Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conformal predictions framework is a recent development in machine learning that can associate a reliable measure of confidence with a prediction in any real-world pattern recognition application, including risk-sensitive applications such as medical diagnosis, face recognition, and financial risk prediction. Conformal Predictions for Reliable Machine Learning: Theory, Adaptations and Applications captures the basic theory of the framework, demonstrates how to apply it to real-world problems, and presents several adaptations, including active learning, change detection, and anomaly detection. As practitioners and researchers around the world apply and adapt the framework, this edited volume brings together these bodies of work, providing a springboard for further research as well as a handbook for application in real-world problems. Understand the theoretical foundations of this important framework that can provide a reliable measure of confidence with predictions in machine learning Be able to apply this framework to real-world problems in different machine learning settings, including classification, regression, and clustering Learn effective ways of adapting the framework to newer problem settings, such as active learning, model selection, or change detection

Book Ensembles in Machine Learning Applications

Download or read book Ensembles in Machine Learning Applications written by Oleg Okun and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-09-01 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the extended papers presented at the 3rd Workshop on Supervised and Unsupervised Ensemble Methods and their Applications (SUEMA) that was held in conjunction with the European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECML/PKDD 2010, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain). As its two predecessors, its main theme was ensembles of supervised and unsupervised algorithms – advanced machine learning and data mining technique. Unlike a single classification or clustering algorithm, an ensemble is a group of algorithms, each of which first independently solves the task at hand by assigning a class or cluster label (voting) to instances in a dataset and after that all votes are combined together to produce the final class or cluster membership. As a result, ensembles often outperform best single algorithms in many real-world problems. This book consists of 14 chapters, each of which can be read independently of the others. In addition to two previous SUEMA editions, also published by Springer, many chapters in the current book include pseudo code and/or programming code of the algorithms described in them. This was done in order to facilitate ensemble adoption in practice and to help to both researchers and engineers developing ensemble applications.

Book Algorithms for Reinforcement Learning

Download or read book Algorithms for Reinforcement Learning written by Csaba Szepesvari and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2010 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reinforcement learning is a learning paradigm concerned with learning to control a system so as to maximize a numerical performance measure that expresses a long-term objective. What distinguishes reinforcement learning from supervised learning is that only partial feedback is given to the learner about the learner's predictions. Further, the predictions may have long term effects through influencing the future state of the controlled system. Thus, time plays a special role. The goal in reinforcement learning is to develop efficient learning algorithms, as well as to understand the algorithms' merits and limitations. Reinforcement learning is of great interest because of the large number of practical applications that it can be used to address, ranging from problems in artificial intelligence to operations research or control engineering. In this book, we focus on those algorithms of reinforcement learning that build on the powerful theory of dynamic programming. We give a fairly comprehensive catalog of learning problems, describe the core ideas, note a large number of state of the art algorithms, followed by the discussion of their theoretical properties and limitations.

Book Statistical Relational Artificial Intelligence

Download or read book Statistical Relational Artificial Intelligence written by Luc De Kang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An intelligent agent interacting with the real world will encounter individual people, courses, test results, drugs prescriptions, chairs, boxes, etc., and needs to reason about properties of these individuals and relations among them as well as cope with uncertainty. Uncertainty has been studied in probability theory and graphical models, and relations have been studied in logic, in particular in the predicate calculus and its extensions. This book examines the foundations of combining logic and probability into what are called relational probabilistic models. It introduces representations, inference, and learning techniques for probability, logic, and their combinations. The book focuses on two representations in detail: Markov logic networks, a relational extension of undirected graphical models and weighted first-order predicate calculus formula, and Problog, a probabilistic extension of logic programs that can also be viewed as a Turing-complete relational extension of Bayesian networks.
