This book is specifically written for O&G Data Management personnel and Earth Sciences majoring students who will juggle and grapple with seismic data on a routine basis during the course of their career or study. The step by step methodology, though seems orthodox, has been revisited so as to ensure no unnecessary repetition of work. The book will pave the way for O&G Data Management personnel to have a firm grip in handling seismic data entrusted to them, and to deal with the data in a professional way with no "cutting corners". It must be noted that when dealing with seismic data management, the word "novice" is not in the work vocabulary. Throughout this book, O&G Data Management personnel get to understand the basics of the seismic data and their management, and acquire additional skill that can be applied to any sub-surface data management with minimal changes to the workflow Yottabyte — The biggest storage capacity defined by Julian Bunn ET el in the GIOD project

Book The Spinozistic Ethics of Bertrand Russell

Download or read book The Spinozistic Ethics of Bertrand Russell written by Kenneth Blackwell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-11-20 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bertrand Russell's professional philosophical reputation rests mainly on his mathematical logic and theory of knowledge. This study, first published in 1985, however, considers Russell's writings on ethics and metaethics and uncovers the conceptual unity in Russell's normative ethic. It traces that unity to the influence of Spinoza's central ethical concept, the 'intellectual love of God', and then evaluates the ethic which is termed 'impersonal self-enlargement'. This book provides a positive re-evaluation of Russell's status in the major philosophical field of ethics and is welcomed by students of moral philosophy as well as those interested in Bertrand Russell's works.

Book Dirty Love

  • Author : Tim Whitmarsh
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2018-04-02
  • ISBN : 0199876592
  • Pages : 225 pages

Download or read book Dirty Love written by Tim Whitmarsh and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-04-02 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of the world's earliest large-form fictional narratives--what would today be called novels-are found in ancient Greece. Dating back to the first century CE, these narratives contain many of the elements common to the novelistic genre, for instance, the joining, separation, and reunion of two lovers. These ancient works have often been heralded as the ancestors of the modern novel; but what can we say of the origins of the Greek novel itself? This book argues that whereas much of Greek literature was committed to a form of cultural purism, presenting itself as part of a continuous tradition reaching back to the founding fathers within the tradition, the novel reveled in cultural hybridity. The earliest Greek novelistic literature combined Greek and non-Greek traditions. More than this, however, it also often self-consciously explored its own hybridity by focusing on stories of cultural hybridization, or what we would now call "mixed-race" relations. This book is thus not a conventional account of the origins of the Greek novel: it is not an attempt to pinpoint the moment of invention, and to trace its subsequent development in a straight line. Rather, it makes a virtue of the murkiness, or "dirtiness," of the origins of the novel: there is no single point of creation, no pure tradition, only transgression and transformation. The novel thus emerges as an outlier within the Greek literary corpus: a form of literature written in Greek, but not always committing to Greek cultural identity. Dirty Love focuses particularly on the relationship between Persian, Egyptian, Jewish and Greek literature, and explores such texts as Ctesias' Persica, Joseph and Aseneth, the Alexander Romance, and the tale of Ninus and Semiramis. It will appeal not only to those interested in Greek literary history, but also to readers of near eastern and biblical literature.

Book Python for Probability Statistics and Machine Learning

Download or read book Python for Probability Statistics and Machine Learning written by José Unpingco and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-04 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using a novel integration of mathematics and Python codes, this book illustrates the fundamental concepts that link probability, statistics, and machine learning, so that the reader can not only employ statistical and machine learning models using modern Python modules, but also understand their relative strengths and weaknesses. To clearly connect theoretical concepts to practical implementations, the author provides many worked-out examples along with "Programming Tips" that encourage the reader to write quality Python code. The entire text, including all the figures and numerical results, is reproducible using the Python codes provided, thus enabling readers to follow along by experimenting with the same code on their own computers. Modern Python modules like Pandas, Sympy, Scikit-learn, Statsmodels, Scipy, Xarray, Tensorflow, and Keras are used to implement and visualize important machine learning concepts like the bias/variance trade-off, cross-validation, interpretability, and regularization. Many abstract mathematical ideas, such as modes of convergence in probability, are explained and illustrated with concrete numerical examples. This book is suitable for anyone with undergraduate-level experience with probability, statistics, or machine learning and with rudimentary knowledge of Python programming.

Book Quantum Field Theory and the Standard Model

Download or read book Quantum Field Theory and the Standard Model written by Matthew D. Schwartz and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-12-15 with total page 869 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing a comprehensive introduction to quantum field theory, this textbook covers the development of particle physics from its foundations to the discovery of the Higgs boson. Its combination of clear physical explanations, with direct connections to experimental data, and mathematical rigor make the subject accessible to students with a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. Assuming only an undergraduate-level understanding of quantum mechanics, the book steadily develops the Standard Model and state-of-the-art calculation techniques. It includes multiple derivations of many important results, with modern methods such as effective field theory and the renormalization group playing a prominent role. Numerous worked examples and end-of-chapter problems enable students to reproduce classic results and to master quantum field theory as it is used today. Based on a course taught by the author over many years, this book is ideal for an introductory to advanced quantum field theory sequence or for independent study.
