Book excerpt: Journey has been defined as an act of traveling from one place to another. It's a natural thing that occurs as we learn, grow, depart and serve. We take a step, perhaps stop. We look around us, we encounter detours. We start again, a little success, a lot of failure. What will it take to move us to "there"? Is "there" even real? We are sure that one thing that we all can agree upon is that this path is not an easy one. Bumps, potholes and curves can oftentimes cause us to pull over, stop and take a breather. However, this is the time when we must stick to the map the most. This is the inner compass that will lead us intrinsically towards our best self. The journey that we all speak of in this book, is one towards nurse entrepreneurship. Yes, we are Nurses, yes, we enjoy patient care and teaching others about health. However, along the journeys described in this anthology, we discovered more. We discovered our how, what and who we are. What we have created in this book was formed to inspire nurses, future nurses and women everywhere to not give up when hard times come. These nurses have endured some hard times, tough situations and unbelievable circumstances. At the end of it all, they endured their journey towards their version of success, meaning and entrepreneurship. This anthology serves to share the triumphs and victories and the fulfillment of achieving a successful arrival towards a destination. We pray that you can get excited about your own journey, use us as your backseat driver, and put the pedal to the metal while you coast along. Take heed, be cautious, but never stop. We look forward to seeing you "there"! Share this book with your favorite nurse, relative or friend and encourage them to continue onward along their JOURNEY.

Book George Eliot s The Lifted Veil

Download or read book George Eliot s The Lifted Veil written by Franco Marucci and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-01-31 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The negative historical judgment given to George Eliot’s ‘The Lifted Veil’ amounts nowadays to a gross critical blunder, and in the last three decades the story has been firmly reinstated in Eliot’s major canon. The premise of the present book is that George Eliot’s oeuvre is a compact macrotext where themes, motifs, patterns and cultural and personal archetypes recur with variations, and that ‘The Lifted Veil’ functions as the linchpin of this oeuvre. A sequential approach to the story is authorized by the use of a mimetic enunciation that simulates a gradual ‘definition’ of events, places, and characters as they have appeared to the narrating ‘I’ in the course of time until the moment of the enunciation. Contextualizing ‘The Lifted Veil’ means placing it within Eliot’s oeuvre and against the background of Victorian mid-century fiction; in a further meaning, seeing it as intersecting various contemporary genres and subgenres, such as that of the European and American ‘literature of the veil’, that of the archetypal icon of the femme fatale, that of Wilkie Collins’s ‘dead secret’ novels. The most significant facet that critical literature on ‘The Lifted Veil’ has tended to overlook is however the encrypting of the experience of a failed religious conversion and the foreshadowing of the search for a spiritual and racial identity of Daniel Deronda, the hero of Eliot’s final novel.

Book Another Way of Seeing

Download or read book Another Way of Seeing written by Louise A. Poresky and published by . This book was released on 2005-06 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Course in Miracles contains a program of study whose completion promises inner peace. Its curriculum is designed to rid us of fear and return us to love. Its three volumes amount to a massive 1200 plus pages of theory and practice. Students of the Course find the Text, the volume in which the Course's philosophy is laid out across a vast and tortuous terrain of theory, particularly difficult to navigate. Another Way of Seeing guides you across that terrain by identifying the basic tenets of the Course. Devoting each chapter to one basic teaching, Another Way of Seeing explains the Course in clear and simple terms. It then does what no other book on the Course has done so far--it illustrates the Course at work. Each chapter concludes with a discussion of a piece of classical literature that shows the principles of the Course put into practice. Dr. Poresky, a literary scholar and professor, brings her appreciation and knowledge of A Course in Miracles together with her conviction that literature teaches us about ourselves and our relationships with others, and by combining the two, she shows you another way of seeing.

Book Lifting the Veil of Mental Illness

Download or read book Lifting the Veil of Mental Illness written by William Bento and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2004 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mental illnesses are too often seen only in abstract terms. In keeping with this, mainstream psychology, which seldom acknowledges the psyche or soul, relies increasingly on pharmaceutical treatment. In his unique approach to anthroposophical psychology (or "psychosophy"), William Bento views imbalances of the human soul in an experiential and human way. Basing his views on the work of Rudolf Steiner, Bento looks not only at the human body, soul, and spirit, but also at the way the whole environment of physical phenomena, life forces, and spirit beings affects us as individuals. Going well beyond our immediate, earthly surroundings, the author considers the cosmic effects of sun, planets and stars, offering a holistic view of the human soul. This book is a valuable and accessible addition to the field of anthroposophical psychology and to the study of Spiritual Science in general.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Self-Disclosure of God offers the most detailed presentation to date in any Western language of the basic teachings of Islam's greatest mystical philosopher and theologian. It represents a major step forward in making available to the Western reading public the enormous riches of Islamic teachings in the fields of cosmology, mystical philosophy, theology, and spirituality. The Self-Disclosure of God continues the author's investigations of the world view of Ibn al-ʿArabī, the greatest theoretician of Sufism and the "seal of the Muhammadan saints." The book is divided into three parts, dealing with the relation between God and the cosmos, the structure of the cosmos, and the nature of the human soul. A long introduction orients the reader and discusses a few of the difficulties faced by Ibn al-ʿArabī's interpreters. Like Chittick's earlier work, The Sufi Path of Knowledge, this book is based primarily on Ibn al-ʿArabī's monumental work, al-Futūḥāt al-Makkīyah "The Meccan Openings." More than one hundred complete chapters and subsections are translated, not to mention shorter passages that help put the longer discussions in context. There are detailed indices of sources, Koranic verses and hadiths. The book's index of technical terminology will be an indispensable reference for all those wishing to delve more deeply into the use of language in Islamic thought in general and Sufism in particular.

Quite unlike the realistic fiction for which Eliot is best known, The Lifted Veil explores themes of extrasensory perception, the essence of physical life, possible life after death, and the power of fate. The novella is a significant part of the Victorian tradition of horror fiction, which includes such other examples as Robert Louis Stevenson's The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886), and Bram Stoker's Dracula (1897).
