Book The Body Is Not an Apology

Download or read book The Body Is Not an Apology written by Sonya Renee Taylor and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2018-02-13 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Body Is Not an Apology The Power of Radical Self-Love Against a global backdrop of war, social upheaval, and personal despair, there is a growing sense of urgency to challenge the systems of oppression that dehumanize bodies and strip us of our shared humanity. Rather than feel helpless in the face of oppression, world-renowned activist, performance poet, and author Sonya Renee Taylor teaches us how to turn to the power of radical self-love in her new book, The Body Is Not an Apology. Radical self-love is the guiding framework that transforms the learned self-hatred of our bodies and the prejudices we have about other people's bodies into a vision of compassion, equity, and justice. In a revolutionary departure from the corporate self-help and body-positivity movement, Taylor forges the inextricable bond between radical self-love and social justice. The first step is recognizing that we have all been indoctrinated into a system of body shame that profits off of our self-hatred. When we ask ourselves, "Who benefits from our collective shame?" we can begin to make the distinction between the messages we are receiving about our bodies or other bodies and the truth. This book moves us beyond our all-too-often hidden lives, where we are easily encouraged to forget that we are whole humans having whole human experiences in our bodies alongside others. Radical self-love encourages us to embark on a personal journey of transformation with thoughtful reflection on the origins of our minds and bodies as a source of strength. In doing this, we not only learn to reject negative messages about ourselves but begin to thwart the very power structures that uphold them. Systems of oppression thrive off of our inability to make peace with bodies and difference. Radical self-love not only dismantles shame and self-loathing in us but has the power to dismantle global systems of injustice-because when we make peace with our bodies, only then do we have the capacity to truly make peace with the bodies of others

Book Your Body Is Not an Apology Workbook

Download or read book Your Body Is Not an Apology Workbook written by Sonya Renee Taylor and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the New York Times bestseller The Body Is Not an Apology, this is an action guide to help readers practice the art of radical self-love both for themselves and to transform our society. Readers of The Body Is Not an Apology have been clamoring for guidance on how to do the work of radical self-love. After crowdsourcing her community, Sonya Renee Taylor found her readers wanted more concrete ideas on how to apply this work in their everyday lives. Your Body Is Not an Apology Workbook is the action guide that gives them tools and structured frameworks they can begin using immediately to deepen their radical self-love journey—such as Taylor's four pillars of practice, which help readers dismantle body shame and give them access to a lifestyle rooted in love. Taylor guides readers to move beyond theory and into doing and being radical self-love change agents in the world. “In this book, you will be asked to draw, color, doodle, talk to friends, take risks, and perhaps step outside of what feels like your natural gifts and talents,” Taylor writes. “I encourage you to release the need to be ‘good' at what you are doing and instead strive to be authentic. Perfection is the enemy of radical self-love because it is an impossible illusion. When the voice of perfectionism chimes in, take a deep breath, remember that the work is about the process, not about the product, and give yourself permission to be fabulously unapologetically imperfect.”

Book God Sex and Your Marriage

Download or read book God Sex and Your Marriage written by Juli Slattery and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2022-06-07 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christian books talk about sexual issues within broader works on marriage, but few resources comprehensively and biblically guide couples specifically on sexual intimacy. God, Sex, and Your Marriage challenges the common assumptions couples have about sexuality and presents the richer biblical narrative of sex as a metaphor of God’s covenant love. Dr. Juli Slattery applies that biblical framework to the practical challenges in sexual intimacy. Godly sexuality extends far beyond sexual purity and calls us to sexual integrity. God invites every couple to view their sexual relationship, including their greatest struggles, as an avenue to learn about the nature of His covenant love. It’s God desire to make us more like Himself and sex within marriage is often a powerful training ground for godly character. That desire gives purpose and context to addressing pornography, healing from past wounds, sexual incompatibility, pursuing pleasure together, and forgiveness.

