntington's History of Stamford, was before the court of that settlement in 1647 or before. The sentence of the court against him was that he be whipped at the court's discretion and banished. I believe this William Gifford to be the same William Gifford we find living in Sandwich, Mass, and a member of the Grand Inquest at Plymouth in 1650. He continued to reside in Sandwich until his death with the exception of five years between 1665 and 1670 when he with George Allen and the sons of Peter Gaunt, all of Sandwich, together with others, were first proprietors of and settled Monmouth, N. J., having purchased the land of the Indians and to whom the Monmouth Patent was granted, 8 April 1665. They being adherents to the Quaker faith, suffered severely by fines and vexatious suits both in Massachusetts and New Jersey.
