Book excerpt: The twin cities of Laredo can stand as a beacon of wealth for some and a cauldron of despair to others. Ernesto Acosta, Los Zenetas top sicario, is currently caught somewhere in between. That dichotomy describes Ernesto Acosta's life almost perfectly. Acosta's early years were rife with pitfalls, from the death of his mother to the constant school problems. Even after his father was murdered, the streets became his refuge as an escape from his aunt's clutches. Ernesto found his calling early in life, willing to fight anyone, anywhere, and at any time. Why not, he was good at it, making sure who ever he fought never wanted to fight him again. His second calling was his willingness to learn, to adapt; taking tutelage from the drug gangs that ravaged to nation. He quickly adapted to the brutality that the cartels unleashed on a daily basis, inflicting new and innovative acts of terror on Los Zenetas enemies while expanding the legend of Ernesto Acosta. Somewhere along the way the complications start to mount. Acosta soon finds himself caught up in a war that he neither started, nor wanted. His boss, Victor 'Casper' Guzman, head of Los Zenetas cartel, has ordered Acosta to avenge the murder of his nephew. This sets of a series of assassination's that soon reveals a picture that threatens to tear Los Zenetas apart, pitting Acosta against his boss. Adding more fuel to the fire, while the American DEA start to dismantle Los Zenetas top lieutenants one at a time and the Mexican government threatens to send in the Army to stop the Cartel's violent outburst, Acosta discovers his boss might be responsible for his father's murder.Of course this was very hard for Acosta to fathom, but the clues keep mounting. With a new reality hitting Acosta squarely in the face in the form of a failed assassination attempt, he sets off on a quest to bring down Los Zenetas by any means necessary. Starting with the murder of Felix 'Tiny' Reyes, head of the Tijuana drug Cartel and Cesar Castro, head of the Gulf Cartel, Acosta exacts his revenge. His piece de resistance comes in the form of an assassination attempt on President Rivera, The President of Mexico. Tearing apart the fabric of society on both sides of the border has finally caught up with Los Zenetas and its boss, Casper. The Nation of Mexico comes to grips with the threat at its doorstep and the Los Zenetas Cartel becomes public enemy number 1. As the walls close in Acosta confronts Casper and his sister, Alicia. The final confrontation leads to a multitude of revelations that end in a blaze of gunfire. Will Ernesto Acosta survive or will he be just another criminal whose time ran out?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From “one of the greatest writers of this century,” a fantasy masterpiece about the aftermath of a marriage between a mortal prince and an elfin princess. —Arthur C. Clarke Before the fellowships and wardrobes and dire wolves . . . . . . there was the village of Erl and the Kingdom of Elfland. Considered formative to the development of the fairy tale and high fantasy subgenres, The King of Elfland's Daughter follows Alveric, who leaves home on a quest with a few basic instructions: locate the Princess Lirazel in Elfland, convince her to return to Erl and marry him, and together produce the first magical Lord of Erl. But what happens when a village gets exactly what it asked for? How does an elf learn to live as a human? Is love lost once, lost forever? The people of Erl are about to find out. Take a walk through the fields we know and see if you can spot the pale-blue peaks of the Elfland Mountains. Fans of J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, and Neil Gaiman will adore Lord Dunsany’s influential 1924 classic as much as those authors themselves did. “No amount of mere description can convey more than a fraction of Lord Dunsany's pervasive charm.” —H. P. Lovecraft “We find that he has but tranfigured with beauty the common sights of the world.” —William Butler Yeats “No one can understand modern fantasy without understanding its roots, and Lord Dunsany's work is immediately significant as well as enjoyable even today.” —Katharine Kerr “A fantasy novel in a class with the Tolkien books.”—L. Sprague de Camp

This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together a valuable collection of case studies and conceptual approaches that outline the present state of Amazonia in the 21st century. Book Spain s African Colonial Legacies

Download or read book Spain s African Colonial Legacies written by Yolanda Aixelà-Cabré and published by Social, Economic and Political. This book was released on 2022 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The African cities of Bata and Al-Hoceima were created during the Spanish colonial rule of Equatorial Guinea and Morocco. This book constructs their local history to analyse how Spanish colonialism worked, what its legacies were and the imprints it left on their national histories. The work explains the revision of collective memories of the past in the present as a form of decolonisation that seeks to build different foundations for the future in a transnational and glocal framework. The result is an exciting puzzle of individual and collective memories in which Africans contest their colonial cultural heritage and shape their identities at a global level"--

Book Elecciones y cambio de lites en Am rica Latina 2014 y 2015

Download or read book Elecciones y cambio de lites en Am rica Latina 2014 y 2015 written by Manuel ALCÁNTARA SÁEZ and published by Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca. This book was released on 2016-06-15 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

First, it is, to the extent feasible, based on comparable information on the status and trends of major indicators of the state of the environment in Canada,Mexico, and the United States. Second, the report confirms that these three countries together make up an incredibly complex, dynamic, and interconnected ecosystem in which humans play a dominant and decisive role. Third, the report raises important and sometimes disquieting questions concerning the sustainability of some current trends. Finally, the report is a reminder that our economic, social, and physical well-being are utterly dependent on the life-sustaining services provided by nature. This report emphasizes the importance of developing mutually compatible economic, social, and environmental goals and policies across the three-country region.

Book Populist Governance in Brazil

Download or read book Populist Governance in Brazil written by Carina Barbosa Gouvêa and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the field of populisms from a contemporary perspective. The book brings a conceptual, qualitative, culturally sensitive and transformative approach to containing populist governance. The authors set out not only examine and compile the most varied conceptual definitions, but also present a theoretical definition in which they recognize a myriad of variable properties of populisms which are strategies commonly used in specific political contexts. Furthermore, with its own methodology, the book shows the use of a working method whose analysis was designed to apply the definition of populism applicable in any national context and answer the following hypothesis: the political and normative actions undertaken in the political system could be characterized as a populist movement in its formal and/or informal aspects, directly or indirectly? In this perspective, variable properties are attributes that allow to establish a traceable relationship through a set of specific indicators for its operationalization and empirical tests. The book also applies the definition of populisms in the political and normative actions undertaken by Jair Messias Bolsonaro in Brazil, presenting an extensive repertoire of mechanisms which understanding could contribute to contain populism, with the proper adaptations to the characteristics of each context. Reading Populisms will certainly contribute to the readers having more conceptual tools to analyze this global phenomenon that threatens the building of democratic constitutionalism as well as to understand how the growth of populism is associated with the weaknesses of liberal democracy.
