Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unital separable -algebra, is said to be locally AH with no dimension growth if there is an integer satisfying the following: for any and any compact subset there is a unital -subalgebra, of with the form , where is a compact metric space with covering dimension no more than and is a projection, such that The authors prove that the class of unital separable simple -algebras which are locally AH with no dimension growth can be classified up to isomorphism by their Elliott invariant. As a consequence unital separable simple -algebras which are locally AH with no dimension growth are isomorphic to a unital simple AH-algebra with no dimension growth.

Book excerpt: In one exceptional volume, Abstract Algebra covers subject matter typically taught over the course of two or three years and offers a self-contained presentation, detailed definitions, and excellent chapter-matched exercises to smooth the trajectory of learning algebra from zero to one. Field-tested through advance use in the ERASMUS educational project in Europe, this ambitious, comprehensive book includes an original treatment of representation of finite groups that avoids the use of semisimple ring theory and explains sets, maps, posets, lattices, and other essentials of the algebraic language; Peano's axioms and cardinality; groupoids, semigroups, monoids, groups; and normal subgroups.

Book A First Course of Homological Algebra

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed to introduce the student to homological algebra avoiding the elaborate machinery usually associated with the subject.

Book Relative Homological Algebra

Download or read book Relative Homological Algebra written by Edgar E. Enochs and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-10-27 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second revised edition of an introduction to contemporary relative homological algebra. It supplies important material essential to understand topics in algebra, algebraic geometry and algebraic topology. Each section comes with exercises providing practice problems for students as well as additional important results for specialists. In this new edition the authors have added well-known additional material in the first three chapters, and added new material that was not available at the time the original edition was published. In particular, the major changes are the following: Chapter 1: Section 1.2 has been rewritten to clarify basic notions for the beginner, and this has necessitated a new Section 1.3. Chapter 3: The classic work of D. G. Northcott on injective envelopes and inverse polynomials is finally included. This provides additional examples for the reader. Chapter 11: Section 11.9 on Kaplansky classes makes volume one more up to date. The material in this section was not available at the time the first edition was published. The authors also have clarified some text throughout the book and updated the bibliography by adding new references. The book is also suitable for an introductory course in commutative and ordinary homological algebra.

Book excerpt: This is an English translation of the now classic "Algbre Locale - Multiplicits" originally published by Springer as LNM 11. It gives a short account of the main theorems of commutative algebra, with emphasis on modules, homological methods and intersection multiplicities. Many modifications to the original French text have been made for this English edition, making the text easier to read, without changing its intended informal character.

Book Crossed Products of C Algebras Topological Dynamics and Classification

Download or read book Crossed Products of C Algebras Topological Dynamics and Classification written by Thierry Giordano and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-28 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects the notes of the lectures given at an Advanced Course on Dynamical Systems at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM) in Barcelona. The notes consist of four series of lectures. The first one, given by Andrew Toms, presents the basic properties of the Cuntz semigroup and its role in the classification program of simple, nuclear, separable C*-algebras. The second series of lectures, delivered by N. Christopher Phillips, serves as an introduction to group actions on C*-algebras and their crossed products, with emphasis on the simple case and when the crossed products are classifiable. The third one, given by David Kerr, treats various developments related to measure-theoretic and topological aspects of crossed products, focusing on internal and external approximation concepts, both for groups and C*-algebras. Finally, the last series of lectures, delivered by Thierry Giordano, is devoted to the theory of topological orbit equivalence, with particular attention to the classification of minimal actions by finitely generated abelian groups on the Cantor set.

Book Homological Questions in Local Algebra

Download or read book Homological Questions in Local Algebra written by Jan R. Strooker and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1990-09-06 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an account of several conjectures arising in commutative algebra from the pioneering work of Serre and Auslander-Buchsbaum. The approach is via Hochster's 'Big Cohen-Macaulay modules', though the complementary view point of Peskine-Szpiro and Roberts, who study the homology of certain complexes, is not neglected. Various refinements of Hochster's construction, obtained in collaboration with Bartijn, are included. A special feature is a long chapter written by Van den Dries which explains how a certain type of result can be 'lifted' from prime characteristic to characteristic zero. Though this is primarily a research monograph, it does provide introductions to most of the topics treated. Non-experts may therefore find it an appealing guide into an active area of algebra.
