However, familiarity with their works varies greatly from one country to another, and resources to assess their historical significance remain insufficient. Il contient notamment les lettres au frère Raymond de Capoue qui devint son père spirituel et qui, après sa mort, fut élu Maître de l'Ordre des Prêcheurs. Pendant les dix-neuf années que dura son gouvernement, il réalisera, avec quelques autres disciples de Catherine, la réforme qu'elle avait appelée de ses voeux. Il fera publier son « Livre », Le Dialogue, et écrira la première biographie de sa dirigée. Mais l'intérêt de cette correspondance avec le frère Raymond réside dans le lien particulier qui les unissait. Dans une étonnante inversion des rôles, Catherine n'hésite pas à réprimander celui qu'elle appelait « mon père et mon fils » et à l'inviter à la vertu et au courage. Cette intimité spirituelle entre les deux religieux produisit quelques-unes des plus belles lettres de Catherine : celle, bouleversante où elle relate la conversion et la mort sereine du jeune condamné à mort Nicolas Toldo ; celle aussi, écrite à Rome peu avant sa mort la dernière au frère Raymond , dans laquelle la sainte lui explique son état de souffrance physique et morale au coeur de l'Église déchirée par le schisme. Les autres lettres de ce recueil ne sont pas moins intéressantes. Elle explique au frère Bartolomeo Dominici envoyé à Asciano près de Sienne comment il doit prêcher et au curé de cette paroisse qu'il doit, comme pasteur, être le premier à se convertir !
