Book The Deadline Effect

Download or read book The Deadline Effect written by Christopher Cox and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-07-12 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the tradition of Charles Duhigg’s The Power of Habit, a wise and fascinating book that shows us how “we can make deadlines work for us instead of the other way around” (The Wall Street Journal). Perfectionists and procrastinators alike agree—it’s natural to dread a deadline. Whether you are completing a masterpiece or just checking off an overwhelming to-do list, the ticking clock signals despair. Christopher Cox knows the panic of the looming deadline all too well—as a magazine editor, he has spent years overseeing writers and journalists who couldn’t meet a deadline to save their lives. After putting in a few too many late nights in the newsroom, he became determined to learn the secret of managing deadlines. He set off to observe nine different organizations as they approached a high-pressure deadline. Along the way, Cox made an even greater discovery: these experts didn’t just meet their big deadlines—they became more focused, productive, and creative in the process. An entertaining blend of “behavioral science, psychological theory, and academic studies with compelling storytelling and descriptive case studies” (Financial Times), The Deadline Effect reveals the time-management strategies these teams used to guarantee success while staying on schedule: a restaurant opening for the first time, a ski resort covering an entire mountain in snow, a farm growing enough lilies in time for Easter, and more. Cox explains how to use deadlines to our advantage, the dynamics of teams and customers, and techniques for using deadlines to make better, more effective decisions.

    Book Details:
  • Author : Virginia Woolf
  • Publisher : Good Press
  • Release : 2023-12-16
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 196 pages

Download or read book Mrs Dalloway written by Virginia Woolf and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-12-16 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mrs Dalloway, Virginia Woolf's fourth novel, offers the reader an impression of a single June day in London in 1923. Clarissa Dalloway, the wife of a Conservative member of parliament, is preparing to give an evening party, while the shell-shocked Septimus Warren Smith hears the birds in Regent's Park chattering in Greek. There seems to be nothing, except perhaps London, to link Clarissa and Septimus. She is middle-aged and prosperous, with a sheltered happy life behind her; Smith is young, poor, and driven to hatred of himself and the whole human race. Yet both share a terror of existence, and sense the pull of death. The world of Mrs Dalloway is evoked in Woolf's famous stream of consciousness style, in a lyrical and haunting language which has made this, from its publication in 1925, one of her most popular novels.

Book Soul Agreements

Download or read book Soul Agreements written by Dick Sutphen and published by Hampton Roads Publishing. This book was released on 2005-04-25 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While in spirit, before you were born, you wrote a script for your life on earth that included soul agreements establishing your relationships with your parents, lovers, children, and others who would affect your life in meaningful ways. Your career directions were planned out, as well as the major challenges you would encounter. This karmic road map was programmed at a soul level and can be examined by psychic researchers like Dick and Tara Sutphen. In his best-selling book, You Were Born Again to Be Together, Dick explored the concept of destiny through romantic relationships. In Soul Agreements his investigations expand to a variety of cases: a woman born with a severe disability; a couple who came together to experience tragedy; and others who incarnated to be famous, or influential, or to become healers. Once you understand how soul agreements work, Dick teaches how to make the most of your destiny. The more self-actualized you are, the less likely you will be adversely affected by negative life experiences. This awareness shows you how to best override fate and create your own reality of love and success.

Book Supramolecular Photochemistry

    Book Details:
  • Author : Vincenzo Balzani
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 9400939795
  • Pages : 479 pages

Download or read book Supramolecular Photochemistry written by Vincenzo Balzani and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intellectual and utilitarian opportunities that lie at the frontiers of chemistry have been recently emphasized by the Pimentel Report. Such report recommends that in the field of chemical research priority should be given to "understanding chemical reactivity" and proposes initiatives aimed at the clarification of factors that control the rates of reaction and the development of new synthetic pathways for chemical change. In the broad field of chemical reactivity, a discipline that has grown with an extraordinary rate is photochemistry. Since the knowledge of the photochemical properties at the molecular level has made a substantial progress in the last few years, there is currently a trend to study more and more complex photochemical systems. In particular, an emerging and rapidly expanding branch of photochemistry is that concerning studies of assemblies of molecular components properly combined so as to obtain light-induced functions (supramolecular photochemistry). Although much of the current work in supramolecular photochemistry is fundamental in nature, it is clear that progress in this field will be most rewarding for several applications concerning the interaction of light with matter. In particular, it will allow us to pursue research aimed at the photochemical conversion of solar energy by means of artificial systems and to make progress towards futuristic branches of science called "photonics" (photo-generated electron migration processes on a molecular basis) and "chemionics" (design of components, circuitry, and information treatment at the molecular level).

Book Lifespan Developmental Systems

Download or read book Lifespan Developmental Systems written by Ellen A. Skinner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-09 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everything you always wanted to know about theories, meta-theories, methods, and interventions but didn’t realize you needed to ask. This innovative textbook takes advanced undergraduate and graduate students "behind the curtain" of standard developmental science, so they can begin to appreciate the generative value and methodological challenges of a lifespan developmental systems perspective. It envisions applied developmental science as focused on ways to use knowledge about human development to help solve societal problems in real-life contexts, and considers applied developmental research to be purpose driven, field based, community engaged, and oriented toward efforts to optimize development. Based on the authors’ more than 25 years of teaching, this text is designed to help researchers and their students intentionally create a cooperative learning community, full of arguments, doubts, and insights, that can facilitate their own internal paradigm shifts, one student at a time. With the aid of extensive online supplementary materials, students of developmental psychology as well as students in other psychological subdisciplines (such as industrial-organizational, social, and community psychology) and applied professions that rely on developmental training (such as education, social work, counseling, nursing, health care, and business) will find this to be an invaluable guidebook and toolbox for conceptualizing and studying applied problems from a lifespan developmental systems perspective.
