Book Foundations of Rule Learning

    Book Details:
  • Author : Johannes Fürnkranz
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-11-06
  • ISBN : 3540751971
  • Pages : 345 pages

Download or read book Foundations of Rule Learning written by Johannes Fürnkranz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-06 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rules – the clearest, most explored and best understood form of knowledge representation – are particularly important for data mining, as they offer the best tradeoff between human and machine understandability. This book presents the fundamentals of rule learning as investigated in classical machine learning and modern data mining. It introduces a feature-based view, as a unifying framework for propositional and relational rule learning, thus bridging the gap between attribute-value learning and inductive logic programming, and providing complete coverage of most important elements of rule learning. The book can be used as a textbook for teaching machine learning, as well as a comprehensive reference to research in the field of inductive rule learning. As such, it targets students, researchers and developers of rule learning algorithms, presenting the fundamental rule learning concepts in sufficient breadth and depth to enable the reader to understand, develop and apply rule learning techniques to real-world data.

Book Conceptual Graphs for Knowledge Representation

Download or read book Conceptual Graphs for Knowledge Representation written by Guy W. Mineau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-07-14 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial Intelligence and cognitive science are the two fields devoted to the study and development of knowledge-based systems (KBS). Over the past 25years, researchers have proposed several approaches for modeling knowledge in KBS, including several kinds of formalism such as semantic networks, frames, and logics. In the early 1980s, J.F. Sowa introduced the conceptual graph (CG) theory which provides a knowledge representation framework consisting of a form of logic with a graph notationand integrating several features from semantic net and frame representations. Since that time, several research teams over the world have been working on the application and extension of CG theory in various domains ranging from natural language processing to database modeling and machine learning. This volume contains selected papers fromthe international conference on Conceptual Structures held in the city of Quebec, Canada, August 4-7, 1993. The volume opens with invited papers by J.F. Sowa, B.R. Gaines, and J. Barwise.

Book Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Under Uncertainty

Download or read book Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Under Uncertainty written by Michael Masuch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1994-06-28 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is based on the International Conference Logic at Work, held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in December 1992. The 14 papers in this volume are selected from 86 submissions and 8 invited contributions and are all devoted to knowledge representation and reasoning under uncertainty, which are core issues of formal artificial intelligence. Nowadays, logic is not any longer mainly associated to mathematical and philosophical problems. The term applied logic has a far wider meaning, as numerous applications of logical methods, particularly in computer science, artificial intelligence, or formal linguistics, testify. As demonstrated also in this volume, a variety of non-standard logics gained increased importance for knowledge representation and reasoning under uncertainty.

Book Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery with Evolutionary Algorithms

Download or read book Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery with Evolutionary Algorithms written by Alex A. Freitas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book integrates two areas of computer science, namely data mining and evolutionary algorithms. Both these areas have become increasingly popular in the last few years, and their integration is currently an active research area. In general, data mining consists of extracting knowledge from data. The motivation for applying evolutionary algorithms to data mining is that evolutionary algorithms are robust search methods which perform a global search in the space of candidate solutions. This book emphasizes the importance of discovering comprehensible, interesting knowledge, which is potentially useful for intelligent decision making. The text explains both basic concepts and advanced topics

Book Qualitative Representation of Spatial Knowledge

Download or read book Qualitative Representation of Spatial Knowledge written by Daniel Hernandez and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1994-06-28 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops, for the first time, a qualitative model for the representation of spatial knowledge based only on locative relations between the objects involved. The core of this book is devoted to the study of qualitative inference methods that take into account the rich structure of space. These methods can be applied to quite a number of areas characterized by uncertain or incomplete knowledge, as for example geographic information systems, robot control, computer-aided architectural design, and natural language information systems.

Book Methods and Applications of Artificial Intelligence

Download or read book Methods and Applications of Artificial Intelligence written by George A. Vouros and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-04-22 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arti?cial intelligence has attracted a renewed interest from distinguished sci- tists and has again raised new, more realistic this time, expectations for future advances regarding the development of theories, models and techniques and the use of them in applications pervading many areas of our daily life. The borders of human-level intelligence are still very far away and possibly unknown. Nev- theless, recent scienti?c work inspires us to work even harder in our exploration of the unknown lands of intelligence. This volume contains papers selected for presentation at the 3rd Hellenic Conference on Arti?cial Intelligence (SETN 2004), the o?cial meeting of the Hellenic Society for Arti?cial Intelligence (EETN). The ?rst meeting was held in the University of Piraeus, 1996 and the second in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), 2002. SETN conferences play an important role in the dissemination of the in- vative and high-quality scienti?c results in arti?cial intelligence which are being produced mainly by Greek scientists in institutes all over the world. However, the most important e?ect of SETN conferences is that they provide the context in which people meet and get to know each other, as well as a very good opp- tunity for students to get closer to the results of innovative arti?cial intelligence research.
