In The Great Gap, Merike Blofield seeks to contribute to this understanding by analyzing inequality and politics in the region with the highest socioeconomic inequalities in the world: Latin America. The chapters, written by prominent scholars in their fields, address the socioeconomic context and inequality of opportunities; elite culture, public opinion, and media framing; capital mobility, campaign financing, representation, and gender equality policies; and taxation and social policies. Ferreira, Fernando Filgueira, Liesl Haas, Sallie Hughes, Juan Pablo Luna, James E. Mahon Jr., Juliana Martínez Franzoni, Adriana Cuoco Portugal, Paola Prado, Elisa P. Book excerpt: In October 2004, the Tomlinson report (downloadable at http://www.dfes.gov.uk/14-19/documents/Final%20Report.pdf) set out wide-ranging proposals for changes to the curriculum and examination arrangements for the education of 14 to 19 year olds. In February 2005, the Government published its response in the form of a White Paper (Cm. 6476, ISBN 9780101647625) detailing a 10-year reform programme including the introduction of 14 new awards (originally called vocational Diplomas); thus rejecting the overarching Diploma award recommended in the Tomlinson report. Whilst stating its belief that the proposed changes would have been better structured and more coherent had Tomlinson's proposals been adopted, the Committee's report examines the design, development and implementation of the Government's Diplomas scheme.

Book China s Trade Policy on International Air Transport

Download or read book China s Trade Policy on International Air Transport written by Chrystal Zhang and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-08-09 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a political–economic analysis of China’s transformation to become a global aviation power. It aims to identify the driving forces that have shaped China’s ever-evolving international air transport policy direction and goals in the past four decades and further determines how and to what extent these driving forces have shaped China’s considerations and strategies when executing its policy goals through bilateral air services negotiations. The findings reveal that China’s international air transport policymaking has remained in the domain of the country’s aviation regulator, which has enjoyed an exclusivity to exercise its power on the air transport sector. The book argues that China’s international air transport policy direction is in alignment with the country’s overall strategic mission and its goal is set to support the country’s endeavour to realise the “China dream.” It concludes that factors at all levels interact with each other with a far-reaching impact on the country’s policy direction and goal setting; however, these factors are constrained by time and circumstances. The book is a must-read for a wide array of audiences, including, but not limited to, scholars and industry professionals who have an interest in China’s political economy, policymaking, international trade, government behaviour, corporate political activities, air transport, aviation liberalisation, and bilateral negotiations.

Book International Macroeconomics

Download or read book International Macroeconomics written by Robert C. Feenstra and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2011-03 with total page 984 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combining classic international economics with straight-from-the- headlines immediacy, Feenstra and Taylor’s text seamlessly integrates the subject’s established core content with topic areas and ideas that have emerged from recent empirical studies. A MODERN APPROACH FOR THE 21ST CENTURY International economics texts traditionally place greater emphasis on theory and a strong focus on the advanced countries. Feenstra/Taylor links theory to empirical evidence throughout the book, and incorporates coverage of emerging markets and developing economies (India, China, SE Asia) to reflect the evolving realities of the global economy. The new edition has been extensively revised and updated, especially in light of the ongoing world financial crisis. NOTE: Feenstra/Taylor, International Economics, Second Edition, is available in four versions: International Economics, 2e: 1-4292-3118-1 International Trade, 2e: 1-4292-4104-7 International Macroeconomics, 2e: 1-4292-4103-9 Essentials of International Economics, 2e: 1-4292-7710-5

Book From the Great Wall to the New World Volume 11

Download or read book From the Great Wall to the New World Volume 11 written by Julia C. Strauss and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-05-24 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of China-Latin America relations is usually dominated by policy analysis in political economy, defense strategy and bi-lateral relations. While integrating these topics, this volume differs from earlier works by engaging notions of 'going out' (zou chuqu) and 'arriving in' (desembarco) as metaphors to characterize a wide range of 'new' interactions between China and Latin America: transnational flows of capital and people, adaptation in industrial production and mining, the fluidity of perceptions between China and Latin America, stereotypes and 'othering' of Latin America within China, and changing rhetorical assumptions of the leadership for the China-Latin America relationship. Unusually, this volume has several articles that consider the role of Latin America within China, as well as China's more obvious impact on Latin America. With its primary source material from Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Brazil and China, this volume offers an early contribution to the emerging body of scholarship on China and Latin America.
