Download or read book A Jeweler s Eye View written by J. D. Riley and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2021-03-24 with total page 753 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The saga of Jake Goodson continues in Volume Two of the trilogy, A Jeweler’s Eye View: The Crucible. The spellbinding sequel to Volume One begins with Jake Goodson continuing in his battle to rescue his children from the clutches of the cult known as the Ekkklesia of Yahoeh. When the Aryan sect has its very existence threatened through legal action taken by Emma’s fiancé, Sam Bailey, the megalomaniacal leader, Daniel Hightower, known to his followers as Kerux Invictus, reacts with unforeseen ferocity. The mesmerizing control he exercises over his followers even leads them into committing murder for their leader. Hightower’s psychopathic obsession with protecting his flock from “demonic attacks from the outside” drives him to outmaneuver Jake and Sam with a martial mastery and Machiavellian cunning that is devastating to both Jake and Sam, leaving their world turned upside down. The ferocity of the attacks from the fascist church reawakens something in Sam that he thought he had left behind in Europe at the end of the Second World War. He shares his own wartime experiences with Jake, beginning in Northern Italy in 1944 all the way through to his arrival at Buchenwald Concentration Camp in Germany at the end of the war. The saga continues, drawing the reader into the deeper implications of war and peace, and love and hate.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strewn underneath the photos are eight pieces of torn crumpled paper of a light green color with black marker scribbles in a clear zip bag. "This is really weird", Suray says to herself. She needs to piece up the papers together in order to read the torn scribbles. Those crumpled pieces need to be unraveled and smoothed out by one. The patching up of the pieces is time consuming. She has to get up to her room to find cellophane tape. Eventually the patched up pieces bear these wordings: Meet me near the bridge. If we were really destined to meet. I'll be by the river. Well, well, well....what is that supposed to mean? It feels frustratingly crappy. Where on earth could the bridge be? On top of all that, there are so many rivers in the world. Who wrote this in the first place? It didn't seem like a recognizable handwriting to Suray. Why did the mysterious writer tear the paper into pieces yet keep it in a trunk like a cherished possession. Everything just doesn't make sense. The writer tore the paper to some pieces as if to diminish a secret yet decide not to eliminate it? To whom actually the message on the torn paper is intended? If the writer is her father, it is too late to pursue any possible meet up because he's dead. Perished in the fire by the river of Siam was as told by his uncle Razief, who happens to be her father's twin brother. In silence, she couldn't help feeling and thinking that there is a tiny weeny ounce of possibility that her father is somehow still roaming the Earth.

Book excerpt: Four smart women . . . and their foolish choice. In love with the same man. The wrong man. Women found him so easy to love. Clay Bowen had it all—charisma, good looks, and power in the glamorous world of television. Laura, the delicate dancer, gave up her dazzling career to marry him and have his child. Nina excelled at everything—except capturing her father’s complete attention. Bambi, his ruthless young “assistant,” thought she was using him. And Susan, a brilliant writer, couldn’t bear to think their twenty-year bicoastal romance was too good to be true. In her most riveting novel since The Best of Everything, Rona Jaffe weaves a compelling story of passion and obsession. Moving from the glittering capitals of the world and the epicenter of the TV and movie industries to the darkest depths of the human heart, she holds her readers captive to the very last page. A freak accident intertwines Lacey and Chant's lives, and she eventually becomes his personal assistant. Lacey falls in love with Chant, despite his involvement with gorgeous supermodel, Jillian Hathaway, who is determined to hold onto her man. Soon, common enemies form an unholy alliance in their plot to destroy Lacey. A misunderstanding forces would-be lovers apart, but a reunion in New Orleans finally consummates their relationship, only to find danger lurking in the shadows. Download or read book The Lunisolar Calendar A Sociology of Japanese Time written by Jessica Kennett Cork and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2011-06-25 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study shall explore the social and political significance of the so-called kyureki, the Japanese lunisolar calendar that was abolished by the Meiji government in 1872. This calendar was the principal method of timekeeping in Japan from 604 to 1872, but has received little attention from English speaking scholars. This study argues that the study of the lunisolar calendar is essential to gaining a comprehensive understanding of pre-Meiji society and political history. Chapter 1 uses a detailed analysis of an actual lunisolar calendar coupled with passages from pre-Meiji historical and literary texts to show that the lunisolar calendar reflects the value pre-Meiji society placed on minute seasonal changes, the phases of the moon, and divination controlled by various directional deities. It shall also demonstrate how an understanding of the lunisolar calendar is vital to fully comprehend classical Japanese texts. Chapter 2 explores how calendar reform has been enacted throughout Japanese history to promote the values of new political regimes. Chapter 3 discusses the state of the lunisolar calendar in modern Japan, first analyzing how the calendar survived the Meiji government's attempt to obliterate it and the effect the Meiji calendar reform had on how the lunisolar calendar is understood today. It then discusses how the current revival of interest in the lunisolar calendar reflects the value modern society places on nostalgia for the past, which has arisen as part of the modernization process.
