The paper describes the policies and procedures that should be in place to protect CSP members who work alone, and discusses the relative values and drawbacks of certain approaches to situations of risk. This paper defines working alone as any work which is undertaken in isolation from another member of staff. The term includes those who might work only for a short period of time each day on their own (such as treating a patient in a remote ward, for example) and those who work whole shifts unaccompanied on a regular basis.
