Book excerpt: MAYBE IT’S TIME YOU LEARNED THE TRUTH ABOUT THE TRUE LOCATION OF WHERE CHRIST WAS CRUCIFIED… Warning! This book will challenge your understanding as to where Jesus Christ was crucified. Known for his detective approach to Bible archaeology, Bob Cornuke sets aside the emotionally held traditions of the past that may have obscured the pathway to truth and opens the door to a whole new way of finding the Biblical site of the crucifixion. By using the compass of solid evidence, Bob charts a course for discovery that will thrill the willing Bible explorer who is on a quest for truth. Don’t let tradition get in the way of truth. A must-read for the serious Bible student. - Ron Matsen, CEO of Koinonia House & Koinonia Institute Where was the world’s most infamous murder committed? Using eyewitness testimony of the gospels and the discovery of some ancient tombs just east of Jerusalem, Bob Cornuke’s Golgotha makes a captivating case that Jesus didn’t die where tradition tells us he did. Uh, oh. Some people steeped in tradition won’t like this. But you will. - Dr. Frank Turek, President of CrossExamined.org

Download or read book Egypts African Empire written by Dr Alice Moore-Harell and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2014-03-01 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a detailed and original study of the creation of the province of Equatoria, located in present-day Southern Sudan. No detailed account has previously been published on the effort to conquer and create a new Egyptian province in the 1870s in the interior of Africa, despite its importance to the history of the on-going northsouth conflict in the Sudan. The annexation of Equatoria emerged from the Khedive (viceroy) Ismail's aspiration for an African empire that would control the source of the White Nile at Lake Victoria. At the time he was under pressure from the British government to suppress the lucrative slave trade in the Turco-Egyptian Sudan, and to this end the new province was to be under direct control of Cairo and not the authorities in Khartoum. The two conquering expeditions of Equatoria were led by Britons, Samuel Baker and Charles Gordon (later Governor-General of the Sudan). With them were other Europeans, Americans, Sudanese and Egyptians. Baker, Gordon and some of the others left detailed accounts of their experience in the region. All of which contribute to our knowledge not only of the difficulties involved in the annexation of a region thousands of kilometres from Cairo, but also geographical data and a record of the complex human relations that developed between the men involved in the expeditions, and the creation of the new province. Official documents from the Egyptian state archive, Dar al-Wathaiq, provide detailed accounts of the politics of the annexation of Equatoria, and these accounts are discussed in their historical context.

Download or read book The British Army 1815 1914 written by Harold E. Raugh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-03-24 with total page 1025 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays examines the evolution of the British Army during the century-long Pax Britannica, from the time Wellington considered its soldiers 'the scum of the earth' to the height of the imperial epoch, when they were highly-respected 'soldiers of the Queen'. The British Army during this period was a microcosm and reflection of the larger British society. As a result, this study of the British Army focuses on its character and composition, its officers and men, efforts to improve its efficiency and effectiveness and its role and performance on active service while an instrument of British Government policy.
Download or read book Florence Nightingale on Mysticism and Eastern Religions written by Gérard Vallée and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mysticism and Eastern Religions, the fourth volume in the Collected Works and the third on Nightingale’s religion, begins with the publication for the first time of Florence Nightingale’s Notes on Devotional Authors of the Middle Ages, translations from and comments on the medieval (and some later) mystics who nourished her own life of faith. Next come her annotations of and comments on the Imitation of Christ, a book to which she turned in times of distress. The largest part of the volume consists of her Letters from Egypt, written 1849-50, a significant period in her own intellectual and spiritual development. Here we provide (for the first time) complete publication and include (also for the first time) material preparatory for the trip and reflections on it over the later years. The last section reports Nightingale’s correspondence and journal notes on Eastern religions, mainly Hinduism. Currently, Volumes 1 to 11 are available in e-book version by subscription or from university and college libraries through the following vendors: Canadian Electronic Library, Ebrary, MyiLibrary, and Netlibrary.
