Book Light Propagation in Linear Optical Media

Download or read book Light Propagation in Linear Optical Media written by Glen D. Gillen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Light Propagation in Linear Optical Media describes light propagation in linear media by expanding on diffraction theories beyond what is available in classic optics books. In one volume, this book combines the treatment of light propagation through various media, interfaces, and apertures using scalar and vector diffraction theories. After covering the fundamentals of light and physical optics, the authors discuss light traveling within an anisotropic crystal and present mathematical models for light propagation across planar boundaries between different media. They describe the propagation of Gaussian beams and discuss various diffraction models for the propagation of light. They also explore methods for spatially confining (trapping) cold atoms within localized light-intensity patterns. This book can be used as a technical reference by professional scientists and engineers interested in light propagation and as a supplemental text for upper-level undergraduate or graduate courses in optics.

Book Light Propagation in Periodic Media

Download or read book Light Propagation in Periodic Media written by Michel Neviere and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on more than 30 years of research on differential theories of gratings, this book describes developments in differential theory for applications in spectroscopy, acoustics, X-ray instrumentation, optical communication, information processing, photolithography, high-power lasers, high-precision engineering, and astronomy. Introducing the Fast Fourier Factorization approach to improve the convergence of a truncated series, the book examines multilayers, stacked gratings, crossed gratings, photonic crystals, and isotropic and anisotropic materials; techniques and examples in grating design; and Maxwell equations in a truncated Fourier space.

Book Propagation of Short Duration Light Pulses in Turbid Medium

Download or read book Propagation of Short Duration Light Pulses in Turbid Medium written by A. M. Belyantsev and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical investigation is made of time-dependent distortions of a pulse light signal transmitted by a narrow beam through an infinite turbid medium. The analysis proceeds from nonstationary transfer equations and considers single- and double-scattering approximations under conditions of a spherical-isotropic indicatrix. The distortion of the pulse shape at the receiving end and the pulse shape as back-scattered from the thickness of the medium are determined. The effect of the aperture radius of the receiving pupil on the cross-sectional distribution of light intensity and the effect of the distance of the distance of the source are considered, and the relationships are presented in the form of graphs. A criterion is established for taking into account multiple scattering in the estimation of backscattering. (Author).

Book Principles Of Diffuse Light Propagation Light Propagation In Tissues With Applications In Biology And Medicine

Download or read book Principles Of Diffuse Light Propagation Light Propagation In Tissues With Applications In Biology And Medicine written by Jorge Ripoll Lorenzo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012-03-23 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main idea behind this book is to present a rigorous derivation of the equations that govern light propagation in highly scattering media, with an emphasis on their applications in imaging in biology and medicine. The equations and formulas for diffuse light propagation are derived from the very beginning, and all the necessary analytical expressions needed to complete a complex imaging or characterization problem are presented step by step. This book provides postgraduate and PhD students with the basic framework and sufficient knowledge in light transport and the related mathematical methods to solve most complex problems that may appear in biomedical applications involving multiple scattered light. All results presented are formal analytical derivations from the complete problem, presenting, in those cases which are relevant, approximations to these expressions.

Book Light Propagation Through Biological Tissue and Other Diffusive Media

Download or read book Light Propagation Through Biological Tissue and Other Diffusive Media written by Fabrizio Martelli and published by Society of Photo Optical. This book was released on 2010 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book includes a CD-ROM. This book provides foundational information on modeling light propagation through diffusive media, with special emphasis on biological tissue. A summary of the theoretical background on light propagation through diffusive media is provided with the aid of easy-to-use software designed to calculate the solutions of the diffusion equation. The book also provides: The basic theory of photon transport with the analytical solutions of the diffusion equation for several geometries Detailed coverage of the radiative transfer equation and the diffusion equation The theories and the formulae based on the diffusion equation that have been widely used for biomedical applications The general concepts and the physical quantities necessary to describe light propagation through absorbing and scattering media A description of the software provided on the CD-ROM, along with the accuracy of the presented solutions. Although the theoretical and computational tools provided with this book and CD-ROM have their primary use in the field of biomedical optics, there are many other applications in which they can be used, including agricultural products, forest products, food products, plastic materials, pharmaceutical products, and many others.

Book Oxygen Transport to Tissue XVII

Download or read book Oxygen Transport to Tissue XVII written by Can Ince and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: nd The 22 meeting of the International Society on Oxygen Transport to Tissue (LS. O. T. T. ) of which this volume is the scientific proceedings, was held in Istanbul, Turkey on August 22-26, 1994. It was a historical occasion in that it was almost 200 years to the day that one of the founding fathers of oxygen research, Antoine Lavoisier, on May 8, 1794 found his early demise at the hands of the guillotine. This spirit of history set the tone of the conference and in the opening lecture the contribution that this part of the world has given to the understanding of oxygen transport to tissue was highlighted. In particular, the contribution of Galen of Pergamon (129-200) was discussed who for the first time demon strated that blood flowed through the arteries and whose view on the physiology of the circulation dominated the ancient world for well over a millennium. A forgotten chapter in the history of the circulation of the blood is the contribution made by Ibn al Nafis of Damascus (1210-1280) who for the first time described the importance of the pulmonary circulation by stating that all venous blood entering the right ventricle ofthe heart passes to the left ventricle, not through pores in the septum of the heart as had been postulated by Galen, but through the circulation of the lungs.
