Book Life Outside The Land of My Birth

Download or read book Life Outside The Land of My Birth written by Gideon M. Mahlangu and published by GIDEON M. MAHLANGU. This book was released on 2022-02-09 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wounds that cannot be seen are the most of severe pain, compared to those of an eye witness, as it is not easy for one to realise that they need medical treatment to cure. This book is based on a true life story of Samson Olayiwola Kolawoles who long-held the belief that there are better and brighter future prospects ahead of him in South Africa, the land that was not of his birth. His believe on his future prospects analysis relied mainly on his commitment, dedication, but above all on the Creator the universe. The genesis of his long-held belief emanates from the principle: A good head and a good heart are at all times of life a powerful and formidable conquering force. The publications narration of a life journey provides human intelligence with an insight that as human beings, through the unavoidable natural process of life, one inadvertently incurs many obligations. The truth is that naturally as human beings irrespective of the land of our birth, we are born in possession of life obligations and as one grows, they accumulate. Hence, it is important for human beings including Africans to have tranquil relations so that no one can say, African parents have committed the biggest debt or sin for giving birth to any African soul. The strong belief in African morals, values, convictions and principles played a great role in the writing of this book. One of the principles is that there are many things that one can do to build and take care of planet earth - of Africa in particular, in this instance. Whether we know it or not, there are human beings on planet earth who have the potential to destroy it. The life journey of the main character motivated the author to feel responsible for doing what is humanly correct and compelling morally, which was to devise a means of contributing in reducing the potential of those who are highly committed to destroying the African motherlandAbove all, the trials, tribulations and triumphs of the main character inspired the author to write this book. The primary aim of the author is to see him-self playing a pivotal role in educating, imparting and sharing knowledge and information amongst African humanity and the entire world as a part of the contribution to saving the other part of planet earth, namely Africa, which is important. The events of the life journey of the main character have undoubtedly proved how the African world could be destroyed to the point where ultimately there would be no tolerance and no support to each other socially, politically or economically as Africans. Certainly, there is and there will be no other relevant time for Africans to ask that to one another when such happens. The underlying question becomes, why should we as Africans always allow ourselves to be viewed by the outside world as the people who are incapable of caring of their rich soil and for themselves? Is this a curse and you believing so, then Africans just accept that you do not belong to Africa but where they belong is nowhere. Africans, your appearance does not occur to yourselves as being individuals from various African countries but it presents a collective African picture. That is why it is imperative to have a good picture about Africa and its people collectively. Realise that as people we are viewed in comparison to the behaviour and appearance of others. Africans, you need to be worthy of trust to one another. If there is no confidence and reliability to one another, then, Africa, you are at risk of collapsing. The end result is that you will become the advocates and champions of the African pessimism and colonial system of special type agenda.

The Land of My Birth followed how Ozurumba and his family pursued their dream of modernity. Acquiring basic education and migrating to the cities gave them the opportunity to channel and hasten civilisation to their rural community. New technologies made available to the rural folks were readily assimilated. Each experience reaffirmed their growing belief that science and technology held a better promise. In the face of worsening unemployment, a growing number of city dwellers did whatever they could to survive or devised the quickest means of amassing wealth. Moneymaking by all means and at all cost became an obsession for those who wanted whatever was in vogue cars, houses, chieftaincy titles, etc. The ever recurrent conflicts in different parts of the country remained a difficult challenge. It led to a civil war in which millions of lives and properties were lost. Memory of the hunger that tortured their people and the gruesome kwashiorkor it afflicted on them continued to traumatise them. Unfortunately, the killings that led to the war continued, making them wonder if the end to their misery was still far from sight.

