Book Limnological Studies of Majalgaon Reservoir of Marathwada Maharashtra State

Download or read book Limnological Studies of Majalgaon Reservoir of Marathwada Maharashtra State written by Rajkumar Pawar and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2020-10-14 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2015 in the subject Environmental Sciences, grade: A, , language: English, abstract: This study explains that Majalgaon Reservoir is in rich biodiversity of zooplankton, fishes and need to conservation in the future. The investigation generated some important baseline data on the pollution status Zooplankton and fish community structure of the reservoir. These data would be helpful in planning for future policy decisions on using the reservoir for the better conservation and management of the precious wildlife in the world-famous sanctuary. Analysis and interpretation of the data on diversity of biota and water quality parameters provided the necessary information to assess the impact of local people, researcher, and scientist related activities on the limnology of the reservoir. In any aquatic ecosystem limnological characteristic can affect both fauna and flora. Biodiversity contributes both directly and indirectly to human such as food for good health, security, social relationship, life and freedom for choice etc. In last decade people interfere with ecosystem and over exploitation of natural resources its result that biodiversity decreases. But the losses in biodiversity and change in ecosystem service have adversely affected the well-being. The present study is relevant to limnological study, biodiversity of zooplankton and fishes (species) in Majalgaon Reservoir. Recommendations Made by the author: 1. Conservation and ecofriendly utilization of biotic potential like fishery. 2. Creation of awareness in the mind of people related to the water body about importance and survival of the water body through seminars, field study visiting etc. 3. The Majalgaon reservoir is highly potential and can yield substantial quantity of fish production of advanced scientific fish culture technology is implemented and by avoiding excessive fishing throughout the year. 4. To establish fish breeding center, which will helpful for fish culture and its production it will also helpful to solve the same unemployment. 5. To establish ornithological center. 6. It is also recommended that the Majalgaon water reservoir is not only the source of water for population but it is important source of fishery and it is an important aquatic ecosystem. 7. Hence, the combined intensive effect of hydrobiologists, taxonomists, biotechnologists can be helpful for the survival and effective utilization of precious water body.

Book Reservoir Fisheries of India

Download or read book Reservoir Fisheries of India written by V. V. Sugunan and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 1995 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The existing literature on limnology and fisheries of Indian reservoirs has been reviewed by covering more than 100 reservoirs located in various parts of the country. An assessment of environment-mediated production functions of reservoirs has been attempted. Since the ecosystem processes in reservoirs belonging to different geo-climatic regions exhibit wide variations depending on meteorological, morphometric and hydro-edaphic features of the impoundments, an effort has been made to gauge the influence of these abiotic variables on the production dynamics. Authentic information on water areas under different categories of reservoirs has been collected and interpreted in respect of all the Indian States. An attempt has also been made to resolve the anomalies pertaining to classification and nomenclature to the extent possible. Various fisheries management norms followed in the reservoirs of the country including the selection of species for stocking, stocking rate and introduction of exotic species have been reviewed. Indian reservoirs have been stocked with the Indo-Gangetic carps for many decades and the impact of this stocking has been assessed in terms of fish production and the indigenous faunistic diversity.

Book Ecology of Lakes and Reservoirs

Download or read book Ecology of Lakes and Reservoirs written by Vishwas Balasaheb Sakhare and published by Daya Books. This book was released on 2006 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lakes and reservoirs hold a great promise as a source of freshwater demand of which will grow with passage of time. Unfortunately, these ecosystems are being neglected and destroyed in rural as well as in urban areas. The main problem in their management involves responsible for water holding capacity. Innumerable lakes and reservoirs scattered all over the country need an urgent management plans for their protection, rehabilitation and conservation. By suitable remedial measures these water bodies can provide an ideal recreational site apart from other benefits like fish production, charging of groundwater table, conditioning of the climate etc. To achieve this, there is a need of a clear-cut lake and reservoir protection strategy as an integral component of natural water policy. In the present book on Ecology of Lakes and Reservoirs an attempt has been made to bring out the present status of lakes and reservoirs. It is includes the physical, chemical and biological aspects. The proposed book include 17 research articles of eminent scientists representing different lakes and reservoirs in India. Today environmental education is made compulsory at school and college levels. Even in recent years many graduate and postgraduate courses have ecology as an important subjects. As a result, there is a need for comprehensive book on Ecology of Lakes and Reservoirs . This gap has been filled by the book. The proposed book will be useful for the ecologists, fishery biologists, students, scientists and policy makers as a reference material. It will also reviews the progress made in the field in the past few decades. Book The Freshwater Fishes of the Indian Region

Download or read book The Freshwater Fishes of the Indian Region written by K. C. Jayaram and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an up to date compendium of all information available up to 1997 in respect of the freshwater fish fauna of this region . The classification adopted is generally after Nelson's Fishes of the World (1994), Howes (1991) with inputs from Eschmeyer's Genera of Fishes (1990). For Cyprinine genera the order of an arrangement proposed by Rainborth (1991) has been adhered to. In respect of nemacheilines the arrangement proposed by Banarescu and Nalbant (1995), Kottelat (1990) have been followed. As indicated in the title the Indian region as conceived here includes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mayanmar, Nepal and Sri Lanka within their political boundaries. Afghanistan and other border areas excluded. All primary freshwater fishes are definitely listed and many secondary and peripheral species that visit freshwater are also included. A uniform pattern of citation is adopted. Brief salient features of all the taxa up to orders are given. Descriptive details in respect of families and genera are provided more elaborately. Synonymies include the latest valid name, first reference, type-designations and more important pertinent references to that taxa. All citations have been checked, and cross-checked with the aid of Eschmeyer's work. Species are not described but listed alphabetically with their known range of distribution, but genera are described and arranged according to their known phylogenetic and intergeneric affinities. Keys are provided and simple drawings illustrating characters where needed are given. Synonyms, notes on species, genera, nomenclatural clarifications are given as foot-notes against relevant species marked with an asterisk, but in the foot-note the same serial number alone is cited and not the full species name. Figures depicting a representative of most genera can be seen; for many genera the more common species are illustrated as plate figures. A total of 272 genera with 852 species falling under 71 families and 16 orders are dealt with in this book. A glossary of 218 technical terms with adequate illustrations and a bibliography of 649 references are given. 241 figures and 18 plates are in the book. An addenda made up to date carries brief information of one new genus, 11 new species and one new subspecies.
