Book excerpt: M4M is a one-stop resource for the millions of gay men seeking love online—it will make the difference between sitting online and actually finding what you're there for! Millions of gay men are searching for love—and the vast majority of them are now searching online. But while the internet helps bring people together, its anonymity, lack of rules, and easy stage for false advertising often result in disappointing matches. But the right guy is out there. Chances are good that every gay man could find exactly what he's looking for online—if he only knew where and how to look. In M4M, Jack Mauro offers candid, witty advice on every aspect of the gay online-dating arena—how to (and how not to) compose a successful profile, what kind of photo to use ("normal," naked, and everything in between), the art of direct messaging (from the basics to advanced seduction), "straight" men in gay chats, navigating the usual suspects found in seemingly every chat room, taking it offline, and much, much more. Whether the goal is a quick fling or a lifelong partnership, M4M gives both the frustrated online veteran and the curious newbie everything they need to know to get them away from the keyboard and into a satisfying real-life connection.

Whether they’re spending treasured time with friends, showing up for forced family fun, or making good their escape from the shopping throngs, the men in these stories are all about to make the same discovery: love makes a terrific present. Contains the stories: The Gift of the Gay Guy: ‘Tis the night before Christmas when Derrick Halvorson catches Lee, a hot one night stand, emptying his wallet. When he resurfaces in the morning, Derrick resolves to stay mad, even as he turns up at his mom’s for Christmas with Lee in tow. When his cop brother recognizes Lee, Derrick fears the worst. Obviously Lee is a career criminal, but what if the next thing he steals is Derrick’s heart? Isle Be Home for Christmas: When Justin jets off to the tropics for the winter, a fling with a middle-aged American gym jock isn’t exactly on his itinerary. But when Cole comes to town on a cruise, it turns out there are worse ways to dance the night away. Good-bye doesn’t come easy, and when the ship’s still in port the next morning, Justin hurries down to the dock. Has he been naughty enough to deserve Cole for Christmas? It's Not Yule, It's Me: Shannon hates Christmas. Mostly because Christmas hates him. Which is why he’s a whimpering mess when he meets Ben one Christmas morning. But Ben’s such a bright spot that after a while Shannon wonders if maybe his Christmas Curse hasn’t been lifted. And what better place to test this theory than at Ben’s family festivities? It’s not like Christmas is actually cursed. Is it? Santa's Secret: In a flash of drunken inspiration, Samir pens his very first letter to Santa Claus. In it, he asks to find his cutie-pie crush, Kerry, under his tree on Christmas morning. It’s a wish that verges on coming true, even, until Kerry breaks their Christmas Eve date for the worst reason Samir has ever been called upon to pretend to believe. But Santa works in mysterious ways ... O Come, Let Us Adore Him: When Richard’s invited to join Colin for Christmas in Cancun, he bolts for the airport -- Colin has finally chosen him over Joaquin! But life with Colin is full of surprises. He’s invited Joaquin to Cancun, too, hoping to spice up his holiday by being fought over. When Richard and Joaquin hit it off, Colin must recalibrate his approach. Unless bringing everyone together was his plan all along.

Book Paraconsistent Logic Consistency Contradiction and Negation

Download or read book Paraconsistent Logic Consistency Contradiction and Negation written by Walter Carnielli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first in the field of paraconsistency to offer a comprehensive overview of the subject, including connections to other logics and applications in information processing, linguistics, reasoning and argumentation, and philosophy of science. It is recommended reading for anyone interested in the question of reasoning and argumentation in the presence of contradictions, in semantics, in the paradoxes of set theory and in the puzzling properties of negation in logic programming. Paraconsistent logic comprises a major logical theory and offers the broadest possible perspective on the debate of negation in logic and philosophy. It is a powerful tool for reasoning under contradictoriness as it investigates logic systems in which contradictory information does not lead to arbitrary conclusions. Reasoning under contradictions constitutes one of most important and creative achievements in contemporary logic, with deep roots in philosophical questions involving negation and consistency This book offers an invaluable introduction to a topic of central importance in logic and philosophy. It discusses (i) the history of paraconsistent logic; (ii) language, negation, contradiction, consistency and inconsistency; (iii) logics of formal inconsistency (LFIs) and the main paraconsistent propositional systems; (iv) many-valued companions, possible-translations semantics and non-deterministic semantics; (v) paraconsistent modal logics; (vi) first-order paraconsistent logics; (vii) applications to information processing, databases and quantum computation; and (viii) applications to deontic paradoxes, connections to Eastern thought and to dialogical reasoning.

