Book Spectral Theory of Approximation Methods for Convolution Equations

Download or read book Spectral Theory of Approximation Methods for Convolution Equations written by Roland Hagen and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the present book is to propose a new algebraic approach to the study of norm stability of operator sequences which arise, for example, via discretization of singular integral equations on composed curves. A wide variety of discretization methods, including quadrature rules and spline or wavelet approximations, is covered and studied from a unique point of view. The approach takes advantage of the fruitful interplay between approximation theory, concrete operator theory, and local Banach algebra techniques. The book is addressed to a wide audience, in particular to mathematicians working in operator theory and Banach algebras as well as to applied mathematicians and engineers interested in theoretical foundations of various methods in general use, particularly splines and wavelets. The exposition contains numerous examples and exercises. Students will find a large number of suggestions for their own investigations.

Book Numerical Analysis of Partial Differential Equations Using Maple and MATLAB

Download or read book Numerical Analysis of Partial Differential Equations Using Maple and MATLAB written by Martin J. Gander and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an elementary yet comprehensive introduction to the numerical solution of partial differential equations (PDEs). Used to model important phenomena, such as the heating of apartments and the behavior of electromagnetic waves, these equations have applications in engineering and the life sciences, and most can only be solved approximately using computers.? Numerical Analysis of Partial Differential Equations Using Maple and MATLAB provides detailed descriptions of the four major classes of discretization methods for PDEs (finite difference method, finite volume method, spectral method, and finite element method) and runnable MATLAB? code for each of the discretization methods and exercises. It also gives self-contained convergence proofs for each method using the tools and techniques required for the general convergence analysis but adapted to the simplest setting to keep the presentation clear and complete. This book is intended for advanced undergraduate and early graduate students in numerical analysis and scientific computing and researchers in related fields. It is appropriate for a course on numerical methods for partial differential equations.

Book Spectral and High Order Methods for Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Spectral and High Order Methods for Partial Differential Equations written by C. Canuto and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1990 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade high order methods for scientific computing have been attracting increasing interest. This trend has been generated by the need for a higher accuracy in the numerical simulation of more and more complex scientific and technological problems; it is backed up by sound mathematical research, and propelled by the availability of faster supercomputers. Spectral methods have now become the methods preferred in the prediction of many highly structured phenomena. The h-p version of the finite element method has proven extremely effective in handling singularities in structural mechanics. Finite differences have been demonstrated capable of blending flexibility and accuracy in applications to non-smooth problems. Although these and other high order methods originated from different, sometimes even opposite philosophies, they exhibit common features, and share a large part of the methodologies for their mathematical investigation and their algorithmic implementation. The technical content of the 14 invited and 30 general papers presented in this volume reflect the high standard of current research being achieved in this field.

Book Dynamic Multilevel Methods and the Numerical Simulation of Turbulence

Download or read book Dynamic Multilevel Methods and the Numerical Simulation of Turbulence written by Thierry Dubois and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-01-13 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the implementation of multilevel methods in a dynamical context, with application to the numerical simulation of turbulent flows. The general ideas for the algorithms presented stem from dynamical systems theory and are based on the decomposition of the unknown function into two or more arrays corresponding to different scales in the Fourier space. This timely monograph should appeal to graduate students and researchers alike, providing a background for applied mathematicians as well as engineers.

Book Advances in Nonlinear Speech Processing

Download or read book Advances in Nonlinear Speech Processing written by Jordi Sole-Casals and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-03-10 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of NOLISP 2009, an ISCA Tutorial and Workshop on Non-Linear Speech Processing held at the University of Vic (- talonia, Spain) during June 25-27, 2009. NOLISP2009wasprecededbythreeeditionsofthisbiannualeventheld2003 in Le Croisic (France), 2005 in Barcelona, and 2007 in Paris. The main idea of NOLISP workshops is to present and discuss new ideas, techniques and results related to alternative approaches in speech processing that may depart from the mainstream. In order to work at the front-end of the subject area, the following domains of interest have been de?ned for NOLISP 2009: 1. Non-linear approximation and estimation 2. Non-linear oscillators and predictors 3. Higher-order statistics 4. Independent component analysis 5. Nearest neighbors 6. Neural networks 7. Decision trees 8. Non-parametric models 9. Dynamics for non-linear systems 10. Fractal methods 11. Chaos modeling 12. Non-linear di?erential equations The initiative to organize NOLISP 2009 at the University of Vic (UVic) came from the UVic Research Group on Signal Processing and was supported by the Hardware-Software Research Group. We would like to acknowledge the ?nancial support obtained from the M- istry of Science and Innovation of Spain (MICINN), University of Vic, ISCA, and EURASIP. All contributions to this volume are original. They were subject to a doub- blind refereeing procedure before their acceptance for the workshop and were revised after being presented at NOLISP 2009.

Book Structural Health Monitoring

Download or read book Structural Health Monitoring written by Charles R. Farrar and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-11-19 with total page 735 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by global leaders and pioneers in the field, this book is a must-have read for researchers, practicing engineers and university faculty working in SHM. Structural Health Monitoring: A Machine Learning Perspective is the first comprehensive book on the general problem of structural health monitoring. The authors, renowned experts in the field, consider structural health monitoring in a new manner by casting the problem in the context of a machine learning/statistical pattern recognition paradigm, first explaining the paradigm in general terms then explaining the process in detail with further insight provided via numerical and experimental studies of laboratory test specimens and in-situ structures. This paradigm provides a comprehensive framework for developing SHM solutions. Structural Health Monitoring: A Machine Learning Perspective makes extensive use of the authors’ detailed surveys of the technical literature, the experience they have gained from teaching numerous courses on this subject, and the results of performing numerous analytical and experimental structural health monitoring studies. Considers structural health monitoring in a new manner by casting the problem in the context of a machine learning/statistical pattern recognition paradigm Emphasises an integrated approach to the development of structural health monitoring solutions by coupling the measurement hardware portion of the problem directly with the data interrogation algorithms Benefits from extensive use of the authors’ detailed surveys of 800 papers in the technical literature and the experience they have gained from teaching numerous short courses on this subject.
