Download or read book Dear Mom written by Deborah Berger and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2002-01-09 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear Reader: Every woman has stories to tell about her mother. The mother she has, the mother she wants, the mother she misses, the mother she didn't know. We carry our mothers with us. Sometimes we carry her in our hearts, in our heads-or on our backs. Sometimes we are connected to our mothers with the thick, strong cords of intertwined love and true acceptance; other times the bonds are stretched thin and taut, scratching against our consciousness, rubbing raw the sore spots in our souls. But we are always linked to our mothers: both to the dreams of the mothers we wish for and the realities of the mothers we have. Even if our mother has been gone for years-for decades-the relationship is still very much alive. Mom is still with us: offering advice, encouragement, criticism, appreciation, rejection, solace. What we daughters do with this ongoing commentary-whether we unknowingly incorporate it into our reality, or consciously and carefully review it, deciding what to keep and what to put away-is fundamental to how fully we lead our own lives. In Dear Mom: Women's Letters of Love, Loss, and Longing, you meet women who have stripped away pretenses, societal constraints, and basic fears to uncover and express their most private truths about their relationship with their mothers. You get to peer over the shoulders of the women, share in their laughter, and experience their struggles. You see how other women cast light on this most complicated, rewarding, and sometimes frustrating relationship. You witness women at different stages of their lives reflecting on the legacies their mothers (knowingly or unconsciously, but always powerfully) left them. You hear how other women experience the glories and the scars, the hurt and the healing that make up this most primal of connections. You also get to meet the women behind the letters, since each Dear Mom letter is followed by a profile of the contributor. You learn about the surprises, satisfactions, and challenges they faced in writing down their most private truths. The 25 Dear Mom contributors include women from a variety of backgrounds, careers, religions, and lifestyles. They include (present and former) teachers, business owners, homemakers, real estate agents, artists, secretaries, social workers, journalists, and government officials. Some are accomplished professionals, well-known in their fields and public figures in their communities. They are married, single, divorced, widowed. Many, though not all, are mothers themselves. Many contributors are baby boomers, in their 40s and 50s. Others are in their 60s, 70s, and 80s. (The oldest contributor is over 90; her conversation with her mother continues!)

Book Dear Roz

Download or read book Dear Roz written by Richard Leitman and published by . This book was released on 2009-10 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear Roz is a documentation of the author's journey to find the truth about his father, and at the same time, to find pieces of himself which lay hidden in his collective shadows, most notably anger and fear. It records his search for the truth by reading his father's letters and speaking to him through letters of his own; letting his sorrow, fear, joy, anger and a host of other emotions flow freely from him onto paper. Since this is his search for the truth to foster his growth and healing, this was not the place to put on the proverbial rose-colored glasses and present his father, or himself, as more or less than they were. The emotions and thoughts presented in this book, especially about his father, are his and he owns them. He has not attempted to represent how his brother or his sisters feel or reacted to any situation that he discusses. That would be a subject for their own personal explorations. Come along on a journey that evokes the deepest feelings and thoughts a child can fathom, the discovery of a parent through his own words.

Book 39 An Open Letter To My Father

Download or read book 39 An Open Letter To My Father written by Kim Jacobs and published by . This book was released on 2021-06-09 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An autobiographical memoir, honoring both my late Mother as well as my late Nephew, penned as an open letter to my Father. This is my healthy personal perspective of two broken children marrying one another, having two children of their own then trying to navigate the responsibilities of raising a family without the proper tools that are necessary for the most successful outcome. This book is both a cautionary tale as well as a guide to true self love. In order to discover who you are you must re-visit your childhood to unpack your unaddressed trauma. You'll then be able to better understand and forgive your parents for not giving you the tools that they weren't given. You'll learn to have empathy for every single human being on earth. You'll forgive yourself for not knowing what you didn't know. You'll learn to love the true authentic version of you without apology. This is when you will meet your Purpose. You'll also stop asking for Permission. This book was born out of necessity, starting as a simple letter that I decided to write to my Father. It outlines healing, in real time, throughout the tumultuous Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020. I'm extremely proud of this project and the beautifully painful process. I feel that so many other beautiful souls in our World will find this content helpful, as a guide to assist them on their own individual healing journey. It isn't solely about coming to terms with growing up in a single parent household. It's mostly about confronting yourself, your demons, your past then getting to a place of acceptance and forgiveness. Your first priority in this life is to figure out who you are and whose you are. Then, live out the most fulfilling life possible by discovering your gifts and walking in your purpose. This art is needed. It's necessary in the ecosystem and I'm grateful to God for gifting me with the writing skills, the creativity and the honor of perspective. This entire process was extremely healing, I pray that you find it healing for you as well.

