Book Resistance to Targeted Therapies in Multiple Myeloma

Download or read book Resistance to Targeted Therapies in Multiple Myeloma written by Silvia CW Ling and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-23 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiple Myeloma remains an incurable malignancy. As the disease progresses, it invariably becomes resistant to treatment and almost all patients develop refractory disease. There are multiple different types of targeted therapies and many of them are used in combination at different stages of disease. Targeted therapies that are approved to be used include Proteasome Inhibitors, Immunomodulatory Drugs and Monoclonal Antibodies. Second and third generations of these drugs are developed to overcome resistance and they have unique mechanism of actions. Targeted therapies that are undergoing clinical trials include CAR-T cells, bi-specific antibodies, vaccines, ubiquitin ligase inhibitors and BCL-2 inhibitors. This book will help to develop an understanding of targeted therapies in Multiple Myeloma. Its goal is to provide a unique review of the mechanism of action and resistance of the many targeted therapies in Multiple Myeloma by leaders of the field. The book will be useful for students in medical science, clinicians, health professionals, scientists, pharmaceutical professionals, drug developers, and policy makers. This book will provide an insightful knowledge of the biology of Multiple Myeloma, the mechanism of action and resistance of targeted therapies, application of biomarkers and genomics and possible strategies in overcoming resistance and future development.

Book New treatment perspectives in autism spectrum disorders

Download or read book New treatment perspectives in autism spectrum disorders written by Roberto Canitano and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2015-04-17 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing novel and more effective treatments that improve quality of life for individuals with autism spectrum disorders is urgently needed. To date a wide range of behavioral interventions have been shown to be safe and effective for improving language and cognition and adaptive behavior in children and adolescents with ASD. However many people with ASD can receive additional benefit from targeted pharmacological interventions. One of the major drawback in setting up therapeutics intervention is the remarkable individual differences found across individuals with ASD. As a matter of fact the medications that are currently available address only symptoms associated with ASD and not the core domains of social and communication dysfunction. The pathogenesis paradigm shift of ASD towards synaptic abnormalities moved the research to pathway to disease that involve multiple systems and that are becoming the forefront of ASD treatment and are pointing toward the development of new targeted treatments. Some new therapeutics have been tested and others are being studied. In this context single gene disorders frequently associated with ASD such as Rett Syndrome, Fragile X and Tuberous Sclerosis have been of significant aid as neurobiology of these disorders is more clear and has a potential to shed light on the altered signaling in ASD. However much research is needed to further understand the basic mechanisms of disease and the relationship to idiopathic ASD. Clinical trials in children are underway with agents directed to core symptoms and to the associated disorders in the search of new therapeutics and progress are expected with possible new option for therapeutics in ASD in the upcoming future. Children and Adolescents with ASD and their families can provide important information about their experience with new treatments and this should be a priority for future research. In addition, research performed on genetic mouse models of ASD will keep on providing useful information on the molecular pathways dysrupted in the disease, thus contributing to identify novel drug targets.

Book Green Buildings and the Law

Download or read book Green Buildings and the Law written by Julie Adshead and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-04-12 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In countries such as the UK, the energy used in constructing, occupying and operating buildings represents approximately fifty percent of greenhouse gas emissions. Pressure to improve the environmental performance of buildings during both construction and occupancy, particularly to reduce carbon emissions from buildings, has become intense. Understandably, legislation and regulation are driving green development and compliance. And this is happening in a wide variety of ways. This review of the law in key jurisdictions for the research community, lawyers, the construction industry and government examines some of the mechanisms in place – from the more traditional building regulation controls to green leases and the law relating to buildings and their natural environment. Members of the CIB TG69 research group on ‘Green Buildings and the Law’ review aspects of the law relating to green development in a range of jurisdictions.

Download or read book COVID 19 in Dermatology written by Hazel H. Oon and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-29 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first cases of an acute respiratory illness were reported, the pathogen SARS-coV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) and its disease, COVID-19 have disrupted the world and changed the course of medical history. Clinics were under lockdown and supplies of critical drugs such as biologics and meladinine were delayed. The prolonged impact of disease has taken its toll on patients, their careers, medical staff, research and medical education. Shortly after the first landmark studies of COVID-19 vaccine trial data were made known, global mass vaccination programs were underway. Vaccine technology has expanded beyond messenger RNA (mRNA) to include non-replicating viral vectors, inactivated virus, and protein subunits. Cutaneous manifestations of vaccine reactions, including non-mRNA and their morphological patterns, indications and contraindications, vaccine global access, equity, allocation of booster doses, emerging COVID variants and subvariants, waning vaccine and treatment efficacy are the issues that begged to be explored. New oral therapies are available for treatment of COVID-19 but they bring with them drug-drug interactions and potential side effects. This book is a compilation of a concerted effort by dermatologists across the globe to join hands against COVID-19. Each chapter has been written by experts in the field, with first-hand experience and synthesized literature to offer the most up-to-date coverage in the fast-paced, changing landscape of COVID-19 in dermatology. COVID-19 in Dermatology is a valuable resource for dermatologists, dermatology residents and medical students, and general practitioners.
