Book Low Authority Control of Flexible Spacecraft Via Numerical Optimization

Download or read book Low Authority Control of Flexible Spacecraft Via Numerical Optimization written by G. Schulz and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the design of low authority controllers for attitude control of flexible spacecraft a new method based on numerical optimization is presented. Thereby a dominant criterion to be optimized is determined, and the design requirements are formulated as constraints. Two different criteria are investigated: first a dissipation energy criterion is maximized and second a control energy criterion is minimized. The method is applied for attitude controller design of two models, the Drapper Model No. 1 and the Purdue Model. The first represents a flexible tetrahedral truss structure while the latter can be considered as model of a solar power satellite. Damping requirements for these models are formulated as design objectives and the controllers are determined using the proposed method. The achieved results show that due to the now existing efficient optimization software, controller design via numerical optimization is an useful and flexible tool for system design. This flexibility arises from the fact that arbitrary design criteria can be implemented. (Author).

Book Flexible Spacecraft Dynamics Control and Guidance

Download or read book Flexible Spacecraft Dynamics Control and Guidance written by Leonardo Mazzini and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-27 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an up-to-date compendium on spacecraft attitude and orbit control (AOC) that offers a systematic and complete treatment of the subject with the aim of imparting the theoretical and practical knowledge that is required by designers, engineers, and researchers. After an introduction on the kinematics of the flexible and agile space vehicles, the modern architecture and functions of an AOC system are described and the main AOC modes reviewed with possible design solutions and examples. The dynamics of the flexible body in space are then considered using an original Lagrangian approach suitable for the control applications of large space flexible structures. Subsequent chapters address optimal control theory, attitude control methods, and orbit control applications, including the optimal orbital transfer with finite and infinite thrust. The theory is integrated with a description of current propulsion systems, with the focus especially on the new electric propulsion systems and state of the art sensors and actuators.

Book Modeling and Optimization in Space Engineering

Download or read book Modeling and Optimization in Space Engineering written by Giorgio Fasano and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-23 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a selection of advanced case studies that address a substantial range of issues and challenges arising in space engineering. The contributing authors are well-recognized researchers and practitioners in space engineering and in applied optimization. The key mathematical modeling and numerical solution aspects of each application case study are presented in sufficient detail. Classic and more recent space engineering problems – including cargo accommodation and object placement, flight control of satellites, integrated design and trajectory optimization, interplanetary transfers with deep space manoeuvres, low energy transfers, magnetic cleanliness modeling, propulsion system design, sensor system placement, systems engineering, space traffic logistics, and trajectory optimization – are discussed. Novel points of view related to computational global optimization and optimal control, and to multidisciplinary design optimization are also given proper emphasis. A particular attention is paid also to scenarios expected in the context of future interplanetary explorations. Modeling and Optimization in Space Engineering will benefit researchers and practitioners working on space engineering applications. Academics, graduate and post-graduate students in the fields of aerospace and other engineering, applied mathematics, operations research and optimal control will also find the book useful, since it discusses a range of advanced model development and solution techniques and tools in the context of real-world applications and new challenges.

Book Spacecraft Attitude Control

Download or read book Spacecraft Attitude Control written by Chuang Liu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2022-01-31 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spacecraft Attitude Control: A Linear Matrix Inequality Approach solves problemsfor spacecraft attitude control systems using convex optimization and, specifi cally, through a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. High-precision pointing and improvedrobustness in the face of external disturbances and other uncertainties are requirementsfor the current generation of spacecraft. This book presents an LMI approach to spacecraftattitude control and shows that all uncertainties in the maneuvering process can besolved numerically. It explains how a model-like state space can be developed through amathematical presentation of attitude control systems, allowing the controller in question tobe applied universally. The authors describe a wide variety of novel and robust controllers, applicable both to spacecraft attitude control and easily extendable to second-ordersystems. Spacecraft Attitude Control provides its readers with an accessible introductionto spacecraft attitude control and robust systems, giving an extensive survey of currentresearch and helping researchers improve robust control performance. - Considers the control requirements of modern spacecraft - Presents rigid and flexible spacecraft control systems with inherent uncertainties mathematically, leading to a model-like state space - Develops a variety of novel and robust controllers directly applicable to spacecraft control as well as extendable to other second-order systems - Includes a systematic survey of recent research in spacecraft attitude control
