Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wedding. A trip to Spain. The most infuriating man. And three days of pretending. Or in other words, a plan that will never work. Catalina Martín, finally, not single. Her family is happy to announce that she will bring her American boyfriend to her sister's wedding. Everyone is invited to come and witness the most magical event of the year. That would certainly be tomorrow's headline in the local newspaper of the small Spanish town I came from. Or the epitaph on my tombstone, seeing the turn my life had taken in the span of a phone call. Four weeks wasn't a lot of time to find someone willing to cross the Atlantic-from NYC and all the way to Spain-for a wedding. Let alone, someone eager to play along with my charade. But that didn't mean I was desperate enough to bring the 6'4 blue eyed pain in my ass standing before me, Aaron Blackford. The man whose main occupation was making my blood boil had just offered himself to be my date. Right after inserting his nose in my business, calling me delusional, and calling himself my best option. See? Outrageous. Aggravating. Blood boiling. And much to my total despair, also right. Which left me with a surly and extra large dilemma in my hands. Was it worth the suffering to bring my colleague and bane of my existence as my fake boyfriend to my sister's wedding? Or was I better off coming clean and facing the consequences of my panic induced lie? Like my abuela would say, que dios nos pille confesados. The Spanish Love Deception is an enemies-to-lovers, fake-dating.

Download or read book Love Deception Life written by Animesh Pandey and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2018-02-22 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the title (Love Deception Life) itself exemplifies that the entire novel deals with the philosophy of life. It can be called as an autobiographical work but at the same time it carries myriad lofty concepts. The writer throughout the novel expresses his life’s experiences whether it is love, friendship, family or whatever came in his journey yet. He vividly described his childhood days, family issues, college life and of course several other incidence of his social life. Perhaps, coping with the life’s complexities at such a tender age compelled the writer to convert his emotions into words, resulting in a beautiful piece of work. Which is why the novel depicts the reality of life - the ugly truth. Nevertheless, the ideas and support of his family, friends and of course the Almighty bestowed him to bring up the contented work. After reading the novel, a reader can find several facts of life- the realism (or Pragmatism). One can relate the story to one’s own life and its incidence or experiences. Simultaneously, a reader can grasp the literal truths of life. The entire novel is helpful in guiding a typical reader to be in the real world rather than in virtual world. Furthermore, this book is a better way to lessen the stereotypes. The novel ends with an optimistic view leading the reader to an affirmative outlook. No doubt the entire book is quite enthralling and fun to read.

Download or read book The Philosophy of Ang Lee written by Robert Arp and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2013-04-11 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ang Lee (b. 1954) has emerged as one of cinema's most versatile, critically acclaimed, and popular directors. Known for his ability to transcend cultural and stylistic boundaries, Lee has built a diverse oeuvre that includes films about culture clashes and globalization (Eat Drink Man Woman, 1994, and The Wedding Banquet, 1993), a period drama (Sense and Sensibility, 1995), a martial arts epic (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, 2000), a comic book action movie (Hulk, 2003), and an American western (Brokeback Mountain, 2005). The Philosophy of Ang Lee draws from both Eastern and Western philosophical traditions to examine the director's works. The first section focuses on Taoist, Confucian, and Buddhist themes in his Chinese-language films, and the second examines Western philosophies in his English-language films; but the volume ultimately explores how Lee negotiates all of these traditions, strategically selecting from each in order to creatively address key issues. With interest in this filmmaker and his work increasing around the release of his 3-D magical adventure The Life of Pi (2012), The Philosophy of Ang Lee serves as a timely investigation of the groundbreaking auteur and the many complex philosophical themes that he explores through the medium of motion pictures.

Download or read book The Message of the Church written by Don Carson and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2013-04-23 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible begins and ends with God dwelling with his people, from Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, to the great multitude in the New Jerusalem in the book of Revelation. At each step, God gathered his people together, to speak to them, hear from them, and change them to be more like him. God assembling his people, whom he loves, is what the Bible calls 'church'. The church should aspire to be a group of vibrant, loving, risk-everything people who are passionately committed to living out the values of God's Word and looking forward to the new creation. Churches and their pastors and leaders need to hear what the Bible says about who they are and what they are to do. Chris Green takes 'the message of the church' to mean, first, that the church has a message, which is that God has saved his people through Christ; second, that the church is the created and saved result of that message; and third, that the church is a message, which is that he has saved broken people like us, and by belonging to his people we are trying to respond to him in the ways he requires. His stimulating and insightful exposition begins with a survey of the church 'from eternity, to Eden, to exodus, to exile, to eternity', and then focuses on various dimensions of the church's life and ministry, including its worship, unity, maturity, servants, gifts, holiness, boundaries and future.

