Book Saberes con sabor

Download or read book Saberes con sabor written by Conxita Domènech and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-09-14 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Towards an Atlas of the History of Interpreting

Download or read book Towards an Atlas of the History of Interpreting written by Lucía Ruiz Rosendo and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2023-02-22 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aspiration of an Atlas is to cover the whole world, by compiling cartographical material representing territories from across the five continents. This book intends to contribute to that ideally comprehensive, yet always unfinished, Atlas with pieces gathered from all of the Earth’s regions. However, its focus is not so much of a geographical nature (although maps and geographical reflections are not absent in its pages), but of a historical-analytical one. As such, the Atlas engages in the historical analysis of interpreters (of both language and cultures) in multiple interpreting settings and places, including in zones which are less frequently studied in specialized literature, in different historical periods and at various scales. All the interpreters described in the book share the ability to speak two or more languages and to use them as vehicles; otherwise, their individual socio-professional statuses vary so much that there is no similarity between a Venetian dragoman in Istanbul and a prisoner of war, or between a locally-recruited interpreter and a missionary. Each contributor has approached the specific spatial and temporal dimensions of their subject as perceived through their different methodological lenses. This multifaceted perspective, which is expected to provide fertile soil for future interdisciplinary research, has been possible thanks to a balanced combination of scholars from History and from Translation and Interpreting Studies.

Book Criminology and Democratic Politics

Download or read book Criminology and Democratic Politics written by Tom Daems and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-30 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Criminology and Democratic Politics brings together a range of international leading experts to consider the relationship between criminology and democratic politics. How does criminology relate to democratic politics? What has been the impact of criminology on crime and justice? How can we make sense of the uses, non-uses, and abuses of criminology? Such questions are far from new, but in recent times they have moved to the centre of debate in criminology in different parts of the world. The chapters in Criminology and Democratic Politics aim to contribute to this global debate. Chapters cover a range of themes such as punishment, knowledge, and penal politics; crime, fear, and the media; democratic politics and the uses of criminological knowledge; and the public role of criminology. An accessible and compelling read, this book will appeal to students and scholars of criminology, sociology, and politics and all those interested in how criminology relates to democratic politics in modern times.

Book Tax and Robotics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Álvaro Falcón Pulido
  • Publisher : BRILL
  • Release : 2023-12-18
  • ISBN : 9004538518
  • Pages : 193 pages

Download or read book Tax and Robotics written by Álvaro Falcón Pulido and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-12-18 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are standing on the threshold of the robotic era, the fourth industrial revolution. The undeniable impact and consequences of robotics are already raising economic concerns, such as the loss of income tax revenue as robots gradually replace human workers, as well as legal doubts regarding the possible taxation of robots or their owners. Financial law must adapt to this new reality by answering several crucial questions. Should robots pay taxes? Can they? Do they have the ability to pay? Can they be considered entrepreneurs for VAT purposes? These are just some of the many issues that Dr. Álvaro Falcón Pulido lucidly and insightfully addresses in this fascinating new monographic work, which includes an exhaustive bibliography on the subject.
