Book Lost Texas Treasure Sunken Ships Rawhide Maps and Buried Plunder

Download or read book Lost Texas Treasure Sunken Ships Rawhide Maps and Buried Plunder written by W. Craig Gaines and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2022-07 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Track pirate gold and misplaced riches across 168 counties in this comprehensive guide to the lost treasures of Texas. Countless fortunes have disappeared into the vast expanse of the Lone Star State. The history of the coast is cluttered with shipwrecks like that of the 1554 Spanish fleet. Even when pirates such as Jean Laffite managed to get their ill-gotten gains ashore, their loot vanished just as completely as if it had sunk beneath the waves. Entire mines, including the ventures of Jim Bowie and San Saba Presidio, have been reclaimed by the earth. The unmarked caches of bandits like Jesse James and Pancho Villa still bedevil the dreams of treasure seekers today. W. Craig Gaines reveals what has been lost, what has been found and what remains to be recovered.

Book Lost Mines and Buried Treasures of the West

Download or read book Lost Mines and Buried Treasures of the West written by Thomas Probert and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This large, easy-to-use volume lists the works of more than eleven hundred different authors, covering thousands of stories of lost mines and buried treasures supposedly located in fifteen Western and Southwestern states and in Mexico. In addition to being a boon to those adventurers who are tempted to search for lost mines and buried treasures, it will be an important basic research tool for historians, geologists, geographers, anthropologists, archaeologists, and folklorists, and it will be useful in identifying the man treasure hoards and mining claims all the way from the Lost Adams Diggings in Arizona to the Stagecoach in Wyoming. The information given in this important bibliography was acquired through perusal of an unusually large number of books, newspapers, magazines, unpublished manuscripts, deposits in private and public libraries, holdings of various historical foundations, and governmental records and archives. The task took Mr. Probert three full years of steady, patient work. Many of these stories of lost mines and buried treasures have resulted in the discovery of some that are rarely acknowledged, largely because, as Mr. Probert points out, "those who have been so fortunate as to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow have deemed it wiser and much safer to keep their own counsel" -- Book jacket.

Book excerpt: ABOUT THE AUTHOR Lois Dahlberg was born July 2, 1916 to Ernest Fowler and Pearl (Posey) Harris in Courtenay, North Dakota, and was raised in Minnesota. Since 1942 she has lived in the Tacoma, Washington, area, where she completed her education, graduating from the first Certified Dental Assistant class held at Tacoma Vocational-Technical College in 1958. Lois loves people, especially the little ones. Her greatest wish, she confided, is to have a close, individual relationship with each one of her descendants. After being widowed in 1994, Lois’s writing pursuit has taken precedence over other hobbies and interests. She calls herself a late bloomer and can still be found participating in creative writing classes. Much of this writer’s work has been published in magazines, newspapers, and anthologies. She has taught genealogy classes and still has great interest in family history, nonfiction, and poetry. With her husband of 60 years, R. Russell Dahlberg, she raised a successful family of four children: Ralph, Gordon, and Lyle Dahlberg, and Annette Dahlberg Curran. Her descendants, many of whom are being educated in Washington, California, Idaho, Utah, Oregon, and Arizona, now number 75. This includes two great-great grandchildren living in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Lois is proud to be a member of the International Society of Poets, the Tacoma Writers Club, Friends of the Parkland/Spanaway Library, and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Book excerpt: Stories of lost and haunted treasure sites are intermingled through three states in southern New England: Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Explore supernatural history that abounds and visit ghost towns, lost Native American villages, forgotten mines, and valuable gem discoveries. Pirates were welcome, and when they visited, the legends suggest that they left their loot behind. Begin your search in Rhode Island where Captain Kidd is said to have buried coins at the northern tip of Sandy Point. (Coins from his era have been found here!) Seek pirate treasure said to be hidden in Brooklyn, Windham County, Connecticut (you'd have to look out for the headless horseman who was killed for the gold in question). Pirate treasure is said to be buried on Money Hill in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. A large amount of British gold and silver was discovered in 1973 and thousands of coins have been found dating from the late 18th century. But beware, black dog guardians, wildmen, and pirate ghosts protect these treasures from ever being found. Yo Ho.
