Book excerpt: I've written this book as an account of my 25 years as an addict to multiple substance and behavioral dependencies. It's a story about how I was eventually able to overcome them by applying wisdom's I've discovered concerning the human mind. The subject of Addiction and Recovery really hits home for me, as I've suffered much loss due to my different vices. It's because of that suffering, I desire to hopefully help others not to have to suffer or possibly die, as many do, as the result of their addiction. What I'll show you is a little different and isn't necessarily based upon any traditional recovery programs, at least none I've ever known. What I'll reveal to you has truly worked for me and has changed who I am as husband, a father and as Man! I hope to guide you in discovering how you're able to change who you've become as well.

Download or read book The Contender Vol 14 No 8 written by Rev. Raymond Jackson and published by Faith Assembly Church. This book was released on 1982-11-15 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE HUMANITY AND THE DEITY OF JESUS CHRIST IS A SUBJECT OF SUCH A VAST SCOPE, WE COULD EASILY FILL A HALF DOZEN ISSUES OF THE CONTENDER AND STILL NOT SAY ALL THAT COULD BE SAID ON THE SUBJECT, BUT WE WILL ENDEAVOR TO SAY ENOUGH IN TWO ISSUES TO HELP ALL THOSE WHO LOVE TRUTH, AND DESIRE TO HAVE THEIR REVELATION LINE UP WITH THE SCRIPTURES. FAR TOO MANY WHO ACTUALLY BREAK TIES WITH DENOMINATIONAL CHURCHES, JUST CARRY MOST OF THEIR TRADITIONS RIGHT ON WITH THEM WHEREVER THEY GO. IT IS LIKE SOMEONE SAID, WE HAVE COME OUT OF BABYLON, BUT WE STILL HAVE TO GET BABYLON OUT OF US. BABYLON IN THIS SENSE SPEAKS OF CONFUSION, AND THEREFORE, THE ONLY WAY TO GET RID OF CONFUSION IS TO LEARN THE TRUTH, SO THAT IS WHY WE FEEL LED TO PUBLISH THIS ARTICLE. MAYBE IT WILL GET RID OF SOME BABYLONIAN TRADITIONS THAT GOD’S PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HANGING ON TO. TRUTH OR TRADITION

Book Aristotle s Physics and Its Medieval Varieties

Download or read book Aristotle s Physics and Its Medieval Varieties written by Helen S. Lang and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1992-08-17 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book considers the concepts that lay at the heart of natural philosophy and physics from the time of Aristotle until the fourteenth century. The first part presents Aristotelian ideas and the second part presents the interpretation of these ideas by Philoponus, Albertus Magnus, Thomas Aquinas, John Buridan, and Duns Scotus. Across the eight chapters, the problems and texts from Aristotle that set the stage for European natural philosophy as it was practiced from the thirteenth to the seventeenth centuries are considered first as they appear in Aristotle and then as they are reconsidered in the context of later interests. The study concludes with an anticipation of Newton and the sense in which Aristotle's physics had been transformed.

Book How Big is Big and How Small is Small

Download or read book How Big is Big and How Small is Small written by Timothy Paul Smith and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2013-10-24 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about how big is the universe and how small are quarks, and what are the sizes of dozens of things between these two extremes. It describes the sizes of atoms and planets, quarks and galaxies, cells and sequoias. It is a romp through forty-five orders of magnitude from the smallest sub-nuclear particles we have measured, to the edge of the observed universe. It also looks at time, from the epic age of the cosmos to the fleeting lifetimes of ethereal particles. It is a narrative that trips its way from stellar magnitudes to the clocks on GPS satellites, from the nearly logarithmic scales of a piano keyboard through a system of numbers invented by Archimedes and on to the measurement of the size of an atom. Why do some things happen at certain scales? Why are cells a hundred thousandths of a meter across? Why are stars never smaller than about 100 million meters in diameter? Why are trees limited to about 120 meters in height? Why are planets spherical, but asteroids not? Often the size of an object is determined by something simple but quite unexpected. The size of a cell and a star depend in part on the ratio of surface area to volume. The divide between the size of a spherical planet and an irregular asteroid is the balance point between the gravitational forces and the chemical forces in nature. Most importantly, with a very few basic principles, it all makes sense. The world really is a most reasonable place.