Book Screen Love

    Book Details:
  • Author : Tom Roach
  • Publisher : State University of New York Press
  • Release : 2021-02-01
  • ISBN : 1438482094
  • Pages : 224 pages

Download or read book Screen Love written by Tom Roach and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2021-02-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In work, play, education, and even healthcare, we are using social media during COVID-19 to approximate "normal life" before the pandemic. In Screen Love, Tom Roach urges us to do the opposite. Rather than highlight the ways that social media might help reproduce the pre-pandemic status quo, Roach explores how Grindr and other dating/hookup apps can help us envision a radically new normal: specifically, antinormative conceptions of selfhood and community. Although these media are steeped in neoliberal relational and communicative norms, they offer opportunities to reconceive subjectivity and ethics in ways that defy normative psychological and sexual paradigms. In the virtual cruise, Roach argues, we might experience a queer sociability in which participants are formally interchangeable avatar-objects. On Grindr and other m4m platforms, a model of selfhood championed in liberal-humanist traditions—an intelligent, altruistic, eloquent, and emotionally expressive self—is often a liability. By teasing out the queer ethical and political potential of an antisocial, virtual fungibility, Roach compels readers to think twice about media typically dismissed as sordid, superficial, and narcissistic. Written for students, professors, and nonacademics alike, Screen Love is an accessible, provocative, and at times subversively funny read.

Book The Elusive Embrace

Download or read book The Elusive Embrace written by Daniel Mendelsohn and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2012-01-04 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hailed for its searing emotional insights, and for the astonishing originality with which it weaves together personal history, cultural essay, and readings of classical texts by Sophocles, Ovid, Euripides, and Sappho, The Elusive Embrace is a profound exploration of the mysteries of identity. It is also a meditation in which the author uses his own divided life to investigate the "rich conflictedness of things," the double lives all of us lead. Daniel Mendelsohn recalls the deceptively quiet suburb where he grew up, torn between his mathematician father's pursuit of scientific truth and the exquisite lies spun by his Orthodox Jewish grandfather; the streets of manhattan's newest "gay ghetto," where "desire for love" competes with "love of desire;" and the quiet moonlit house where a close friend's small son teaches him the meaning of fatherhood. And, finally, in a neglected Jewish cemetery, the author uncovers a family secret that reveals the universal need for storytelling, for inventing myths of the self. The book that Hilton Als calls "equal to Whitman's 'Song of Myself,'" The Elusive Embrace marks a dazzling literary debut.

Book The Routledge Handbook of Women s Work in Music

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Women s Work in Music written by Rhiannon Mathias and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-31 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook of Women’s Work in Music presents a unique collection of core research by academics and music practitioners from around the world, engaging with an extraordinarily wide range of topics on women’s contributions to Western and Eastern art music, popular music, world music, music education, ethnomusicology as well as in the music industries. The handbook falls into six parts. Part I serves as an introduction to the rich variety of subject matter the reader can expect to encounter in the handbook as a whole. Part II focuses on what might be termed the more traditional strand of feminist musicology – research which highlights the work of historical and/or neglected composers. Part III explores topics concerned with feminist aesthetics and music creation and Part IV focuses on questions addressing the performance and reception of music and musicians. The narrative of the handbook shifts in Part V to focus on opportunities and leadership in the music professions from a Western perspective. The final section of the handbook (Part VI) provides new frames of context for women’s positions as workers, educators, patrons, activists and promoters of music. This is a key reference work for advanced undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers in music and gender.