Book excerpt: The award-winning New York Times bestseller about the American women who secretly served as codebreakers during World War II--a "prodigiously researched and engrossing" (New York Times) book that "shines a light on a hidden chapter of American history" (Denver Post). Recruited by the U.S. Army and Navy from small towns and elite colleges, more than ten thousand women served as codebreakers during World War II. While their brothers and boyfriends took up arms, these women moved to Washington and learned the meticulous work of code-breaking. Their efforts shortened the war, saved countless lives, and gave them access to careers previously denied to them. A strict vow of secrecy nearly erased their efforts from history; now, through dazzling research and interviews with surviving code girls, bestselling author Liza Mundy brings to life this riveting and vital story of American courage, service, and scientific accomplishment.

I couldn't help laughing. "Do I look that apprehensive?" "Yes, rather." He opened the door for me. "But I have just the cure for you. It's David Rosenau's patented shyness remedy, strawberry shortcake garnished with whipped cream, to be taken at least once weekly in charming company. Doctor's orders." Book I Wish My Father

  • Pages : 106 pages

Download or read book I Wish My Father written by Lesléa Newman and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-02 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "My intention was to 'peek' at I Wish My Father, but I couldn't put it down, and after the last poem, I started again from page one and read to the end. This collection is so moving and plain-spoken, that the careful attention to the ingredients of sound and prosody baked into each line might go unnoticed, which is what we, as poets, hope for. I got to know the author's dad in all his humanity; he is now part of my family. A wonderful companion to I Carry My Mother; in both volumes, Newman captures the moods and personalities beautifully". -Richard Michelson, author of More Money Than God "I Wish My Father is a study of a father-daughter relationship, full of daily expressions of love, loyalty, and devotion that passes between the two. In this book-length verse sequence, a partner to Newman's previous collection I Carry My Mother, the poet bears witness to her father's life, post losing his wife/her mother, and brings forth their shared grief in finely wrought observations of domestic moments that resound with larger meaning. With Newman's trademark clarity of language and her matter-of-fact tone mixed with tenderness, these poems offer moving reflections on facing the vicissitudes of aging, loss, and mortality." -Shara McCallum, author of No Ruined Stone "This collection speaks eloquently to the dictum that if you write fully about one person, you write about all people in their humanity. Lesléa Newman deftly enumerates situations that in their beautifully observed wrinkles and folds give forth the feeling of an aged man's life and his relationship with his daughter, who, in dealing with his crotchets and quibbles, to saying nothing of pure stubbornness, is 'on the edge / of a nervous breakdown.' Droll and sad, these poems possess an abundance of insight, a precious empathy that rises out of the depths of exasperation into the bemused heights of love." -Baron Wormser, author of Unidentified Sighing Objects

Book Letters To My Departed Son

Download or read book Letters To My Departed Son written by Constance Spight and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2022-02-14 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Brandon Spight was born, his parents, Constance and Virgil, believed he was their one-in-a-million child, a gift from God. As they admired his ten fingers and toes, neither could have imagined that there was already a small imperfection deep within his brain that would ultimately force him to make a life-or-death decision while he was still in his teens. Certainly, they had no reason to believe he would leave them just days before his eighteenth birthday. In a heartfelt volume of personal letters to her son, Constance provides a poignant glimpse into his extraordinary life. As her letters lead others through an extremely challenging time that begins with Brandon’s diagnosis at age seventeen and ends with her reflections about her journey through unthinkable grief to eventual acceptance and healing, Constance not only demonstrates the power of unconditional love, but also the power of a young man’s exceptional ability to positively impact others not just in life, but also death. Included are moving remembrances from those who knew and loved him. Dear Brandon: Letters to My Departed Son shares personal letters from a grieving mother to her beloved son as he battles and sadly loses an insurmountable health challenge.

  • Pages : 184 pages

Download or read book Dear Ashley written by Don Blackwell and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Dear Ashley” is unique, in part, because it is not written from the perspective of the sufferer, the treatment professional or the medical or psychological researcher. Instead, it may be the first time a dad has shared his perspective on his daughter’s eating disorder battle in print, let alone done so in such an engaging, intimate and heart-warming manner. The fact that Don Blackwell offers that perspective, openly and honestly, is one of many reasons parents and young adults are likely to be drawn to the book’s life-affirming message of hope.

Book Goldoon and Professor

Download or read book Goldoon and Professor written by Bahman Shahzadi and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A stash of historic letters is the starting point for this intimate view of life in pre-Revolutionary Iran. The authors, Jackie and Bahman Shahzadi, use excerpts of their old letters to peer into the past and examine the relationship that became a 35-year marriage. For young, American-born Jackie, the challenges of adapting to life in Iran were complicated by marrying into Zoroastrianism, a religion forbidding both conversion and interfaith marriage. Their life in Iran spans the political life of the Shah from coronation to overthrow. This conversational narrative chronicles the effects of these outside influences on this bicultural union, including, ultimately, exile from Iran in the midst of the Revolution.