Book excerpt: Every person has an interesting life story to tell and I do not claim that my story is unique. I write about my experience of living alone with my grandmother on an Irish farm and why it shaped my national identity. My life-changing move to London and the need to become street wise and still make it to university is covered. I describe how my debating exploits at school and university got me an invitation to The House of Lords and how I met my future wife, and entering a grammar school for the very first time as teacher. My passion for comprehensive education, more enlightened science teaching and my role in senior school management all get an airing as well as my camping, political and sporting adventures. Space is given to how we made lifelong friends with some Germans and our many years of skiing in Austria and Norway. The book also covers the period from early retirement in 1999 to my years teaching in some of Englands elite private schools and why girls really do love chocolate. I describe how I coped with a heart bypass in 2012 and got back to marathon running and took up marathon bike riding for charity. I conclude with my take on the human predicament.

Book The Life with God Bible NRSV Old Testament

Download or read book The Life with God Bible NRSV Old Testament written by Renovare and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2010-07-06 with total page 7632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Life with God Bible combines the depth of a study Bible with the warmth of a devotional Bible, offering a new way to discover the full riches of the Scriptures. According to Richard Foster, bestselling author and the project′s editor, the Bible is all about human life "with God." As we read Scripture, we should consider how God is with us in each story and allow ourselves to be spiritually transformed. Many people are looking for a new way to read the Bible, not as a text to be mastered. but as a story to enter into and a lifestyle to pursue. This unique Bible, previously published as The Renovare Spiritual Formation Bible and spearheaded by bestselling authors Richard Foster (Celebration of Discipline) and Dallas Willard (The Divine Conspiracy), introduces the concept of life with God - or the "with-God life" - a model for seeing the whole of Scripture as the unfolding story of God′s plan for our loving relationship with the Creator. This central theme weaves throughout the essays, introductions, notes, and exercises, powerfully revealing how God is present to his people today and throughout history. Yet our relationship with God should not be passive. Concrete practices - Spiritual Disciplines - have been used throughout church history to guide disciples of Jesus. This Bible integrates the Spiritual Disciplines into the Christian life by showing how they are central to the Bible′s teachings and stories. Abraham and Ruth, Moses and Deborah, Jesus and the disciples all provide amazing examples of the life-changing power of prayer, worship, fasting, celebration, and many other Spiritual Disciplines. Scripture thus becomes a primary means for the discovery, instruction, and practice of these disciplines as well as a tool for spiritual formation. Combining the highest possible biblical scholarship with the deepest possible heart devotion, this new Bible project seeks to nourish inner transformation by unlocking and revealing the profound resources within Scripture for changing our hearts and characters and bringing them in line with what God wants for our lives. The Life with God Bible will redefine what the Bible means for Christian discipleship.

Book A Mission from God

Download or read book A Mission from God written by James Meredith and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-08-07 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I am not a civil rights hero. I am a warrior, and I am on a mission from God.” —James Meredith James Meredith engineered two of the most epic events of the American civil rights era: the desegregation of the University of Mississippi in 1962, which helped open the doors of education to all Americans; and the March Against Fear in 1966, which helped open the floodgates of voter registration in the South. Part memoir, part manifesto, A Mission from God is James Meredith’s look back at his courageous and action-packed life and his challenge to America to address the most critical issue of our day: how to educate and uplift the millions of black and white Americans who remain locked in the chains of poverty by improving our public education system. Born on a small farm in Mississippi, Meredith returned home in 1960 after nine years in the U.S. Air Force, with a master plan to shatter the system of state terror and white supremacy in America. He waged a fourteen-month legal campaign to force the state of Mississippi to honor his rights as an American citizen and admit him to the University of Mississippi. He fought the case all the way to the Supreme Court and won. Meredith endured months of death threats, daily verbal abuse, and round-the-clock protection from federal marshals and thousands of troops to became the first black graduate of the University of Mississippi in 1963. In 1966 he was shot by a sniper on the second day of his “Walk Against Fear” to inspire voter registration in Mississippi. Though Meredith never allied with traditional civil rights groups, leaders of civil rights organizations flocked to help him complete the march, one of the last great marches of the civil rights era. Decades later, Meredith says, “Now it is time for our next great mission from God. . . . You and I have a divine responsibility to transform America.”
