Le milieu nordique pose un certain nombre de barrières au déploiement des énergies vertes, d'où la nécessité de connaitre les phénomènes atmosphériques propres au site d'exploitation afin d'assurer une meilleure rentabilité du projet. Il a fallu explorer différentes sources d'énergie verte disponibles en région nordique et voir à quel niveau le taux de pénétration en puissance permettrait la viabilité du projet. Dans ce projet, nous nous sommes intéressés en particulier à l'énergie éolienne et au solaire photovoltaïque, la première ayant obtenu un très bon taux de pénétration en puissance car ces régions nordiques possèdent un potentiel éolien exploitable. La seconde possède certaines qualités pour le fonctionnement en climat froid quoique les hivers longs et sombres restreignent le potentiel solaire.
