Book excerpt: I've always been the good girl. A squeaky clean reputation. Heiress to my family's culinary empire. Doomed to forever date men who meet my father's impossibly high standards. I'd be a walking, talking cliché if not for the fact that I'm totally, irrevocably in love with my best friend. To everyone else, Owen Harvey is the quintessential bad boy. To me, he's the other half of my soul. The grumpy tattoo artist who inks my skin in the late night hours; who gives me a safe place to hide when I'm worn to the bone from running a company that I don't even want. Owen is my kryptonite. Sexy and gruff, every time he looks my way, I feel myself falling even harder. But he can never be mine. Which is why I'm standing before him now, crushing both my heart and his, and watching everything we've built burn to ash. I've always been the good girl. Until now. LOVE ME TOMORROW is a steamy friends-to-lovers romance with major mutual pining. It's the third and final book in the highly anticipated series, Put A Ring On It, and can be read as a standalone.

Book Tomorrow Will Be Different

Download or read book Tomorrow Will Be Different written by Sarah McBride and published by Crown. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A brave, powerful memoir” (People) that will change the way we look at identity and equality in this country, from the activist elected as the first openly transgender state senator in U.S. history “The energy and vigor Sarah has brought to the fight for equality is ever present in this book.”—Vice President Kamala Harris “If you’re living your own internal struggle, this book can help you find a way to live authentically, fully, and freely. . . . Let it show that we are all created equal and entitled to be treated with dignity and respect.”—President Joe Biden, from the foreword Before she became the first transgender person to speak at a national political convention in 2016 at the age of twenty-six, Sarah McBride struggled with the decision to come out—not just to her family but to the students of American University, where she was serving as student body president. She’d known she was a girl from her earliest memories, but it wasn’t until the Facebook post announcing her truth went viral that she realized just how much impact her story could have on the country. Four years later, McBride was one of the nation’s most prominent transgender activists, walking the halls of the White House, advocating inclusive legislation, and addressing the country in the midst of a heated presidential election. She had also found her first love and future husband, Andy, a trans man and fellow activist, who complemented her in every way . . . until cancer tragically intervened. Informative, heartbreaking, and profoundly empowering, Tomorrow Will Be Different is McBride’s story of love and loss and a powerful entry point into the LGBTQ community’s battle for equal rights and what it means to be openly transgender. From issues like bathroom access to health care to gender in America, McBride weaves the important political and cultural milestones into a personal journey that will open hearts and change minds. As McBride urges: “We must never be a country that says there’s only one way to love, only one way to look, and only one way to live.” The fight for equality and freedom has only just begun.

Book On Fidelity Or Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow

Download or read book On Fidelity Or Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow written by Jeremy Fernando and published by Atropos Press. This book was released on 2014-05-01 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jeremy Fernando's prose - or perhaps we should say, poetry - builds effortlessly on the traces of deconstructive thought, feminist insights, and transgressive English literature. Being itself only hesitantly devoted to the conventions of academic writing, Fernando manages to show that faith and loyalty, but also doubt and disloyalty, are always co-operative in what is often too hastily expressed with the simple phrase "I love you." In doing so, Fernando's writing captures the essentially beautiful aspect of the hopeful awaiting and the necessary blindness that love, as well as such a writing, engenders, as it seeks to open up to the mysteries of human existence and even of existence as such. This work then, like his others, contains wonderful admissions of affection to the work of Derrida, Cixous, Agamben, Barthes, Bataille, and various identifiable and unidentifiable others, strung together in what finally constitutes a riveting read.

Book Carole King s Tapestry

    Book Details:

  • Pages : 112 pages

Download or read book Carole King s Tapestry written by Loren Glass and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2021-03-11 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carole King's Tapestry is both an anthemic embodiment of second-wave feminism and an apotheosis of the Laurel Canyon singer-songwriter sound and scene. And these two elements of the album's historic significance are closely related insofar as the professional autonomy of the singer-songwriter is an expression of the freedom and independence women of King's generation sought as the turbulent sixties came to a close. Aligning King's own development from girl to woman with the larger shift in the music industry from teen-oriented singles by girl groups to albums by adult-oriented singer-songwriters, this volume situates Tapestry both within King's original vision as the third in a trilogy (preceded by Now That Everything's Been Said and Writer) and as a watershed in musical and cultural history, challenging the male dominance of the music and entertainment industries and laying the groundwork for female dominated genres such as women's music and Riot Grrrl punk.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Then He Kissed Me, He's A Rebel, Chains, Stop! In the Name of Love all these songs capture the spirit of an era and an image of "girlhood" in post-World War II America that still reverberates today. While there were over 1500 girl groups recorded in the '60s--including key hitmakers like the Ronettes, the Supremes, and the Shirelles - studies of girl-group music that address race, gender, class, and sexuality have only just begun to appear. Warwick is the first writer to address '60s girl group music from the perspective of its most significant audience--teenage girls--drawing on current research in psychology and sociology to explore the important place of this repertoire in the emotional development of young girls of the baby boom generation. Girl Groups, Girl Culture stands as a landmark study of this important pop music and cultural phenomenon. It promises to be a classic work in American musicology and cultural studies.

Book The Words and Music of Carole King

Download or read book The Words and Music of Carole King written by James E. Perone and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2006-10-30 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This long overdue examination of Carole King offers her legions of fans the chance to see how her work has developed over time, understand what her music means to other contemporary performers, and grasp its significance in American music at large. Name a Carole King song. Anyone who's been a fan of popular music over the past 45 years should be able to do it with ease. Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?, Take Good Care Of My Baby, The Locomotion, One Fine Day, Up On The Roof, A Natural Woman, I Feel The Earth Move, Smackwater Jack, It's Too Late, So Far Away, You've Got A Friend. Few writers can claim such a formidable catalogue. Fewer still can with justice claim to have spoken for a generation. After collaborating with Paul Simon in high school and composing hits for The Shirelles; Aretha Franklin; The Monkees; Blood, Sweat & Tears; and other artists throughout the 1960s, Carole King launched herself into the spotlight with the 1971 album Tapestry. Tapestry sold over 22 million copies, and was one of the most important feminist statements of the day, not just because of the words or music, but because King maintained almost total control over her product. Carole King has continued composing and performing breakthrough work since Tapestry, though over the past 15 years audiences are more likely to have heard her music in films such as One True Thing, You've Got Mail, and A League of Their Own. In 1988, the National Academy of Songwriters presented King and her one-time husband and collaborator Gerry Goffin with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Goffin and King were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as non-performers in 1990. Carole King was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1986. Although Tapestry still stands as King's masterpiece, she recorded many other albums, including Fantasy, Colour of Your Dreams, City Streets, Pearls, Wrap Around Joy, Touch the Sky, Simple Things, Thoroughbred, Love Makes the World, Welcome Home, and Really Rosie. All of these are discussed in the course of this volume, as are songs covered and performed by other artists.
