Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: May we exist like a lotus, / At home in the muddy water. / Thus we bow to life as it is. This verse is an important reminder, says Ezra Bayda, of what the spiritual life is truly about: the willingness to open ourselves to whatever life presents—no matter how messy or complicated. And through that willingness to be open, we can discover wisdom, compassion, and the genuine life we all want. In At Home in the Muddy Water , Bayda applies this simple Zen teaching to a range of everyday concerns—including relationships, trust, sexuality, and money—showing that everything we need to practice is right here before us, and that peace and fulfillment is available to everyone, right here, right now, no matter what their circumstances.

Book excerpt: The secret to happiness is to acknowledge and transform suffering, not to run away from it. Here, Thich Nhat Hanh offers practices and inspiration transforming suffering and finding true joy. Thich Nhat Hanh acknowledges that because suffering can feel so bad, we try to run away from it or cover it up by consuming. We find something to eat or turn on the television. But unless we’re able to face our suffering, we can’t be present and available to life, and happiness will continue to elude us. Nhat Hanh shares how the practices of stopping, mindful breathing, and deep concentration can generate the energy of mindfulness within our daily lives. With that energy, we can embrace pain and calm it down, instantly bringing a measure of freedom and a clearer mind. No Mud, No Lotus introduces ways to be in touch with suffering without being overwhelmed by it. "When we know how to suffer," Nhat Hanh says, "we suffer much, much less." With his signature clarity and sense of joy, Thich Nhat Hanh helps us recognize the wonders inside us and around us that we tend to take for granted and teaches us the art of happiness.

Book A Lotus Flower in Muddy Waters

Download or read book A Lotus Flower in Muddy Waters written by Stuart Perrin and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2014-07-11 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timeless book, "A Lotus Flower in Muddy Waters" by Stuart Perrin, is one of the most important, revelatory, and generously written studies of its kind in contemporary spiritual literature — a twenty-first century guidebook for actualizing one's inner life. It explores the practice of Kundalini Yoga's therapeutic, spiritual and esoteric applications and is as relevant to modern day seekers as Sri Swami Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi was to those who read it in the twentieth-first century.Author and teacher, Stuart Perrin, was born in New York City. As a child, he exhibited unusual spiritual gifts and sought to learn and understand the deepest teachings of eastern and western religions. After years of domestic and international travel in search of a guru, Mr. Perrin returned to his home in New York where he met Rudi (Swami Rudrananda). Thus began his initiation into what would become a lifetime of personal growth that culminated in mastery of Kundalini Yoga and the ability to pass on teachings, techniques and benefits of the spiritual practice he originally learned from Rudi."A Lotus Flower in Muddy Waters" shares with the reader profound and ageless teachings. The following quotes from the book (just a small sample) show the relevance of Mr. Perrin's insights into contemporary life: “Within every person there's a voice that guides him or her to higher levels of consciousness, a voice that speaks from the heart. We have to learn to trust it. It's our teacher;” or, “The less ego we have cluttering up our inner lives, the more room there is for spiritual energy, but people cling to anxiety and neurosis out of familiarity. They'd rather be crazy than be nothing... it takes guts to surrender to the unknown;” or, “It's easy to keep one's heart open when good times are here, but nobility of soul is found in people who keep their hearts open during bad times as well... Can we find love, joy, sweetness, and gratitude in the dark night of the human soul? That's a true test of our connection with God.” Mr. Perrin gives us a clear and practical understanding of how one can live a happy life in a confused and crazy world. A perennial storyteller, he uses uncomplicated language to share his personal experiences on the spiritual path. Do yourself a favor! Read this book!