Book Proverbs

  • Author : Stephen Kaung
  • Publisher : Christian Fellowship Publishers
  • Release : 2021-04-22
  • ISBN : 1680621068
  • Pages : 193 pages

Download or read book Proverbs written by Stephen Kaung and published by Christian Fellowship Publishers. This book was released on 2021-04-22 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Wisdom hath built her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars” of support. So declared the book of Proverbs (9:1), whose author was Solomon, the wise King of Israel. Significantly, in this book’s first part Solomon, as the above passage intimates, is found setting forth wisdom as personified; which is to say, that he presents wisdom as a living, active person. And given the symbolistic or typological connection between much of the Bible’s Old Testament content and that of the New Testament, we are on solid ground to infer from this presentation that wisdom personified here is none other than God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ is the wisdom of God manifested from heaven on earth by the divine act of the Incarnation. And like Solomon of old who, through the wisdom granted to him from heaven, built the magnificent physical house of God—the temple in Jerusalem; just so, the “greater than Solomon”—even Christ himself (Matthew 12:42c ASV)—is today continuing to build God’s spiritual house, which is the church, the body of Christ. And the material the Lord uses to build God’s spiritual house is the sevenfold character of the Christ-life that is resident within every member of His church. And according to one’s understanding of the book of Proverbs, the Seven Pillars of Wisdom alluded to in its chapter 9 can symbolically represent the seven different traits, attributes or features of Christ’s noble character which can be found expressed throughout the many sayings appearing in this book of wisdom: Righteousness, Diligence, Love, Lowliness, Graciousness, Discipline, and Truthfulness. Thus, Wisdom Personified seeks to progressively develop in us His followers these seven distinct traits of His character. And once He has established these in our lives, He shall be able to complete the building for His Father of that dwelling place of rest and peace which God has longed to have among His people. In order for this to be accomplished in us, however, we will need to submit ourselves to Christ totally and allow His Spirit who indwells us to develop and firmly establish these various character-traits in us so that Christ’s virtuous character may be manifested through us as a testimony to the world and for touching those in need of moral and spiritual help. This is the Lord’s purpose for us His people. Hence, may we so give our lives over to Christ that the Holy Spirit shall have complete freedom to accomplish this in and through us. And thus, we shall be usable in the Lord’s hands to fulfill God’s will and purpose on the earth and bring Him much glory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As seen on The TODAY Show! “A godsend to anyone searching for, but struggling to find, true love in their lives.” —Kristin Neff, PhD, author of Self-Compassion "Empowering and compassionate, and its lessons are universal." —Publishers Weekly Real love starts with you. In order to attract a life partner and build a healthy intimate relationship, you must first become a good partner to yourself. This book offers twenty invaluable lessons that will help you explore and commit to your own emotional and psychological well-being so you can be ready, resilient, and confident in love. Many of us enter into romantic relationships full of expectation and hope, only to be sorely disappointed by the realization that the partner we’ve selected is a flawed human being with their own neuroses, history, and desires. Most relationships end because one or both people haven’t done the internal work necessary to develop self-awareness and take responsibility for their own experiences. We’ve all heard “You can’t love anyone unless you love yourself,” but amid life’s distractions and the myth of perfect, romantic love, how exactly do you do that? In Loving Bravely, psychologist, professor and relationship expert Alexandra H. Solomon introduces the idea of relational self-awareness, encouraging you to explore your personal history to gain an understanding of your own relational patterns, as well as your strengths and weaknesses in relationships. By doing so, you’ll learn what relationships actually require, beyond the fairytale notions of romance. And by maintaining a steady but gentle focus on yourself, you’ll build the best possible foundation for making a loving connection. By understanding your past relationship experiences, cultivating a strong sense of self-awareness, and determining what it is you really want in a romantic partner—you’ll be ready to find the healthy, lasting love your heart desires.

Book Panic Disorder the Choice and Willpower to Survive

Download or read book Panic Disorder the Choice and Willpower to Survive written by Suf Supiani and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2015-06-08 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Happy survivor or unhappy survivoryour choice. We all have a limit to tolerance. We may think our capacity for tolerance is huge. However, our body has a different opinion and reacts to your troubles. This book was written in the hope to help people around the world facing stress in their life and to balance life so as to prevent panic disorder to ever happen. A cluttered mind is like a piece of onion. Over the years, even small, unresolved issues become layers, and if we do not make an effort to eliminate them fast, they linger. We need to peel them off consciously. The heart connects more strongly with the mind compared to a vivid eyesight. A diagnosis on your mental condition is not much different from a diagnosis on any other serious medical condition. Only through acceptance, the next step of procuring a better and happier life in a long or short period of time can this be achieved. By accepting who you are, you become free, and freedom is power. Be mindful that there is hope. You need to believe in yourself more than anyone else can. Never allow anyone to take your dreams away. It is important to identify the cycle that triggers the anxiety and panic attacks, especially the vicious ones. Upon identifying, break it and change the cycle. In other words, the diagnosis may actually turn out to be the best thing that happened to you! While only patients can actually know how it feels, caregivers should continuously believe in and focus on the strengths of the patient. If you can raise their self-esteem with words of encouragement and touches of love, your support becomes invaluable.
