Book Light induced Electron Transfer Between Chlorophyll and Hydroquinone and the Effect of Oxygen and Beta Carotene

Download or read book Light induced Electron Transfer Between Chlorophyll and Hydroquinone and the Effect of Oxygen and Beta Carotene written by Eiji Fujimori and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Light-induced electron spin resonance (ESR) absorption is not observed in degassed benzene solutions of chlorophyll a with hydroquinone. In the presence of methanol, however, the characteristic hyperfine pattern of p-benzosemiquinone ion radical is formed. This photoreduction of chlorophyll by hydroquinone is enhanced apparently by a small amount of triethylamine and inhibited by beta-carotene.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every four years the photobio1ogists of the world get together in an International Congress. They discuss and learn not only re search details and findings in their own, often narrow, fields but educate one another broadly in the many biological systems that interact with light. It is this latter purpose that is exemplified by these proceedings - the Symposium papers and Workshop summaries of the VIIth International Congress on Photobiology held in Rome, August 29 - September 3, 1976. Photobiology is one of the few true interdisciplinary fields. It has an air of excitement about it. A glance at the table of contents indicates clearly that photobiology and its practitioners (individuals whose primary interests are in medicine, plant sci ences, animal sciences, molecular properties, and energy conversion) interact with the entire and diverse world of living creatures. We supply not only the basic research background to help evaluate many present-day environmental problems but are also evaluating and pointing the way toward solutions to a number of these problems.

Book Photosynthesis Bibliography volume 1 1966 1970

Download or read book Photosynthesis Bibliography volume 1 1966 1970 written by Zdenek Sesták and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is generally accepted that photosynthesis, whereby solar is transformed into geobiochemical energy, is one of the most important processes in the bio sphere. When we realize that the human population, most of which is starving, wi I I double in 20-30 years, and that photosynthesis is in practice the only source (direct or indirect) of food not only for men, but for al I I iving beings, its im portance becomes even plainer. This fact was recognized from the outset of the International Biological Programme, when photosynthesis was selected as one of the principal problems to be concentrated on. The significance of the IBP in initiating a broader-based ap proach and worldwide collaboration need not be emphasized here; it is merely ne cessary to consider the rapid increase in the number of papers on photosynthesis since its inception. It is of fundamental importance for scientists working on photosynthesis to get information on what has been done in recent years in this discipl ine. Thus as complete as possible a bibl iography is badly needed. The complexity of this pro blem requires also that the progress of ecology, chemistry and physics, as far as they concern photosynthesis, be fol lowed. Such a bib I iography, covering at least the last ten years, wi I I be indispensable for final synthesis of the results of the IBP photosynthetic programme.

Book excerpt: Carotenoids are of great interest due to their essential biological functions in both plants and animals. However, the properties and functions of carotenoids in natural systems are surprisingly complex. With an emphasis on the chemical aspects of these compounds, Carotenoids: Physical, Chemical, and Biological Functions and Properties presents a b