Download or read book Either Or written by Søren Kierkegaard and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2004-07-01 with total page 895 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Either/Or, using the voices of two characters - the aesthetic young man of part one, called simply 'A', and the ethical Judge Vilhelm of the second section - Kierkegaard reflects upon the search for a meaningful existence, contemplating subjects as diverse as Mozart, drama, boredom, and, in the famous Seducer's Diary, the cynical seduction and ultimate rejection of a young, beautiful woman. A masterpiece of duality, Either/Or is a brilliant exploration of the conflict between the aesthetic and the ethical - both meditating ironically and seductively upon Epicurean pleasures, and eloquently expounding the noble virtues of a morally upstanding life.

Download or read book Sonnet written by Rinaldina Russell and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2017-04-19 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By their very nature, sonnets allow quick glimpses into the lives of individuals and their surroundings. They can reveal what people loved, hated, idealized, and found ridiculous or grotesqueand Italian sonnets in particular exhibit a remarkably wide range of content and form. Rinaldina Russell, a scholar of Italian medieval and Renaissance literature and of women studies, leads you on a glorious exploration of medieval and Renaissance verse in Sonnet. Focusing strictly on Italy, she explains that sonnet writing was not the purview of a selected group of people. From the sonnets appearance in the first half of the thirteenth century through the Renaissance and on to the baroque age, writing sonnets was an activity people at all levels of society and of all intellectual and literary backgrounds practiced. She translates some of Italys most important, interesting, and underappreciated sonnets, conveying the meaning and structure of thought as faithfully as possible. Themes vary from political and military arguments to expressions of love and sexual needs, from atheistic and cynical views on mans nature and destiny, to a celebration of life and the divine. She also provides commentary to relate what translations do not convey, including the rhythmic and verbal effects of the Italian text and its topical allusions.

Download or read book Living Poetically written by Sylvia Walsh and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2012-04-30 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living Poetically is the first book to focus primarily on Kierkegaard's existential aesthetics as opposed to traditional aesthetic features of his writings such as the use of pseudonyms, literary techniques and figures, and literary criticism. Living Poetically traces the development of the concept of the poetic in Kierkegaard's writings as that concept is worked out in an ethical-religious perspective in contrast to the aesthetics of early German romanticism and Hegelian idealism. Sylvia Walsh seeks to elucidate what it means, in Kierkegaard's view, to be an authentic poet in the form of a poetic writer and to clarify his own role as a Christian poet and writer as he understood it. Walsh shows that, in spite of strong criticisms made of the poetic in some of his writings, Kierkegaard maintained a fundamentally positive understanding of the poetic as an essential ingredient in ethical and religious forms of life. Walsh thus reclaims Kierkegaard as a poetic thinker and writer from those who would interpret him as an ironic practitioner of an aestheticism devoid of and detached from the ethical-religious as well as from those who view him as rejecting the poetic and aesthetic on ethical or religious grounds. Viewing contemporary postmodern feminism and deconstruction as advocating a romantic mode of living poetically, Walsh concludes with a feminist reading of Kierkegaard that affirms both individuality and relatedness, commonalities and differences between the self and others, men and women, for the fashioning of an authentic mode of living poetically in the present age.
Download or read book Tracing the Literary and Symbolic Significance of the Messenger through History written by Mohan Gopinath and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-11-20 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a unique study of how the role of ‘the messenger’ has changed throughout history, starting from ancient times and ending with the person’s role today. The chapters include an analysis of the personal characteristics required by a messenger, the dangers they often have to face, especially in troubled times, and how they have the power to change the course of history because of their functions. The book analyses various types of messengers who were, and are still, significant, and ends by looking at how the role will continue to develop and change, taking technological advances into account. The book, in short, is unusual, captivating and will be of interest to an informed general readership and academics of various disciplines. Of particular interest will be the analysis the book provides of the messengers we send into space in search of life, and the potential messengers who will visit our planet in the future.
