Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We've got a list of questions, issues, stuff we're dealing with. We want your input, your thoughts on this stuff." Such were the origins of this little book. Two young clergy, early in their first call, imagined that I might have some useful wisdom to pass on based on my own years in ministry. Something like this was once standard preparation. Young people learned a profession like law, ministry, or medicine by apprenticing themselves to one seasoned in the practice. Not only has that way of learning largely vanished but we now live in times of increasing segregation and suspicion between different generations. Still, these two millennials bucked the trends. They thought they might have something to learn from an old boomer. The result is this collection of letters: personal, wry, direct, and honest. Full of both hope and realism about the church and ministry. This collection will be a welcome companion for young, and for many not so young, clergy trying to get a handle on ministry in the midst of a time that is full of change and challenge.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Letters to a Young Clergyman My dear Brother, - You are now a minister of Jesus Christ. The vows of God are upon you, with a solemnity then only to become more solemn, when, by His grace, you shall have "used the office of a deacon well," and shall be admitted to a higher order of the ministry. Often, I doubt not, under an almost overwhelming consciousness of the weakness of self, you have asked, "Who is sufficient for these things?" And your strength and comfort have been found in this: "My strength is made perfect in weakness." About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Guiding Youth to Church Membership Suggestions as to Purpose Problems Personnel and Follow Up of Training Classes for Those in Preparation for Memb

Download or read book Guiding Youth to Church Membership Suggestions as to Purpose Problems Personnel and Follow Up of Training Classes for Those in Preparation for Memb written by Charles Melville Wright and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-11 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Guiding Youth to Church Membership: Suggestions as to Purpose, Problems, Personnel and Follow-Up of Training Classes for Those in Preparation for Membership in Full Communion in the Christian Church Experience in conducting Church Membership Train ing Classes suggests that these are most successfully held in most congregations twice a year, one commencing at the end of October or early November leading up to a December Communion, and the other in the spring just prior to the Easter Communion. To cover the material which should have considera tion in such a class, a minimum of six sessions is required. It seems to be better to plan the course so that it may be covered in six weeks - for which period interest may be held successfully - rather than to extend it over a longer time when interest may flag and weariness result. It is most important that the arrangements be timed so that, whenever the classes begin or however long they continue, they should end during the week or on the Sunday justprior to the day on which the Communion Services are held. In some congregations it may be possible to conduct these special classes on a week day, arranging a time convenient to the members. Some very good classes have been conducted on Friday afternoons immediately after school; some others on Monday evenings between 7 and 8 o'clock. If it is possible to secure the attendance of the members of the class for one-half to three-quarters of an hour on Sunday, there are very many obvious advantages that one will find in having the Sunday meeting. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Community Work: Of the Young Men's Christian Association Our rapidly changing and complex civilization has resulted in a multiplicity of organizations. Any progressive religious movement which is striving to meet the needs of boys and young men, and to be a constant and growing factor in the extension of the Kingdom, finds it necessary from time to time to re-define its objectives clearly and to re-state its policy. The rapid development of Young Men's Christian Association work, along with the experience that has come as a result of the various experimentations in the United States and Canada, has made necessary the publishing of this second edition of the Hand-Book on Community Association Work. The material contained in the following pages is the result of many conferences and nine years of study and observation of the underlying principles and methods of organization of the Community Young Men's Christian Association work.
