Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lincoln Cemetery was originally opened about 1911 by the Chicago Cemetery Association. This indexing project incorporates the identifying information of the grave markers only in the original section of "Historic" Lincoln Cemetery. In addition to headstone markings, Study Group members were permitted to include in the index, the locations of known ancestors whose graves are not marked by headstones. Grave markers located in the adjacent Oak Hill Cemetery were also included. Prior to the creation of Lincoln, it is in this section of Oak Hill where, prior to 1902, many blacks were buried. This alphabetical listing contains name, date of death, date of birth and cemetery section number for more than 27,000 headstones. Once you have identified an individual, your research must then take you to the cemetery office to obtain specific grave location information. The cemetery office records may also contain names of other family members, as well as insurance and burial information.--P. [4] of cover.

Book excerpt: Springfield's historic Oak Ridge Cemetery is accounted second only to Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., as the most visited cemetery in the United States. The burial place of Abraham Lincoln, Oak Ridge's dramatically landscaped grounds are an important contribution to American landscape architecture. A portrait of Victorian sentimentalizing of death, Oak Ridge provides a sublime backdrop for contemplating life. Unlike grim churchyards and bleak graveyards, rural cemeteries are places of great beauty for the living who continue to use them for walking, riding, and quiet reflection. But Oak Ridge's peacefulness has occasionally been disturbed, as in 1876 when gunfire rang out while secret service agents attempted to catch grave robbers who had broken into the Lincoln Tomb.

Book Cemetery Records of Lincoln Moore Counties Tennessee

Download or read book Cemetery Records of Lincoln Moore Counties Tennessee written by and published by Southern Historical Press, Incorporated. This book was released on 1996 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By: Helen & Timothy Marsh, Pub. 1981, Reprinted 2013, 452 pages, maps, Index, ISBN #0-89308-234-1. Lincoln County was formed from Indian lands in 1809. From the year 1799, with the formation of Williamson County, Tennessee, the most western third of what was to become Lincoln County in 1809, was then a part of Williamson County, and so until 1807 the eastern two thirds of the area was a part of Rutherford County. And from Dec. 3, 1807 until Nov. 14, 1809, Lincoln was the southern half of Bedford County. To the best of the author's knowledge, they have included all known cemeteries in these two counties; however, they realize they might have missed a few because many of the old family cemeteries have disappeared and many time during their searchs thay came across unmarked graves in unnamed cemeteries.
