Book Teach Like Finland 33 Simple Strategies for Joyful Classrooms

Download or read book Teach Like Finland 33 Simple Strategies for Joyful Classrooms written by Timothy D. Walker and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2017-04-18 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best-selling book of easy-to-implement classroom lessons from the world’s premier educational system—now available in paperback. Finland shocked the world when its fifteen-year-olds scored highest on the first Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), a set of tests evaluating critical-thinking skills in math, science, and reading. That was in 2001; even today, this tiny Nordic nation continues to amaze. How does Finnish education—with short school days, light homework loads, and little standardized testing—produce students who match the PISA scores of other nations with more traditional “work ethic” standards? When Timothy Walker started teaching fifth graders at a Helsinki public school, he began a search for the secrets behind the successes of Finland’s education system. Highlighting specific strategies that support joyful K–12 classrooms and can be integrated with U.S. educational standards, this book, available in paperback for the first time, gathers what he learned and shows how any teacher can implement many of Finland's best practices. A new foreword by the author addresses the urgent questions of teaching, and living, in these pandemic times.

Book Primary School Teachers Content Knowledge in Physics and Its Impact on Teaching and Students Achievement

Download or read book Primary School Teachers Content Knowledge in Physics and Its Impact on Teaching and Students Achievement written by Annika Ohle and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2010 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One influencing factor on students' achievement is teachers' professional knowledge. The goal of this dissertation was to assess primary school teachers' content knowledge (CK) of physics, as one domain of professional knowledge, and analyse the impact of CK on the actual teaching and students' learning outcomes in the topic "tates of matter and phase transitions". A test assessing the teachers' CK and a video analysis scheme have been developed to describe the quality of teachers' instruction during the lessons in terms of learning process sequencing and content structure. Multilevel analyses showed a significant positive impact of teachers' CK on students' achievement depending on the way the learning opportunities were sequenced within the lesson, while no significant influence of content structure could be shown.

Book Class Consciousness Construction of Rural Migrant Children in China

Download or read book Class Consciousness Construction of Rural Migrant Children in China written by Jiaxin Chen and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-07-27 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph examines the constructive process of class consciousness among rural migrant children in China and how their perceptions of social reality are shaped by their interactions within family, community, and school contexts. Using evidence from qualitative investigations conducted in two Beijing primary schools, one public school and one private migrant school, the author explores the nexus of social class structure, schooling process, and consciousness construction of rural migrant children, which helps readers to understand rural migrant children’s perceived way out of their social reproduction loop, foresee the future working-class formation in Chinese society, and seek the possibility of fostering a critical consciousness of China’s new workers via education channels. The book will appeal to researchers and students studying migrant children, migrant workers, and education in China. Those who research underprivileged children from the perspective of student agency/student resistance and through a Freirean lens could also be an audience for this book.

Book Narrative Research on Learning

Download or read book Narrative Research on Learning written by Sheila Trahar and published by Symposium Books Ltd. This book was released on 2006-05-15 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines narrative research from a range of different perspectives. It discusses international and comparative experiences of doing narrative research on learning, paying particular attention to the cultural contexts within which the research is conducted. The ways in which narrative research can address some of the methodological and epistemological issues faced in conducting insightful and systematic research across cultures are also included. The book’s approach is essentially an integrated one, exploring narrative as methodology in both theoretical and practical terms. It also emphasises the ethical issues that need to be considered by researchers engaged in this form of enquiry, particularly where cultural and religious contexts have a significant impact on research. The first section of the book considers different perspectives on narrative as methodology, including its value in particular cultural contexts. The second section provides readers with international and comparative perspectives on the practical application of narrative methodology in a wide range of arenas worldwide. This combination of methodological issues with practical examples provides opportunities to examine how narrative as a methodology is applied in a range of ‘real world’ situations. This original and imaginative volume bridges the professional and intellectual cultures and traditions of comparative and international education with those of counselling to show the rich benefits of such cross-fertilisation. It will be of interest to researchers in education and across the social sciences as well as those involved in teaching research methodology and those concerned with the complex ethical issues inherent in cross-cultural research.

This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It gives me immense pleasure to welcome all to explore/publish/ comment in/on our journal, The International Journal of Indian Psychology (IJIP). There are a lot of challenges which the growing psychological face in the realms of basic necessities in life. Psychological thoughts can play a very distinct role in bringing about this change. One of the key objectives of research should be its usability and application. This journal attempts to document and spark a debate on the research focused on psychological research and ideas in context of emerging geographies. The sectors could range from psychological education and improvement, mental health, environmental issues and solution, health care and medicine and psychological related areas. The key focus would however be the emerging sectors and research which discusses application and usability in social or health context. We intended to publish case reports, review articles, with main focus on original research articles. Over objective is to reach all the psychological practitioners, who have knowledge and interest but have no time to record the interesting cases, research activities and new innovative procedures which helps us in updating our knowledge and improving our treatment. Finally, I would like to thank RED’SHINE International Publications, Inc for this keepsake, and my editorial team, technical team, authors and well wishers, who are promoting this journals. With these words, I conclude and promise that the standards policies will be maintained. We hope that the research featured here sets up many new milestones. I look forward to make this endeavour very meaningful.