What if we, like the lotus, could let the trials and tribulations of everyday life slip away and emerge unscathed and whole?Suffering results when we lose sight of our true sense of self and absorb everyday frustrations instead of letting these feelings fall away. Inspired by Buddhist and Vedic psychology, The Lotus Effect will help you rediscover who you are by clarifying what you are not. Through the contemplative ""identity detox"" exercises and meditations in this book, you'll learn to let go of stress, worry, anger, suffering, and need for approval as naturally as the lotus sheds mud from its leaves. Download or read book Black Lotus Rising written by Nashid Fakhrid-Deen and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-08-15 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For thousands of years the Lotus has been the symbol of spiritual purity in both Khemet (Egypt) and India. Similarly, the Lotus can be seen as the perfect example of spiritual growth and development in Western society. It is said that the life cycle of the Lotus plant begins when a Lotus seed finds its way into the sediments at the bottom of some warm little pond. In a like manner, many with the 'Lotus Nature' are found at the 'bottom' of society's social ladder i.e., the outcast, women, and so-called minorities; also those who have experienced the dark side of life. The lotus seed is planted in the bottom of the pond in darkness, veiled by the distractions that live in the murky water. A wonderful thing about the Lotus is that during its development, the plants filter and purify the body of water in which they find themselves; making the water transparent. Such is the same with those of the 'Lotus nature'. As they develop and seek the light of truth, they too filter and purify the body of murky water they find themselves in. One of the most important and fascinating things about the 'Lotus' is that even after growing in murky water it is untouched by the water's impurity. The fact that the 'Lotus' is untouched by the muddy waters in which it grows, points those of the 'Lotus nature 'to the concept of detachment. Not only must we not be attached to outcomes in our work, but we must not be attached to the world even while continuing to live and work in it. We must be in the world but not of the world. We must continue to seek the light of truth. Just as the Lotus flower spreads it fragrance throughout the pond in which it grows, those of the 'Lotus nature' must strive to spread the fragrance of God to all of humanity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The joy of intimacy—with yourself, with others, and with the whole universe. The long-awaited first book from a prominent modern American Zen teacher. For Roshi Pat Enkyo O’Hara, intimacy is what Zen practice is all about: the realization of the essential lack of distinction between self and other that inevitably leads to wisdom and compassionate action. She approaches the practice of intimacy beginning at its most basic level—the intimacy with ourselves that is the essential first step. She then shows how to bring intimacy into our relationships with others, starting with those dearest to us and moving on to those who don’t seem dear at all. She shows how to grow in intimacy so that we include everyone around us, all of society, the whole world and all the beings it contains. Each chapter is accompanied by practices she uses with her students at the Village Zendo for manifesting intimacy in our lives.

Book excerpt: The fourteenth-century Zen master Bassui was recognized as one of the most important Zen teachers of his time. Accessible and eloquent, these teachings cut to the heart of the great matter of Zen, pointing directly to the importance of seeing our own original nature and recognizing it as Buddhahood itself. Bassui is taking familiar concepts in Buddhism and recasting them in an essential Zen light. Though he lived centuries ago in a culture vastly different from our own, Zen Master Bassui speaks with a voice that spans time and space to address our own modern challenges - in our lives and spiritual practice. Like the revered Master Dogen several generations before him, Bassui was dissatisfied with what passed for Zen training, and taught a radically reenergized form of Zen, emphasizing deep and direct penetration into one's own true nature. And also like Dogen, Bassui uses powerful and often poetic language to take familiar Buddhist concepts recast them in a radically non-dual Zen light, making ancient doctrines vividly relevant. This edition of Mud and Water contains several teachings never before translated.

Download or read book What Now written by Yael Shy and published by Parallax Press. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Buddhist teachings and meditation offer a roadmap to help college students and others in early adulthood incorporate mindfulness into their lives as a means of facing the myriad struggles unique to this stage of life. Early adulthood is filled with intense emotions and insecurity. What if you never fall in love? What if you can't find work you’re passionate about? You miss home. You miss close friends. You’re lost in the noise of how you think you should be living and worried about wasting what everyone says should be the best years of your life. What Now? shares mindfulness practices to help twentysomethings learn to identify and accept these feelings and respond—not react—to painful and powerful stimuli without pushing them away or getting lost in them. This is not about fixing oneself or being "better." Readers are encouraged to embrace themselves exactly as they are. You are already completely whole, completely loveable, completely worthy. What Now? shares practices that help us to wake up to this fact. This uniquely tumultuous developmental period is a time when many first live away from home and engage in all kinds of experimentation—with ideas, substances, relationships, and who we think we are and want to be in the world. Yael Shy shares her own story and offers basic meditation guides to beginning a practice. She explores the Buddhist framework for what causes suffering and explores ideas about interconnection and social justice as natural outgrowths of meditation practice.
