Book Life cycle costing Advantages disadvantages and criticism of this procedure

Download or read book Life cycle costing Advantages disadvantages and criticism of this procedure written by Roberto Niesing and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2008-06-25 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Accounting and Taxes, grade: 2,0, University of Glamorgan, language: English, abstract: Sustainability is developing in as important target for an increasing number of industries and governments. Especially in a faster moving world, which is determined by quarterly period reports, a long term orientation can be a competitive advantage for unlisted companies. In the 1960 ́s the US Department of Defense began to develop a tool to handle increasing costs. They recognized that the purchase price was not the only important criteria. Training or maintaining costs had to be considered for the total cost calculation, too. However, several definitions of Life cycle costing (LCC) exist that tend to be similar: ’monitoring the cost incurred throughout a product’s life cycle’ (Woodward, 1997) or ‘LCC is the sum of all costs incurred during the life cycle of a building, system or product. It includes the costs of the project, development, and acquisition, operation, conservation and maintenance and salvage value if it exists.’ (Goralczyk, and Kulczycka, 2005). In the following essay several functions of life cycle costing will be drawn up. Furthermore, advantages, disadvantages and criticism of this procedure will be analyzed.

Book Systems Life Cycle Costing

Download or read book Systems Life Cycle Costing written by John V. Farr and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-06-20 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although technology and productivity has changed much of engineering, many topics are still taught in very similarly to how they were taught in the 70s. Using a new approach to engineering economics, Systems Life Cycle Costing: Economic Analysis, Estimation, and Management presents the material that a modern engineer must understand to work as a practicing engineer conducting economic analysis. Organized around a product development process that provides a framework for the material, the book presents techniques such as engineering economics and simulation-based costing (SBC), with a focus on total life cycle understanding and perspective and introduces techniques for detailed analysis of modern complex systems. The author includes rules of thumb for estimation grouped with the methods, processes, and tools (MPTs) for conducting a detailed engineering buildup for costing. He presents the estimating costing of complex systems and software and then explores concepts such as design to cost (DTC), cost as an independent variable (CAIV), the role of commercial off-the-shelf technology, cost of quality, and the role of project management in LCC management. No product or services are immune from cost, performance, schedule, quality, risks, and tradeoffs. Yet engineers spend most of their formal education focused on performance and most of their professional careers worrying about resources and schedule. Too often, the design stage becomes about the technical performance without considering the downstream costs that contribute to the tota1 life cycle costs (LCC) of a system. This text presents the methods, processes, and tools needed for the economic analysis, estimation, and management that bring these costs in line with the goals of pleasing the customer and staying within budget.

Book Systems Lifecycle Cost Effectiveness

Download or read book Systems Lifecycle Cost Effectiveness written by Massimo Pica and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional costing models for new systems and new buildings in industry, defence or government, have tended to focus on the costs of acquisition and implementation, with scant regard for the costs of running the system or decommissioning after use. The pressure to minimize expenditure and provide value for money from reduced resources means that complex projects have to encompass a wide range of often conflicting issues and interests. Systems Lifecycle Cost-Effectiveness shows how to manage the difficulties that can arise. Optimizing the system lifecycle cost-effectiveness is complex and influenced by many factors. Massimo Pica presents a variety of models for calculating cost, benefits and risk in projects, and explains how the human factors associated with a system’s design and consequent value are as important as the technical costs associated with its construction or creation. This comprehensive text can be used by students, experienced system engineers, cost analysts and managers to improve their understanding of the wide range of issues involved in the evaluation of system life cycle cost-effectiveness.

Book Whole Life Cycle Costing

Download or read book Whole Life Cycle Costing written by Abdelhalim Boussabaine and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whole life-cycle costing (WLCC) is rapidly becoming the standard method for the long-term cost appraisal of buildings and civil infrastructure projects. With clients now demanding buildings that demonstrate value for money over the long term, WLCC has become an essential tool for those involved in the design, construction, operation and risk analysis of construction projects. Whole-life costing: risk and risk responses offers a thorough grounding in both the theory and practical application of WLCC. Part I deals with the fundamentals, providing the general background to appreciate WLCC concepts and whole life risk management techniques at the key decision-making milestones through a project’s life. Part II covers the design stage, including service life forecasting and environmental life-cycle assessment techniques in WLCC. Practical frameworks both for assessing whole life risks and risk responses, as well as guidance on developing WLCC budget estimates are also developed. In Part III, the authors consider WLCC during the construction and operations stages, with a strong emphasis upon risk analysis methods and dynamic WLCC assessment. With its mixture of established theory, best practice and innovative approaches, this book will help you make more accurate assessments of the long-term cost effectiveness of projects by: providing a thorough grounding in the theory of WLCC demonstrating how decision-making uncertainty can be reduced by basing choices on sound risk management principles identifying a systematic approach to planning the post-occupancy costs.
