Book excerpt: My name is Beatriz Aponte. I was born in South Norwalk, CT (nicknamed Betty Boo). I am the middle child out of five raised by a single mother in a very noisy household. As you can imagine, many things were taken from me and privacy was no exception. My only possessions were my thoughts so I spent most of my early years writing my feelings down. In school, I always loved reading and writing. I was always particularly interested in finding out about the author and would create a story behind the story of the writer's life. During my teenage years and early twenties, a piece of paper and pen at times were my only two real friends when the chaos surrounded me. For many years, my audience consisted only of my inner circle (certain friends and cousins) but there was the pleasure of occasional strangers, whom you'll probably never see again. One of my cousins always advised me to take my writing more seriously, but I am my worse critic. However, I realized that I have a gift to express myself with beautifully selected words, and I could also be inspired by what others shared with me. My poetry is no walk in the park. My poetry is the voice of a soul, who has lived many different lives, pain, loss, heartbreak, etc. My poetry, as well as my books, are all based on true stories. I have been writing my entire life; yet, I gave up on the silent childhood dream of being a well-known and acknowledged writer, my true passion. It wasn't until my loss and hitting rock-bottom when I truly challenged myself as a professional writer. Raw Emotions is only the beginning. More shall be revealed because the more I wrote, the more I healed. I thank God for every set-back, for every obstacle and for every single tear. I am a living example of what one can accomplish with faith and determination. I wholeheartedly thank you for contributing to my dream and listening to my story.

Book Raw Emotions

Download or read book Raw Emotions written by Michael O'Connor and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2018-02-16 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What I have written in this book is a collection of short essays, each pertaining to a specific topic, including many types of love, motorcycles, just life, the dark side, Christmas, and what I will call more of my journey. Included in each of these topics are several short essays that pertain to the abovementioned titles. It is my belief that when writing about an event or a time in your life, there can be an almost equal amount of fiction and truth which can result in an interesting read. I truly enjoyed writing this book and selecting the various topics from hundreds of pieces I have written over the past four decades. My journey through life has been a ride I will never forget. I hope you find a personal meaning in one or more of these pieces that stir up a special time in your life, a smile, or even a sentimental tear. Please feel free to share my words with family and friends. I want to thank you for allowing me and my raw emotions into your life

Book excerpt: Raw Emotions, the book, words are expressed in its truest state. It doesnt dilute the realities as they appear. Instead, it opens up to a rhythm, a beat, that though sad some of the experiences might be, emotion expressed without any form of pretense will help to inspire or motivate one to a higher level of thought. The book covers a spiritual realm, societal, and personal. You will laugh, you will cry, yes, you will be saddened at times but at the end of that verse you will simply learn to appreciate the power of words in context. Raw Emotions is as it is; its title portrays nothing that is sugar coated. The author hopes that the content of this book will open up a conversation, be it with a stranger, a friend, or a relative. This book will have readers laughing at, The Internet crying at The Flowers That Didnt Bloom, wanting to become like; His Name was Job, looking at the mentally challenged in a different way as one reads: They Say Im Mad. Having pity on those we call bosses when we read Sour Power and for women to reach out and demand the respect they deserve and to applaud the men who do give this respect after reading The Antique Man and those who have never had a Flat Bridge experience, desiring to do so. For the precious moments spent in childhood innocence with a friend who you chose to Remember in a most special way. The collection of literary pieces the author hopes will be widely appreciated by all. She hopes that her writing will be a voice to the voiceless.

Book The Angry Therapist

  • Pages : 170 pages

Download or read book The Angry Therapist written by John Kim and published by Parallax Press. This book was released on 2017-04-18 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tackling relationships, career, and family issues, John Kim, LMFT, thinks of himself as a life-styledesigner, not a therapist. His radical new approach, that he sometimes calls “self-help in a shot glass” is easy, real, and to the point. He helps people make changes to their lives so that personal growth happens organically, just by living. Let’s face it, therapy is a luxury. Few of us have the time or money to devote to going to an office every week. With anecdotes illustrating principles in action (in relatable and sometimes irreverent fashion) and stand-alone practices and exercises, Kim gives readers the tools and directions to focus on what's right with them instead of what's wrong. When John Kim was going through the end of a relationship, he began blogging as The Angry Therapist, documenting his personal journey post-divorce. Traditional therapists avoid transparency, but Kim preferred the language of "me too" as opposed to "you should." He blogged about his own shortcomings, revelations, views on relationships, and the world. He spoke a different therapeutic language —open, raw, and at times subversive — and people responded. The Angry Therapist blog, that inspired this book, has been featured in The Atlantic Monthly and on NPR.

Book My War Gone By I Miss It So

Download or read book My War Gone By I Miss It So written by Anthony Loyd and published by September Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-03 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Undoubtedly the most powerful and immediate book to emerge from the Balkan horror of ethnic civil war' Antony Beevor, Daily Telegraph In 1993, Anthony Loyd hitchhiked to the Balkans hoping to become a journalist. Leaving behind him the legends of a distinguished military family, he wanted to see 'a real war' for himself. In Bosnia he found one. The cruelty and chaos of the conflict both appalled and embraced him; the adrenalin lure of the action perhaps the loudest siren call of all. In the midst of the daily life-and-death struggle among Bosnia's Serbs, Croats and Muslims, Loyd was inspired by the extraordinary human fortitude he discovered. But returning home he found the void of peacetime too painful to bear, and so began a longstanding personal battle with drug abuse. This harrowing account shows humanity at its worst and best. It is a breathtaking feat of reportage; an uncompromising look at the terrifyingly seductive power of war. 'As good as reporting gets. I have nowhere read a more vivid account of frontline fear and survival. Forget the strategic overview. All war is local' Martin Bell, The Times

Book The Way She Feels My Life on the Borderline in Pictures and Pieces

This book was released on 2021-06-29 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finalist for the 2022 Lammy Award for Bisexual & the 2022 Heartland Booksellers Award A Book Riot Best Book of the Year “Audaciously human and raw. The Way She Feels is a rainbow during the rain.” —Mara Altman A witty and one-of-a-kind debut graphic memoir detailing and drawing the life of a girl with borderline personality disorder finding her way—and herself—one day at a time. What does it feel like to fall in love too hard and too fast, to hate yourself in equal and opposite measure? To live in such fear of rejection that you drive friends and lovers away? Welcome to my world. I’m Courtney, and I have borderline personality disorder (BPD), along with over four million other people in the United States. Though I’ve shown every classic symptom of the disorder since childhood, I wasn’t properly diagnosed until nearly a decade later, because the prevailing theory is that most people simply “grow out of it.” Not me. In my illustrated memoir, The Way She Feels: My Life on the Borderline in Pictures and Pieces, I share what it’s been like to live and love with this disorder. Not just the hospitalizations, treatments, and residential therapy, but the moments I found comfort in cereal, the color pink, or mini corndogs; the days I couldn’t style my hair because I thought the blow-dryer was going to hurt me; the peace I found when someone I love held me. This is a book about vulnerability, honesty, acceptance, and how to speak openly—not only with doctors, co-patients, friends, family, or partners, but also with ourselves.
