If a reader is, say, a 220-pound man who wants to become a muscular 180-pounder, he then uses The Lean Muscle Diet's formula to eat and train to sustain a 180-pound body. The transformation begins immediately, and the results last for life. Lou Schuler, who has sold more than one million copies of his fitness books worldwide, and Alan Aragon, nutrition advisor to Men's Health, have created an eating and "metabolically expensive" exercise plan designed to melt fat while building muscle. Download or read book Food Power Politics written by Bobby J. Smith II and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2023-08-29 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book unearths a food story buried deep within the soil of American civil rights history. Drawing on archival research, interviews, and oral histories, Bobby J. Smith II re-examines the Mississippi civil rights movement as a period when activists expanded the meaning of civil rights to address food as integral to sociopolitical and economic conditions. For decades, white economic and political actors used food as a weapon against Black sharecropping communities in the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta, but members of these communities collaborated with activists to transform food into a tool of resistance. Today, Black youth are building a food justice movement in the Delta to continue this story, grappling with inequalities that continue to shape their lives. Drawing on multiple disciplines including critical food studies, Black studies, history, sociology, and southern studies, Smith makes critical connections between civil rights activism and present-day food justice activism in Black communities, revealing how power struggles over food empower them to envision Black food futures in which communities have the full autonomy and capacity to imagine, design, create, and sustain a self-sufficient local food system.

Download or read book Warm Beer Lousy Food written by John S. Columbia and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-12 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The line began forming after eight o'clock. Sal, short and heavy-set, kept everyone busy. Neat, in a white shirt and sports jacket, with his grey fedora cocked to the side, his crooked grin made you smile. Without warning the heavy door would swing open and the waiters would come outside to join him. They were dressed in pajamas or prison garb, with hats and horns, and were there to warm up the crowd. Some in line expected this, others were shocked. The pink polka dot building should have been a warning. Complete strangers in line became chummy, exchanging stories they had heard; toilet seat covers to serve drinks on, microphones in the ladies room, toilet paper for napkins. Most had brought their friends there to be roasted. The line of people varied in age. They all dressed casually because they'd heard you could get a pie in the face or a squirt in the eye. The club's routines were blue in color, but harmless. If you were lucky you might see a "Balls for the Queen" or a "Singing beer." The price was always right for a good time and Warm Beer and Lousy Food was the place to be.
Download or read book Harbors of the Moon written by John Hill and published by Hillcrest Publishing Group. This book was released on 2015-12-15 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Depraved and insane. Destitute and frantic. Unwholesome and shattered. Characteristics not for the faint of heart, but integral to the vivid portrayals of the marginalized populations living on the fringe of society. Harbors of the Moon's stories are unconcerned with political correctness, beginning with an look at the comings and goings of a seedy motel and culminating with a minimum-wage laborer's stark observations of his repellent bosses. In between, you'll find tales of the oddballs living in American subculture: a Sicilian father ruminating on his Sugar Daughter's failed engagement, while a tacky nightclub regular settles down with a suspiciously effeminate momma's boy, to name a few. Connecting them all is a desperate need for something--human connection, however unsavory, or even a sense of meaning in a seemingly absurd world. Harbors of the Moon offers a stunning examination of the authentic human experience, in a style reminiscent of literary great Charles Bukowski.
