Book Lost Pirate Treasures of St Croix

Download or read book Lost Pirate Treasures of St Croix written by John A. Boyd and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-06-03 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research of John A. Boyd tracks all known pirate activity on the island of St. Croix. Many pirates brought treasure to the island as did smugglers and merchants. It is well documented that Captain James Martel was killed on the island and half of his fortune lost to time so he certainly rates a Chapter. Owen Lloyd took the treasure of Nuestra Senora de Guadelupe. Part of Lloyd's treasure was buried on the island and this stash became his bank until he was murdered in Christiansted. His story has been retold for centuries as part of Robert Luis Stevenson's book, Treasure Island. Only a small amount of this treasure remains on St. Croix so his chapter is small. By far the biggest fortune that probably remains hidden on St. Croix is the vast amount of wealth amassed by Jean La Vasseur while Governor of Tortuga. During his reign, 1640 to 1652, he took a minimum of ten percent of all of the prizes captured by the Buccaneers of Tortuga referred to as the Brethren of the Coast. He also collected taxes on all imports to the island. However, he cheated his partner in this criminal empire, Governor Phillippe de Lonvillers dePoincy of St. Croix, by keeping everything for himself. De Poincy retaliated by conquering Tortuga and claiming the Fortune of La Vasseur as his own. After de Poincy's military conquest of Tortuga, this treasure is also lost to time. The research for this book brings that fortune to St. Croix where it is probably still well hidden.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than two centuries ago, compelling evidence of buried treasure was found on Nova Scotia's Oak Island. Since then, extensive engineering works have been discovered and mysterious objects unearthed in and around the island's "Money Pit." The ongoing search has been featured on a long-running popular television series, but to this day, the island guards its secrets. In this book, historian John Bell presents all the competing theories — about who buried treasure on the island and how the complex structures in the Money Pit that have kept treasure hunters at bay were created. Is the island the former settlement of pre-Columbian Vikings? The location of a lost pirate treasure or royal treasures from England? The hiding spot for rogue captains of Spanish treasure ships? John Bell presents each theory in turn. Bell also provides a detailed illustration of the mysterious work that was done on the island prior to the discovery of the Money Pit in 1795. The illustration shows each element of the Pit's design as it was first built — including elaborate flood tunnels, a cave-in shaft, and more. This book offers a fascinating opportunity to explore many centuries of world history from the perspective of one of the greatest mysteries of all time. The extensive visuals showcase what treasures could have been hidden, and illustrate the lives of the adventurers, renegades, pirates, politicians, and paranormal entities that might be responsible for this puzzle.

Book X Doesn t Mark the Spot

Download or read book X Doesn t Mark the Spot written by Ed Butts and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2008-08-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anyone who has fantasized about becoming fabulously rich overnight can relate to this collection of treasure hunt stories — tales of buried pirate gold, of hidden outlaw loot, of wrecked ships loaded with valuable coins and jewels, and of “lost” gold mines. Some of the stories are tall tales based on little evidence. Many a dreamer wasted money, energy, and perhaps even a lifetime chasing after a pot of gold that did not exist. But some hidden treasures are real, even if the stories about them are exaggerated. Many of the stories came down to us from an age in which pirates were said to be in league with the devil and supposedly used black magic to protect their hidden plunder. Ed Butts’s tales of adventure, of shattered hopes, and, occasionally, of dreams come true expose the greed and the challenges that motivated the searchers. A few of them got lucky. But X didn’t mark the spot for most of these adventurers — and that means undiscovered treasures still lie ready to ignite the imagination.

Book Memoirs of Captain Sam Bellamy

Download or read book Memoirs of Captain Sam Bellamy written by John A. Boyd and published by . This book was released on 2015-10-10 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a story about three pirate captains who worked together during the Golden Age of Piracy. The tale of Captain Paulsgrave Williams is a shared story with that of Captain Samuel Bellamy and is largely covered in this book. Their partner in crime, Olivier Levasseur, was perhaps the most successful pirates in the Golden Age of Piracy if the estimate of his wealth includes all of his Caribbean and African exploits. Despite their partnership, Levasseur and Williams never made the Forbes' list of the Richest Caribbean Pirates while Bellamy did. The reason of course is simple. Sam Bellamy's ship, the Whydah, was wrecked and the vast amount of wealth was documented at trials of the survivors. There is little documentation of the wealth accumulated by Levasseur and Williams

Explore supernatural history that abounds and visit ghost towns, lost Native American villages, forgotten mines, and valuable gem discoveries. Pirates were welcome, and when they visited, the legends suggest that they left their loot behind. Begin your search in Rhode Island where Captain Kidd is said to have buried coins at the northern tip of Sandy Point. (Coins from his era have been found here!) Seek pirate treasure said to be hidden in Brooklyn, Windham County, Connecticut (you'd have to look out for the headless horseman who was killed for the gold in question). Pirate treasure is said to be buried on Money Hill in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. A large amount of British gold and silver was discovered in 1973 and thousands of coins have been found dating from the late 18th century. But beware, black dog guardians, wildmen, and pirate ghosts protect these treasures from ever being found. Yo Ho.
